I can’t believe for years and years I have struggled to stand these units up without braking the legs.. this is another very simple and great idea. I can’t thank you enough Sir…
We've all struggled with these in the past Errol. When you're young and fit they were easy to lift off the floor, but when you get into your fifties, not so much.🥱😎 Thanks, as always for watching and your comment.😎
Ha, so obvious that none of us thought of it. 😆 What a brilliant tip this is. I admit I’ve bust a couple of these plastic legs in the past. Thanks for sharing 👌🏻
You are literally making my day today! This is fantastic! I’m working alone and was about to buy something to lift the cabinet up so that I can fit the feet. You’ve saved me around £100 in the past hour!
Great tip I seen a builder use a little timber box he made it was just a bit higher than the plinth depth, but this one even easier. We'll give you the gold star for this one.👌👌👌👍👍👍
Hi Kevin. I actually made a similar box many years ago, but it was always rattling around in the van, so I came up with something else.😎 Thanks for your comment. 👍
Same here Andy🤔and then one day a little light 💡 came on in my head, and I started using a board and some clamps👍I think so many of us are rushing around to get jobs done, that we, sometimes, don't take a moment to consider hiw to solve a little, niggle problem like uprighting tall units, and just struggle on the hard way😖Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del
At 6’ 7” I’m very much a tall carpenter…..but with tips & tricks like this you are very much ‘THE’ Tall Carpenter! 😊👍 Keep up the great work and always look forward to seeing your videos.
Welcome up here John.🤩 At 6'6" it's rare that I come across many people taller than me.🤪 Being an inch taller still, I suspect you come across fewer still.😆 Great to have fellow tall one watching, and thanks for your great comment.😎
So many people struggle with this exact problem, for years I've used 2 pieces of 2x1 screwed on the bottom inside edges at the back of the carcase (if that makes sense) let them hang down 160mm the same as the feet and just roll it upright, works like a charm. Works exactly the same in principle to how you've shown it 👍👍
@@thetallcarpenter have you seen the 'fitters mate' for manoeuvring units, it hasn't been about long but it looks just the ticket, not the cheapest but pretty good none the less
Brilliant! I have been looking at my heavy kitchen unit for the last 24 hours wondering how to put it upright without snapping off the legs. Am off to hunt for some clamps. Thank you for the tip!
You're more than welcome Martin.🤩 I've got the entire contents of my head to empty out onto RU-vid, so hopefully one or two more videos to come.🤯😜 Cheers.
Another fantastic tip Del, the simple tips are always the best! I've always tried to stand tall units on shallow tool boxes and and then put the feet on. Your method is much better, you don't have to get on your hands and knees for starters, will definitely adopt this for my next kitchen. Top tip. Bon weekend Phil
If I said Id been using this trick for 23 years Danny, Id be lying😉 I too struggled for years up righting these tall units😬Thanks for your comment and for watching😎Cheers Del
My tall unit wrestling days are behind me now Bradley.💪 I need to think of as many ways as possible to conserve my energy now I'm knocking on a bit.🥱 Thanks for watching.😎
It’s a good tip that one. Of late I have been fitting handless kitchens, they have decor panels on them. I do the same thing but it’s a bit heavy. I like your tip. Another one I will use thanks
@@thetallcarpenter yeah they were close to the wall so I couldn’t get it on after. I should of thought about your idea but just didn’t clock it. Thanks again
I use a roller board, I have a few that my systainers fit in and they work well for lifting tower units. Also once they're up you can move the tower around on the wheels into position then just drag the board out job done 👍
Hi Biggsy. Sounds like you've got a great little set up for wrangling these bigger units around.😎 Funnily enough, I actually used my roller cart today, to move an integrated F/F into position and up into the housing.💪 Thanks for watching and your comment.😎
A great tip. Those legs are also a nightmare if you don't pay attention while dragging the units across the floor. Fortunately I don't have to worry too much about snapping kitchen unit legs since the manufacturer of our units upgraded them a long time ago. Those big wide Hefele ones are so strong. Really enjoy your videos.
I know the legs you mean John. They are the real deal. This kitchen is just a middle of the road contractor range so lots of penny pinching on things like legs.😣 Thanks for watching and your great comment.😎 Cheers.
The trouble is Pat, that it makes such a mess of the base when the legs breaks away, and almost impossible to repair.😬 Always gonna get a few thumbs down.😎 Cheers.
You're absolutely right Jay.🤩 This method is good if you haven't got the right size kit box out or you're miles from the van.😝 Thanks for your comment.
Hi David. I did a few video kitchen fitting basics videos, but will continue to make videos of the various different elements of the job as I continue on my RU-vid journey.🤩 Thanks for your comment.😎
That a good tip. What do you think of my way. I put a systainer 2 under the edge of the cabinet, wind the 2 legs up that are next to the systainer so they don't catch and stand it up. Btw it only works if the systainer is festool 😉
Hi JRS. You're way is perfect as it does the job.🤩 I made a 160mm x 160mm cube for this purpose many years ago and used it the same way as you use your case.👍 (I just couldn't be bothered to lug it around on the van so came up with a different way).😎 Thanks for your comment.
Ok now I can stop brute force lifting it with my foot as the leverage lol. Although there is still the problem of tall AND wide cabinets that will hit the ceiling when diagonal
During the intro I was thinking i'd get two bits of wood and clamp it to the bottom to create a new fulcrum. That moment of realisation I was on the right wavelength was absolute bliss haha! - Ps do you any thoughts on the new clicbox kitchen units?
@@thetallcarpenter Far as I can tell they are interlocking boards with a vinyl click style edge to lock in the carcass. Technically they are Screwless and quick / simple to assemble, (top plate seems essential therefore) - problem is I can't find any satisfactory reviews on them to make me confident enough to go ahead with a purchase! Though you never know, might be a great idea.
@thetallcarpenter it's got 2 attachments 1 for moving worktops or fire doors and 2 for tuning it into a sack barrow type. You put the load on, i.e., a washing machine, a just wheel around holding the item I use mine for loads of different bits, mate
Hi Sheena. This is a fairly standard height kitchen with worktops about 900mm from the floor and wall/tall units about 2.1m.🤩 (I'm 1.97m tall😵). Cheers.
I normally screw some of the packing timbers normally with ovens or other appliances to teh service void and stand them up of them. Have you seen those kitchen fitters mate things that are coming out now?
Hi Paul. Thanks for your little tip, as its a great solution.😎 I haven't seen the kitchen fitters mate you mention, but will check them out.👊 Cheers mate.
@@thetallcarpenter just to be clear to others.... when i said above i would mark the timbers maybe 150mm or so and allow them to stick out that amount from the base of the cabinet. the other option is to put the front legs on only and stand them up that way. then put the rear legs on when its stood up. suppose theres various ways and means though
Don't sweat it Dean. 😜 I'd been doing things a certain way for longer than 25 years only to find/discover a much better way. (I've only just bought a plunge saw and guide rail🤯). Thanks for watching and your comment.😎
@@deanripley2875 Seriously Dean, the track saw has changed my carpentry world.🤯 It wouldn't be so bad if all my chippie mates hadn't been telling me to get one for the last 15 years.😣 Cheers.
