How to spot - identify a FAKE Pokemon Silver (for the Gameboy Classic)

Hello everyone
In this video I will be showing how spot/identify a fake Pokemon Silver. I am doing this video for educational and entertainment purposes.
If unsure please always refer to the manufacturers/retailers instructions on how to properly use and assemble the product. In order to avoid damaging the product.
In case you wonder, below you can find the recording equipment I use:
- Camera: Canon M50
- Lens 1: Canon EF-M 22M
- Lens 2: Canon EF-M 15-45MM
- Mic 1: Takstar SGC-598
- Mic 2: BOYA BY-M1
- Digital recorder: Tascam DR-05X

I bought one some time ago, opened it, and it looks like an original. However, the sticker is not reflective, which makes me think they refurbished it ( the battery has been re-soldered for example ). UK version.

Year ago i got my first gameboy and i straight away wanted pokemon gold, i tought that a purple gba cart with a sticker from pokemon gold was a real copy and a bought it, now i realized that you need to pay around 50$ for pokemon gold, not 5$.

What does it mean if my pokemon silver has the Japanese cover but the rest of the game is in English?

I have a question. I have a Pokémon gold cartridge since i was a kid,it looks legit but the thing is that it have a Pokémon silver label sticker. The software itself is pokemon gold.the shell is golden like pokemon gold. it looks like only the sticker is pokemon silver but i can't tell if it's a factory error or what else.

Hi Lilic, you can share a photo from the sticker and I can share my opinion with you. There are numerous websites online you can upload a photo for free.

Did you check the inside board? If it says nintendo in gold and the board itself looks very well done then it is most probably legit. Most if not all pokemon gameboy repro/fakes I've seen have a board like half the size of the cartridge and look very simple with no golden contacts or anything special. One would only need to get a little screwdriver to unveil that doubt if you don't have one already.

Hey, I want to buy multiple GBA Pokémon games but i need your expertise : is it possible that a fake cartridge has the screw we can find on the authentic ones ? Does the original screw means that it is automatically a real cartridge ? Thanks!

Hey Juan, The position of the screw is one of the indications doesnt mean 100% its real. You might get a pokemon Silver with origial shell case, but the motherchip inside to be fake. I personally ask to check the chip inside first and check the outer case for any inidications that it might be fake. Be careful, as you might buy a Genuine Pokemon Silver due thinking that the position of the screw is real and when you open the case you find someone has replaced the montherchip with a fake one. If you follow the information I share on the video and the ones you are buying confirm that, you should be fine, if not then most likely, you are going to buy a fake one.

The fake version that I got had the complete game but nothing was in English or was just pure gibberish.

Sometimes the roms get messed up and characters will be all over the place.

Hi Boom I dont have access to the games anymore I am afraid, for my understanding you are asking about the factory print 2 digit number on the sticker. If I had to guess it would be either 01 or 02. Again, I personally would not trust that. As that can be faked/replicated as well. ( on the video its looks like 13, I dont think thats the number though 2:49)

I think we have a fake as the screw is in the wrong place. Could this be why the game doesn't automatically save after beating the champion? Is that the sort of glitch??

Hey Jac, the game wont automatically, there is no such feature for that generation of pokemon. You normally go the menu, then press 'save' to save the game at that point in time. Now in relation to the screw position, from all the original copies I have seen its on the same place. Hope the above helps.

Hey Teddy, I have encountered some random glitches, but nothing else that I have noticed, its like a copy paste of the original. ( When I say glitches, some of the names were different)
