As an ESTJ.. I have come across this quite a bit. I have a few coworkers who "ride the line" and refuse to train for simple important tasks that will make them useful. It is beyond frustrating to me! One time I think I pulled an "unhealthy" move.. or maybe it was just a "truthful" move.. and said to said coworker "you have to learn it for the good of our department!" She just looked at me like a deer in the headlights. I walked away frustrated.. because there is only so much that can be done in a union based company.@@Crystal-oz5zc

INFP here - it took me a long time to appreciate ESTJs and warm up to them. Now I feel a sort of a warm empathy towards them, realizing that there’s a pure goodness to their values, even if their execution can seem ruthless and superficial at first. I think of Dwight from the office as an archetypal ESTJ and I almost cried when he left the company because in his eyes he compromised his principles by covering for Angela. And then a few days in, people realize the office plants were dying, because it was Dwight who had been taking care of them all along without anyone noticing.

I work at Costco in a sales department. At night we have to detail the "non foods" side. I have done this alone for well over five years. More recently I have moved up in seniority and others have taken over the task. Occasionally I have to close but I hear bad things about the closers that took over. I take this to my immediate supervisor and ask that I am not mentioned. I work like a machine getting my work done! Others.. don't! It is a balance of social and work ethic. One night I left an hour earlier than the two other closers. I went to one of them saying "I will do (insert task) before I leave and pull some boxes." Also "oh, I have a flat up in an aisle. Most of the work there is done for you. Sorry I couldn't take it back. At least you have the flat to load more boxes onto!" When walking down the aisle to move towards clocking out.. the two girls are zoning the aisles. I had to keep my mouth shut! So much I could have said to help them do better.. yet I am only a coworker. The two of them .. body language .. and one saying "oh, don't worry about it Michelle.. we got this" in a VERY casual way had me worried! Part of the tone was quite "sweetly condescending" towards me! I have a STRONG work ethic! I don't want to say that they don't.. but they have never quite learned to properly do the job! Only one of the two has a mild level of being receptive to assistance in teaching her some of the "ins and outs" of the cleanup routine. The other one says nothing.. or weirdly smiles.. never harsh.. and walks away and never does it! My immediate supervisor respects me for bringing up concerns. I do wait and give many chances for correction before I call on him privately. See, I almost never see him and he tends to rely on me to report to him. Yeah, I'm about "what time do I leave? how do I plan to maximize getting my work done? What can get done, what can't? If I work only five hours.. I can ask to stay one more hour without penalty to get the work done!" - signed, your friendly neighborhood ESTJ. Unfortunately I don't make friends easily. I never have!

@johnekunode
@johnekunode 9 месяцев назад
Actually statistically speaking INTJs are the most misunderstood for a vast number of reasons. ESTJs maybe known for their work ethic and all but most of the time it's hard to find one who actually is open-minded, and I can tell you as one who has an ESTJ dad(an unhealthy one) I can tell you they tend to have a hard time accepting constructive criticism but they can call out as many ppl which I don't like that double standard as opposed to INTJs who are very open minded(INTJ btw) and they don't need to be domineering to get what they want, they see things in a very abstract way and are very open to new and creative ideas, again ESTJs are already known for their get from point A to point B mentality but in terms of true character morals, between the 2 it would go to INTJs hands down.

As an ESTJ, this was a great video. The ESTJ functions make more sense in urgent situations. When people want to rest and unwind we can be burdensome. I think it's easier to understand us when you realize that we have trouble turning that sense of urgency off. It's too easy for our Te and high Si to constantly foresee potential danger and problems. Even if I want to have fun, or to make sure my family or friends are having fun, it's hard not to do it in a to-the-max way that can be draining for them. I'll go to the party and tell ten lighthearted jokes and everyone is laughing, but in the end my presence can still feel overwhelming to some people. Or someone needs help and before I can check myself I do a bunch of things to help them and then they feel shamed or condescended to by my actions. Even as someone who tries to avoid being the stereotypical overbearing ESTJ, it's hard to get it right sometimes.
@draug7966
@draug7966 3 года назад
That´s interesting, as an infp i struggle to understand estjs but basically you guys find it hard to not be "on" all the time it seems. This sense of urgency you mention, how does that work in a normal situation vs a an actual urgency, like do you sort of gear up even more in an urgency, or is it more like that´s the default mode and urgencys feel like your right element? Maybe it´s a dumb question but as a typical lazy infp i can´t quite understand the nature of that.
@MM-gk1tm
@MM-gk1tm 3 года назад
@@draug7966 Hi, thanks for the great question. The second description you gave is exactly right. When the real urgency comes it feels comfortable, like I'm in my right element. Of course I experience fear, adrenaline, etc., like anyone, but I feel very at home with certain kinds of urgency and often feel like they make me calmer than I was before. The one thing that I really hate is being startled, which to me is just an awful feeling. Perhaps this is because as an ESTJ I feel obsessed with "seeing the problem coming", if that makes sense. I don't think INFPs are lazy, I just think that their activity is in the inner world and thus not visible to other people and often not appreciated. If you think of a Catholic or Buddhist monk or nun in a monastery or convent, I think the INFP is a little bit like that. Some people might feel that what they're doing is a waste of time, but if you believe in the spiritual life, then you think that what they are doing is very important. As an ESTJ I'm very aware of the passage of time, which people measure with external objects in motion: very thinking/sensing. When you're caught up in Fi like INFPs often are, by definition you lose track of time, and thus you seem inefficient and "lazy". But perhaps that time spent in your feelings moved you further along in an important inner journey that you are making.
@draug7966
@draug7966 3 года назад
@@MM-gk1tm Actually i can somewhat relate to that, i often manage to "keep my cool" in situations when others get all worked up and run around like headless chickens so in a way that´s a bit similar. It depends on the situation though. Seeing the problem coming is relatable too in a way, i think that´s why infps often get stuck in "analysis paralysis" cause we like to make sure we don´t screw up, that´s another reason why it looks like we never get anything done. I can kind of admire the strong drive you guys have to get stuff done but at the same time i honestly think you´re a bit too obsessed with it. My stepdad i think is an istp and he is a bit like that too, gets a lot done, but he also knows how to chill when he feel like it. I think estjs would be happier and also easier to get along with if they could just relax a little more and know that it´s ok to not always be on top of everything, that your achievements or your effectiveness don´t define your value, at least not outside of work. But you seem aware and i respect that, i see many estjs in comments who seem to think they´re gods perfect creation and everyone else is too sensitive or too lazy or whatever, your thoughtful comments is a welcome change from that. And you´re right, there is ALWAYS something going on in the infp inner world lol.
@MM-gk1tm
@MM-gk1tm 3 года назад
@@draug7966 Great points. In fact I often feel like I am the one who is too sensitive; I'll notice things that are in some way wrong, but I'm the only one they bother because the people I'm with don't notice them, so if I wasn't so sensitive to it then they wouldn't be a problem. My father and brother were very introverted growing up which helped me to realize early that people experience the world in very different ways. Also, I went to smart kid school and was on more of an achievement track when I was younger, but I was fortunate to see even in high school that the ambition seemed to be bad a corrupting effect on a lot of my ENTJ/ESTJ/ISTJ fellow-students. It really changed my feeling about being too driven. So I think I was fortunate to be rescued from those kinds of habits early.

Hi, love your channel! I had a sudden theory pop in my head and wanted your opinion on it (and everyone else who reads this😊). So its about the perceiving functions Se Ne Si Ni. Something ive noticed is that whenever im taking in information be it from listening to someone or reading a book i always imagine it in my head to process like if someone's telling me a story if i am actively trying to understand i will let it play out in my head as they are saying it, same with books, i am INFP and i was wondering is that is a trait common to high Ne users. My cousin ISFP does not do this and instead of having images pop in her head when processing information she is much more literal about it. She mentioned she always finds it weird in meditation sessions when told to imagine a candle or a scene at the beach, because she just processes the words literally and just repeats the word candle in her mind but she doesnt add an image to it. I don't know if im explaining this comprehensively but yeah she also says when she reads books she just comprehends the words without imagining the scenario, and i thought that might be more of an Se thing. For Ni, people always describe it as unconscious information intake so in this theory it would make sense that Ne is conscious through imagination and Ni understanding occurs without conscious effort. Not sure how Si would be compared to Se, and I also dont know enough people to be able to conclude whether my observations are really due to those functions or single cases, so it would be cool to know what anyone else thinks about this 👍
@punkbunnee9558
@punkbunnee9558 3 года назад
I think being conscious or not might depend on if that function is primary (the one the person leads with, almost on autopilot). It's so great to have people to think of these kinds of things. I'd think that took a lot of energy to relay, as an INFP. So thanks for sharing. Thought you would be ENFP tbh. Side note: just realized this must be what it's like for others to read my responses.

People would think I'm like that, when sometimes (especially as a kid) I just was on my own more than was healthy for me and I'm actually an extrovert who's just shy. ESTJs are more reserved than some other extroverts but still like to interact with people some, also ISTJs are somewhat similar so she might be an ISTJ.

How many of you have had people who've just met you guess that you are a completely different type than you actually are, and is it consistently the same type? I ask because I am definitely INFJ (8 tests over many years) but people constantly guess that I am an ESTJ. I think this may be related to zodiac rising signs, which is what gives people their first impression of you. I think some types may be more likely with certain rising signs. For example, my rising sign is Virgo which meshes perfectly with the ESTJ characteristics and I am very time efficient and always get my "to do" list done.

I don't think others are the same as us really. But as an ESTJ, I totally get why we wouldn't get along all that well with other ESTJs. Same with ENTJs. I think we are more territorial. We want to be in charge. So if someone does the same thing, it's messing with our system.

I thought for long time that i was an INFJ but i'm figuring out that i'm not that intuitive and, probably, the fact that i used to think i was INFJ is because i somehow developed both feeling and intuition in my early teenage years, making that the average in my mind. But, yeah, the thing i've heard is more about "cringing" on others, and the people who make me uneasy the most are ESTJ and ENTJ
@yourslovingly77
@yourslovingly77 3 года назад
Why do ENTJs and INFPs don't go along most of the time?
@heathergrahame9647
@heathergrahame9647 3 года назад
INFPs want others to be happy whereas ENTJs want others to be their best. INFPs are very reticent to be critical of others because they do not want to hurt their feelings, whereas an ENTJ will deliberately be critical of others so as to guide them and spur them on to become better people. If an ENTJ is critical of an INFP, the INFP interprets this as heartless and cruel behaviour. They actually both have an inner core of very strong moral principles and neither will compromise their morals when under pressure. It would be good if they could see and appreciate this in each other. Edit: Actually, I would say that INFPs want others to find peace (rather than happiness). I think INFPs seriously wonder and doubt if happiness is possible.

I think perhaps that looking at the types through the lens of the 4 functions might be the easiest way to sort it out and the most helpful way to understand oneself. It can feel uncertain to fit people into general typing, but in your conundrum Si and Se and Ni and Ne are very different and you might quickly be able to tell which you live by and so have your answer. For example, do you often socialize by telling anecdotes about little funny or interesting things that just happened to you? That's an Si/ESTJ kind of thing and I do it non-stop. Do you really like fictional movies or books with a lot of plotting? That's something people with a higher intuition function often like. My ENTJ friend and INFP friend used to like talking about the plots of movies and novels even though they didn't have too much else in common. Perhaps you could find an ESTJ who knows about Meyers-Briggs and I bet there's a good chance they will be able to tell very quickly whether you are an ENTJ or not. My old friend was an ENTJ and despite our mutual primary Te and ability to understand each other well I could really feel the difference between us in how we approached everything...
