@@venky193 I actually have a video about how to put braided line on a spinning reel. You should notice an improved sensitivity with braid. True story, I dropped my rod and reel into the gulf from a pontoon boat. 30 minutes later my friend hooked into the line of my rod, the spool was open so we kept pulling up line until we got to the end of the spool. Fortunately I did have it tied, I admit especially with my baitcasters I don’t always tie a knot. Great advice and video!

Okie dokie. On the Auto Bail closure thingy..one could let the line/lure hit the water and not close the bail to stop the line... that could cause undue stress on the line. Plus, so many times fish bite lures and baits on the fall and sudden jerky stops can alert the fish so they won't bite. If we cast to a certain spot, sudden stopping of the line may pull or jerk the bait out of the strike zone. Another reason for hand closing the bail back into place vs. using the crank handle is that the gear action of cranking the bail closed actually can cause premature wearibg down of the gears. Always best to hand close the bail. Thanks for the video!

Call me crazy, but I attach 2 swivels to some fishing line and attach it to a kite. I sail the kite out a couple hundred yards, and then reel it in. I got a good fight out of it when it was far away. The only thing I question is: the stretch and tension of the line before it loses it's strength when winding the reel via kite. It seems to work well with 10+ pound line.

I do it the same way as outdoor dude but I make sure I have a washcloth that's been soaked in hot water and i pinch the line with that. I believe it truly helps with the residual memory of the coils from the spool. Try it once, you'll like it. Learned that trick in Europe.

New to fishing and one of the things I was told to do (I can't tell if it works because I've only been fishing for about 3 weeks) is after you are all spooled up and before you thread the line through the rod, tape the end of the line to the spool so it won't come off, remove the whole spool and put it in a glass of really warm (but not hot) water for about 10 to 15 minutes. It will help form the line to the way it's now spooled on your reel.

Thank you. Helpful. Never considered clockwise vs counterclockwise. Mississippi Gulf Coast ~rad~
@mgraber1
@mgraber1 4 года назад
I think you might be confusing people about the direction for the line to come off. It should ALWAYS come off the spool EXACTLY the same way it goes on. In the video you are doing this, your reel turns counterclockwise and it is coming off the spool counterclockwise, so you are doing it correctly. Now if you were looking at the reel from the front(which you are not because you are behind it) then It would be clockwise which is what I am sure you mean. I use to do this as a job, so spooled many thousands of reels, and several reel manufacturers explain it the same way, to always make sure the line is coming off and going on the same way. Just wanted to clarify in case people were confused. Great videos, keep it up.
@TheOutdoorDude
@TheOutdoorDude 4 года назад
I used to do it any which way and had lots of problems as a kid. I watched a Mike Iaconelli video on how to do this and this is it exactly how he described it. But in the video to clarify any problems people may have I also said that if the line is coming off the filler spool easily without twisting then it's going on correctly. I then said if it starts twisting up on you to stop, flip over the filler spool, and begin reeling again. I made sure to put that in there because the counterclockwise clockwise situation was confusing to me as well. So I put in the instructions as I was taught them , and I put in a foolproof way to know if you're doing it correctly or not. If they watch the full video they should be fine. If they skip around or only watch half, they won't be fine. Audience retention on this video is about 50% so I could see why some people may get confused...they don't finish the video. Thanks for watching!

I have an electric line spooler that allows me to remove the spool and mount it on the spooler and put the line on without any twists. I don't recommend putting the line on a spinning reel without twists because when you cast, you will get a twist for every loop that comes off the reel between the spool and the end of your line. That could be 250-300 twists depending on the spool diameter and the distance of cast. Every time you lift your lure out of the water several twists come out. After a hand-full of casts or your first line break, you end up with the first 100 or so feet off the reel being wound back on with twists. Let that spinning reel be a spinning reel and spool it like you would a baitcaster (letting the filler spool turn instead of off the end). That way when you cast, there are no twists between the spool and the end of the line and it will stay that way (because the twists come out). Just my 2-cents after decades of using spinning reels. Tight lines!

@@jalett1 I have been putting the filler spool in warm water and letting it soak for about 30 minuets or so . Been doing that now for over thirty years now . Weather doing it while it is in warm water or putting a pencil through the hole . The filler spool with a little tension to keep it tight with a warm moist rag or some thing . Sure it will get it`s own memory when it cools down and on the reel spool . Like I stated before never have had a problem of doing it that way . One other way is to put a float on an find a creek that goes for ever with out any curves or bends on it then fill the reel spool that way . Have not found a creek yet that will keep the float in the center . Or put a weight on it and go out in a boat and let the line out on a lake and do it chances are you will snag up doing it this way. Do know how may spools I have redone over the years but the warm water works best for me I`ll keep doing it this way with the warm water till I find some thing that works better

When I was a kid growing up and learning to fish from my father he used to put his whole reel in the lake every now and then, and when I asked him why he said it was taking out the twists in his line and would prevent tangles. I would not recommend doing this with today's reels but I thought I would share

That was great! That knot though, if you were to ever get spooled by something your knot would not hold. Best knot to use would be uni knot. But wrap the spool twice before tying the knot instead of just tying it on

Not all spinning reels reel up in a clockwise direction, Berkley is one. And how much tension should you have on the line when you spool up.

Verrrrrry nice. Maybe make more plain orientation of clockwise, counter clockwise -- looking from the top, e.g. -- and include alternative British english verbiage anticlockwise. The know seems more complicated than needed but I M dum. Slow down at "another overhand knot". If you don't know the term, it's probably not common. It does seem superior to others I've seen. Is there merit to threading through first rod eye, as others suggest? If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. That's the theme of this video. Thanks!

Stupid question. But how to fix line not going down to the bottom on spinning reel. It always goes to top but the bottom down is little bit empty ?

Can't say that I've ever had that problem... I wish I had better information for you. Do you by chance have a reel that comes with washers to shim your real in the event it spools heavily on one side? I've heard shimano's and Daiwas come with washers. I don't have too much experience with those reels... I use Abu Garcia and Lew's, and I've never run into this problem. That's not to say they're better that's just to say I have no idea. Only other thing I can think of is that your bail might be bent and spooling heavily on one side of your Arbor. Wish I could help you more... good luck! And, thank you for watching!!
