I just picked up an imitation today for $373 after tax. I just couldn’t pass it up in such good condition. Perfect bore, minimal rust, and 90% blue.

As an American who loves second world war firearms. Thank you for this video. Thats a $1200 firearm over here and I now have the knowledge to not have the wool pulled over my eyes.

I had a few of these. One was real one was fake. Australian versions though. Fake one was a dead giveaway but it was ok price $200 in the 80s. It was made on a Savage US Property marked stamped for NZ. Bren flash supressor but it was a fun toy at the time. Wasnt pinned flash flew off after 5 shots from memory lol.

A rifle I have coveted for almost 40 years. I came whisper close to acquiring one at Bisley one year... it was new and unissued at the princely sum of two hundred and fifty pounds. I only had 230 and the dealer refused to come down to my offer. I walked away and regret it to this very day.

Gulp ! wonder if that was me ..... I used to stall out at Bisley. I get most of my examples from the US or Canada; I believe in introducing new blood to the collecting and shooting scene. I find that the rifles from the US are usually of a really good standard compared to what has been circulating around the UK for the past god knows how many years. So keep and eye on the web site (www.byswordandmusket.co.uk) you may still full fill your dream...........

What a deactivated one in jolly old England, where children can't own one according to the politicans...I'd friggin move...the politicans are criminals and scared they may be discovered...so, they disarmed the public.

The No. 5 was made in 1944-1947. BSA is slightly more desirable to a collector since they produced about 80k rifles. The story was that this was going to be issued to paras for use on D-Day. The name “Jungle Carbine” was given to the rifle because of the Malayan Emergency where British troops were using them.

Now that's an interesting story, you are the second person that has mentioned the Paras. However, I only extract my knowledge from published sources and in nothing I have ever read has that use been mentioned. I know the commandos had the De-Lyle carbine for use on special opps' but I have never seen any pictorial evidence of Parachutists using them. I was always quite surprised to see Commando armed with No I Mk III's and No 4's as they are quite bulky. I can see the logic. Skennerton in either of the books I have, only purposes them as developed for the confines of Jungle warfare and I know he went right through many early records for his books. Have you any reference to published data for that idea - I would love to see it.

Morena. I've had 2 of theses No 5s . Once when I was too young to apreciate it. Bought cheap & sold cheaper 😮 did a lot of deer hunting ( still do a fair bit) & I found it the coolest gun but heavy and shaped 1st one ( like yours wooden stock ).44 for a BSA .270 still have that rifle barrel worn now. & a few years back a fella asked if I want his . I bought it. 45 front fore end metal . English made re arsenal @ lithgow OZ matching numbers. Bolt action but no hole in bolt this 1? & older egg cocking bolt really been round the bock. Handling marks dents not much paint but bore is 3/4 s mint. Never had much wandering zero problems.. shoot at less or up to 60 meters really. Never had a animal suffer with either gun. Definitely not long ranger tho. I found my friends were clincing when shooting. The talk was always Aw your gonna hutmrt bro...if you just concentrate on the job and hold firm it's a kick but a learned one after time. Really enjoy your videos. Kia Ora Tatou for makeing them matua. Ata Marie From Aotearoa 🌿NZ

I recently got a jungle carbine that was manufactured by BSA, it has all the features mentioned in this video except the hole in the bolt handle 🥲 is that something bad?

Look, for a start you have done a great thing in buying a historic piece. It is important they are kept going and not resigned to a dusty corner in a store room. They all have a story to tell if only they could talk and we all want to know what it was like to use these fantastic old weapons - could we be as good as our predecessors when we shoot them. There are many reasons why that rifle might have a sold bolt handle but, does the number on the reverse of the bolt handle match the action? It is always possible that it was changed in the field just to keep it going because they were not going to worry about everything matching when they need another rifle to fight the enemy with ! It would devalue it in the collectors market but it just depends who's buying - if its just somebody who want to make loud bangs and have fun then they are not going to worry - its still a No 5.

@@byswordmusket9312 thanks for your nice words and explanation. I really admired the rifle and i believe that is a genuine piece. But at the same time i hated the feeling that the solid bolt head left in my heart 😖 anyway, maybe i’ll change it to hollowed bolt down the road Thanks again
