How to stabilize wood without spending money

This video is all about my newest experiment- stabilizing wood. But to make it more exciting I used only things I found at home or junkyard. The only thing I spend money for was resin of course, to have proper results. In the future my goal is to make more proffesional equipment for stabilizing wood.
And why to stabilize wood? The perfect thing about it is that you can use any wood (too soft, a bit rotten, etc..) and turn it into very hard high quality wood. For example in this little experiment I used Thuja wood.
In these condtitions it takes a really long time to soak resin into the wood, my old compressor from fridge has a bit less power I need. I hope I will fix that in the future with some vacuum beast :D
Hope you will enjoy the video :)
If you like the video please share it with your friend to support my work :)

That’s awesome I have an old mini fridge that I was about to throw out but now that I know I can use it for this, I’ll have to reconsider.

In the early days of Australia to protect fences from dry rot they would use drums split by thirds keeping 2/3 so that you could put a log or board inside the drum but first you put your logs in then put the retaining log like a "c" on it's back to stop the logs floating and fill it with what ever you were using to preserve your logs like old sump oil or creosote the you would carefully light a fire under it to heat your oil and as the heat rose the moisture and air would cook out and as the oil cooled the wood would draw the treatment in preserving your wood from white ant and moisture, obviously there were a lot of precautions taken to prevent firessuch as having the fire away frome and channeling the heat under the drums

@@imkidarose1 As long as you hit the correct temperature, it works. Though when I tried it, the ziploc bag also melted. So, you definitely need a more robust bag to make it work.

Very inspiring video. For a better world. Therefore, all your followers should know that this process is industrialized by the Dutch company Accsys. They sell their timber under the brand Accoya and their plates under the brand Tricoya. So now you can buy wood guaranteed rot free for 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground or freshwater, without the need to buy hardwood and thus without damaging tropical rain forest. Accsys is building two extra factories now, and since the publication of their Q1 results, the shares Accsys are rising.

Marek Excellent video and information. How about using 2 old compressor in series. The 1st stage will allow the second to acheive a higher vacuum level. However the higher the vacuum used the higher the chance your chamber will imploded. I have collected the same gear as you have and will build mine using 2 compressor very soon.

Best for knife scales. Knives get moist/wet, shrink/expand depending on the wood. Stabilised scales don't move, no gaps form round pins.

most interesting. personally, i think i would be keeping my face away from the glass jar unless i at least had a face shield on! could be quite messy if it imploded. that said, perhaps the fridge compressor cant approach enough vacuum to do that, though that could be hard to know for sure in advance.

David Langton it definetly DOESN'T make it stronger, its basicaly resin so it is brittle, but since every little wood fiber is soaked in epoxy, it will not expand a contract due to moisture.

You made a mistake along the way.......after pulling the vacuum for 24 hours you need to leave the wood in the resin for it to soak. The airpockets in the wood need time to suck in the resin. The way you do it only a very limited amount resin gets sucked into the wood. :)
@christians.8658
@christians.8658 6 лет назад
Yes, thats true
@FYahooo
@FYahooo 6 лет назад
Actually, that is not correct. The whole point of the vacuum is to pull all the air out of the wood. With the wood totally submerged in the risen, when the vacuum is releast the wood sucks up the resin into every location it previously had air.
@Toto-ko5on
@Toto-ko5on 6 лет назад
You are wrong. After vacuuming you should pres resin into the wood with high presure 20 - 40 bar. Just learn how to impregnate the electricity posts...

The manufactures of the resin do not agree with you. Now you must use pressure with aluminire resin, but that is a different substance.
