The rings are super easy for students to use It also helps them to avoid the temptation of moving the table to the left or to the right And as you know if you move the table too far to the left or too far to the right and try and score of the head you will have tableside to deal with
The problem with saying that it’s 3 to 1 is that some people that are new might not understand so taking a little bit longer when they’re first learning how to do it it’s OK
Its also helps a beginner to extend quill out all the way and put a square against quill. If you don't want to take off vise ,use a 4 inch gage block or anything taller than the vise. Was not stated in video to back the adjusting worm gear to the non tension feel. If you leave tension on worm gear the head will try to move the head out of being trammeled to zero. I have a 15 year old grandson that can indicate a vise in ,including having it bolted down in 2 minutes or less the way I showed him. Richard tool maker for 40 years.
