4:00 I've been lifting for a few years and I can only say that there are several situations that would make this perfectly reasonable for someone to do. Lifting with straps has its place in different phases of a fitness journey (hand injury, grip muscle lag, forearm endurance issue, etc.). It looks like a set of 115 lbs bent-over rows. For a lifter who is not very far into their fitness journey, that is more than reasonable as a working set and maybe the line where your grip gives out before the major muscle groups do. Good on this lifter for being so conscious of their form and using a tool to help ensure proper fatigue curves on such an important lift.

iam in that situation atm.. I use straps for 55kg rows. Which should be like 100lb.. My Hands are going to hurt by doing this. They are going to hurt so damn hard, that it actually affects my form, time under tension and my joy.

Same with the reverse bench.. that actually has been a staple in many elite powerlifter conjugate plans, along with jm presses... most of this channel I've seen so far is just scarecely knowledgeable new lifters who are still in the judgey high school mindset.. even though admittedly, the guy in the video doing them wasn't the best example of what and how to do them haha.

Or don't use straps and go until grip failure. This will improve grip strength and be more beneficial to any future lift. Also the way he strapped his left hand is dangerous in my mind. He's getting yanked down if he drops that weight.

Well yeah you should help, but this is not an extreme case where she just cant get up and walk it off, if she was bench pressing and the barbell was on her neck choking her, then sure id help. But in this case the only way I would’ve stopped in the middle of my set is because id be laughing my ass off, because who tf mixes leg extensions with bicep curl...

Hey I mean I get PF is not a great gym but at least if you are there you are trying. It is better than sitting home picking on others. I personally respect people that try. I mean I could bad places like Gold Gym and say it’s full off wanna be bodybuilders who want a trophy every time they lift something heavy, BUT instead Congrats to them for doing that as well. Every gym has their issues but just going go to any gym is more than some people ever do. 🙂

I think it was more about them lifting the weight for him in the first place. Sometimes the hooks don't reallly line up with how your arms are set and at that weight its not the easiest thing to just roll or the safest in order to rack the weight. I hate smith machines

At 2:20 she's trying to do glute bridges using the leg extension machine. It works really well if you can't use a bar but the machine wasn't bolted to the ground

But using straps for isolated exercises like bent over rows do more harm than good, you're probably overloading your back too much if you need to use straps and you're not training your grip strength as much. That's just my opinion based on experience.

@@re_i_gn Some bodybuilders use straps a fuck ton. It lets you get more sets in than if you didn't wear them. You can use them all the time just make sure you also do rack pulls or deadlifts for grip.

I agree, litteraly did nothing wrong in that set, the backwards grip completely focuses your chest as your elbows are tucked in the whole lift, nothing wrong with being spotted whatever the weight

The first clip is actually the reverse grip flat bench, it activates the upper chest 30% better than the incline press. It's actually what I have to do since my tendonitis in my shoulder prevents me from doing the traditional incline bench without extreme pain. His grip was way too narrow though and I'm still waiting on a full rep.

A reverse grip bench press is a GOOD lift. This lift is really beneficial when you have shoulder pain doing bench. Not to mention it will give good gains.

@@colinsmith9208 You're absolutely incorrect!! The second big difference with this weight is your shoulders are almost completely bypassed. Typically, your chest, shoulders, and biceps are used to push the weight up. Due to the pivot in your forearm, your shoulders are almost completely eliminated in the lift. Knowledge is a powerful thing.

To my understanding reverse grip works out the upper chest more than incline does, as well. Shoulder thing is 100% correct. I had messed up my shoulders. I was able to bench with reverse grip fine while normal bench would hurt.

I'd say the guy using the straps for shrugs is making good utility of lifting equipment to optimally overload his traps. He clearly doesn't have the grip strength to hold the weight. I'd say the straps is a good way to navigate around poor grip strength until his grip is sufficiently strong enough to hold the weight. That's my take on it anyway.

@@hazardeur you could be right there. I would assert however, that a diligent person will be pyramiding up, doing his lower sets without straps and the heaviest with straps. Outwith this one should be doing assistance lifts to strengthen grip. I take your point thought, straps can become a crutch, rather than serving as auxiliary equipment when all else fails. I myself prefer chalk for grip.

The first guy was doing reverse bench presses. It’s perfectly normal. It focuses on triceps and upper chest, it’s also easier on the shoulders.

2:17 She was trying to use the Leg Extension machine as the resistance to do some Glute bridges. I don't know why, she could have used the bar at a benching station, or an EZ-curl bar, or done some glute pull-throughs using a rope at the cable machine. Using the leg extension is pretty much the last place you go to.

Using straps on a row or lat pulldown is pretty common. It can help beginners take the grip out of the equation and focus more on activating those back muscles.

First guy just did a supinated grip. Nothing wrong with that. That grip actually is better in some ways. It makes your chest work harder than your anterior delts. It also gives you a better arch of travel when you’re pressing, instead of straight up with the pronated (over hand) grip. The travel starts from your chest and ends over your chin, which also give you a better contraction for your upper chest

You have to literally pull the bar up from your knees to your hips. Basically keep bar close to body as possible to avoid lower back injury.

1st dude is doing reverse grip bench press, activates 30% more upper chest then any other benching variant, just in case you did know. Not sure how effective it is in a Smith machine though because for me to get good contraction I need to bring the bar up In a slight curved angle so you can flex the upper chest but the Smith obviously won't allow any movement but up and down.

idk, some people just move the weights instead of concentrating on the muscle. for example, I could curl a 50lb dumbbell for reps OR I could use a 25lb dumbbell and get a way better pump and more muscle growth.

The last clip, I used to be able to do that. I brought my knees too far back and ended up tearing the cartilage in my lower left ribs in 3 different places. Took about 7 weeks to recover, needless to say I don't do anymore than 4 plates on each side anymore.

Happens to me as well bro I had 2 injuries from leg press deep reps. Leg press is designed for half reps never do full reps with max weights or you will get injury again trust me

The first grip on the bench is actually a way of training more of the upper peck - Jim Stoppani talks about it and the scientific paper it's based on in one of his videos a few years back, so.. (whether it actually works or not I don't know, never use it myself since it seems way to hard on a rotated shoulder for my liking)
