This is a great video!!!I am 13 and I am only 4'9" and I'm a libero but I am relatively strong in all the positions. I am trying out for a new club this year, but I've played for about 6 years and I just want to tell anyone that is reading this comment that all you need is a good attitude. Like he said be coachable and always thank the coaches after every practice and try out you attend
lol me wanting to see someone who's under 5'0 and can spike well. im sure youre good tho lol libero position is fun :( too bad im too tall to be that flexible and close to the floor
I barely play volley ball but for the past few months I've been running, jumping, spiking, digging, and doing everything to get on the volleyball team. This really helped me alot so thanks Coach donny:)
You hit this video right on the point! This is exactly me! I absolutely hate it when people think that I can't beat any guys who are taller than me! I'm on 5'6 but man I worked so hard to beat players who are 6'0+
1st day of tryouts were today! I got noticed by the coaches twice!!! We have two more days so I’ll keep you guys updated! I hustled everywhere I had to be and surprisingly I’m super good at setting😁 I’ve never played before and this is for school
I have never played volleyball before and I have become interested in it for awhile and watching you and playing with people who have experience helps me thank you!!!
deffinately going to work harder in these areas, got cut from varsity a couple days ago but I'm taking it as a "u didn't make it this time, but u can get better" was taking 15 and 17 guys were there. This is an awesome video!
I almost started crying when he said experience😭. I have been practicing nonstop for about 7months and went to a few mini training camps to try to boost my skill (the camps were fun for the most part, but I was always the worst one there). I haven’t actually played a real game but I try to get in reps with my aunts team. I don’t see her often and they always make me water girl 😔. Literally all of my friends have been telling me that it’s too late or that I don’t have the experience to play. I know!, awesome friends right😑 Idk what the purpose of this rant was. I guess to get my frustrating feeling out 😪anyways...
It’s never too late to try out for volleyball, i know some people who had made the team even when they started out late. Plus even if you get cut, use it as a learning opportunity. And More often than not it’s good to ask the coach why you got cut so you can get growth. Always remember you got this! :))
Maybe you should research more about volleyball games like know all the positions, rotations, and what the rules are so you can be a little bit more prepared when you actually play
Lol is never too late. There is a professional volleyball player in the men's poland league and he started playing when he was 17 so u can still go for a team whenever u want. There is no age for volleyball
I love this channel, thank you, coach, i've just arrived from my tryouts as a regular outside spiker standing at 5'5 and reaching 10'2! I was the shortest outside spiker and i still managed to get in the team, even the libero from my team is higher than me, I just want to thank you for everything coach Donny, I've been inspired by you a whole lot. Keep the great work coach and again, thanks a lot.
Im a 5'7 freshman female whos never played volleyball before and i dont know what position i should play but ive watched alot of volleyball videos and practiced with my own volleyball and im willing to learn and put in the work
We have tryouts tomorrow, I've been watching your videos for about 2 years now and I've learned a lot from them. If I make the team it's for you Coach Donny!
Coach Donny I would like to thank you for all the tips and skills that you have taught me. Today is the last day of tryouts and throughtout the whole week I've tried to use all of the steps and I think it worked. I already made the JV team at my school since we only have about 8 trying out for JV. I've improved so much in the things that I wasn't good at last year. I hope to start this year and become better each day. p.s I'm an outside hitter and I can finally jump and spike hard due to your videos
Elevate Yourself Hi. I have tryouts today and tomorrow. I know that I have to run a half mile in under 4 minutes. I'm not a runner but I've played volleyball my whole life and I am pretty good. If I don't make the time will that effect my impression? I'm so scared!!!! Thanks
You were on point!! This video is very helpful considering the fact that I have not successfully made the team yet after multiple tries. But when I watched this, I realized I've got a lot more to learn. Thanks for pointing these out!! I will definitely share your videos to my other friends who are aspiring to be a good player. 😊
I’m stocking up on these kind of videos to give me advice and hype me up for tryouts! Mine are on Tuesday so if you can, wish me luck and pray for me!!
I'd like to add that in my opinion: Coachability is THE MOST IMPORTANT... I've seen guys that have so much potential but is just so big headed that their game hasn't grown at all in 2 years. Listen to coach Donny PEOPLE!!!! To become the best, you have to LISTEN!!!
Thank you so much! This helps, I am not the tallest person and I barely practiced before this season in volleyball. Next year is 13's and I am so scared of not making a team, because both years I barely made one. The coaches at my tryouts are brutal and only take a few glances and if you mess up in those glances they cross you off the list. Another thing is try to go to every single clinic and camp etc you can for the team, the coaches will know you and what you're good at and pay more attention to you. Another thing, if you aren't tall, try doing jumps onto higher surfaces with your feet together 50 times a day in the summer, it boosts up your jumps a LOT! Also, use a hard ball to practice if you still use a light ball, strengthens your arms and trains you to be ready when you do start hard balls. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this, play hard!
Thank you so much! I have been training for months and tryouts are in a week! I'm a 5'7 freshman but I'm training to make Varsity. In that way even if I fail to make Varsity I could make JV, which is still pretty impressive. I hope to be spiker even if I'm not too tall.
I am a 5'6 7th grader and I have only played volleyball with my family. Im new and dont know as much so I look for tips and tricks. tryouts are soon and this video really helped. Some of the videos ive been watching didnt really help as much as yours. So thank you!
I'm trying out for my 8th grade volleyball team in 3 days and I'm so nervous. At my school we separate the teams by A team, B team, and C team. I really don't want to make C team so I looked up videos that could help and this popped up. I'm super glad to hear that he said mostly what the A team coach said that they're looking for. This really helped. I'm also really short so it's harder for me but I think I'm good enough to at least make B team. Thanks
i have tryouts on sunday, im really nervous and even though u posted this in 2016, i would just like to say thank u for truly showing me all the important work ethics i should have for tryouts! wish me luck!
Thank you so much coach, i am going to try out for my schools volleyball next year and I'm going to be practicing these skills and skills on the court until then
I’m a freshman and today my teacher announced which players are on the varsity team and Jv team. I made the varsity team!! By the way I’m the only freshman that made the team when there were 7 or 8 others, I’m not trying to act all that I’m just stating facts. Wish me good luck on my first game on Friday!!!
Try outs are in about a month for my school team. Though I've never played setter, I'm going to try out for it since we don't have one. I'm going to work in all 5 areas and hit the gym and go on runs all month! Thanks for the inspiration Coach Donny!!
I have never played volleyball and I want to try it so I tryout for the team. Our school doesn’t have boy volleyball jv I don’t think I can compete with the junior and seniors ( as a freshmen) :(
Thank you coach donny! I tried out for Junior Varsity Boys this week with about 10 days of experience with volleyball and made it through! There were about 30 guys trying out for just JV so it was pretty competitive. It was 3 days long and now I'm super sore but we're having a training session on Monday to finalise the team! I'm praying that I don't get cut at the last moment! That would be an absolute tragedy haha.
I wish I could have seen this before starting varsity five years ago. I think I got in because the members were getting fewer; they never taught me things that I only learned from Coach Donny, and whenever the ball came to me, I'd just bring it to the other court (chance ball) because I didn't know about setting that time. They'd just let me hit the ball and train with them, but they never gave me any feedback. I wasn't feeling it anymore and quickly became lazy, so I quitted, which I wouldn't do again if I could go back. And here I am playing volleyball and training in our garage alone. Regretting for not being able to play to my full potential. I can't join any sports teams anymore because I need to concentrate on becoming a psychologist. Goodluck to everyone and I hope you make to the team, if no one will teach you, teach yourself. Wish I could've done it sooner.
This is so helpful! I'm trying out for my JV D1 high school team and I'm really nervous since I've never played-this helped me learn what I need to focus on over the summer!!
I'm trying out for a club team this season, and I've been watching videos of the team I'm trying out for and they're really good I'm so scared!! I know little tips and tricks like what to wear to make you look more athletic and promising, don't cross your arms because it'll make you look sassy, always smile, etc etc but I'm still very scared😬 these girls are so good!!
i would really appreciate it if you made a video about how a libero can stand out in tryouts. I have heard many people saying how important being tall really is but I still wonder whether height really plays a role even when you re a libero!
Eya Pap it doesn’t matter how tall you are going for the ball even if it seems impossible to get it go for it. The coaches will see this and really like this.
I've always been one of the best in school but since our schools don't really focus on sports, especially smth like volleyball (basketball is dominant) I think that I'd be the worst one in an actual volleyball club which is motivating
I play setter. I made first and second tryout using what this video says. Final tryouts are in 5 days, I'll edit this comment whether I make it or not Edit: I made it
i am a 5'4 sophomore, and i have played volleyball last year, but for fun in my P.E class. I have also been playing this year and tryouts are in the summer. I really want to make it to the team, knowing that i am late and i should've been in it during freshmen year. I have been researching on how to play, and i understand how to bump and set, but i am not so hot in overhand serves or spikes. still practicing on that. Are there any more tips you can give?
Natalie stefanie keep practicing and practicing and practicing, when i first started i could not get any serves over, plus i'm 5'2. But i kept practicing and now i can jump serve :) keep practicing and you will get it, and not just servjng but practice in all areas as well
hey coach donny, i think i excel in work ethic because im always looking for open gyms to play at and always looking for my mistakes. unfortunately, i cant afford clinics, camps, or club. ive shown my college coach that i want to play but its so hard to get consistent good practice because of this.
+Elevate Yourself i actually keep a journal on the things i learn every week in order to not forget them later on and have to relearn simply because i forgot. As of right now, i dont really have a close friend that is motivated but that wont keep me from trying to find that person. Also, when you refer to working on one aspect at a time, do you mean to only work on (for the sake of an example) a certain aspect of passing such as receiving hard hits, floats, etc?
Even if you don't make the school team it doesn't mean the end of your volleyball career, if you don't make it then get yourself a job, from there save all that money up and when summer hits buy yourself a ticket to training camps, after you do that play in open leagues, which by then the training camps work out should have helped you into close leagues, which then the couches could help you get into college with volleyball, and from there it's up to you if you want to go pro or not, keep mind this is a lot easier said then done, but if you don't give up and work hard for it you too can fly high.
I'm 5'7" (about) and in 8th grade. I've been playing volleyball since 3rd grade. (I tried out, made it, and then they closed tryouts for 3rd graders the year after, so I lucked out). Even though I'm tall, I play libero. It's just... the position I love playing. I am okay at hitting, but setting and net play I'm not that great at, so I think my position is just fine. Tryouts are in two days for my new team :p
I'm 14 and 5'5! I'm a middle blocker but I can also be a wing spiker. I've been playing for around 6 months, tbh my hope is probably my athleticism. I mean I'm pretty fast, reaction time is good and my vert is a solid 31". I was thinking of maybe taking lessons at the team first but I haven't got time for that rn. I have 4 months till I hit 15 years old so I haven't got much prime time left for improvement so I rlly hope I make it.
I'm gonna try out for a team next winter, and not to sound cocky I think I have all of these except organized volleyball experience, I've only played beach in a rec league with adults and only co ed because there are no boys in my area that play. BUT I feel like I can translate what I've done in outdoor to indoor
even tho i want to be sneaker reseller i enjoy vollyball and love playing it so i still practice buy the good equipment so i dont carry my team down but carry them up
I would say I pass for everything on the list of what the coaches are looking for except for.... experience. I've never been on a volleyball team, yet people assume in my P.E. class that I do, since they say I'm good at it. I would like to go to volleyball camp for our school or play volleyball at the Y, but that's during the summer. I have a volleyball meet tomorrow for information on joining the team... so.. wish me luck? :P
We don’t have try outs but I’m here because I’ve had two coaches from college volleyball scout me out. One came to shake my hand while the other one gave me a shout out on a state website so I’m trying to stand out a bit more since that coach gave me a shout out
I'm an 8th greater trying out for high school volleyball next year. I know for a fact I'll be going to open gym,in summer, ANY chance I get, so i can practice before tryouts. I'm asking my P.E. Teacher for help on whatever she can coach me on. I made the volleyball team this school year after playing it for fun last year P.E. im searching videos on tips to make the team. This video is certainly helping
I'm not fit little flab of fat at the bottom, I've never played volleyball before but I watched so many videos about it, and practiced digging, setting, receiving, roll saves, and everything to be a libero, I am intense, I listen to my teachers so I think I'm coachable, i have work ethic i will go for any ball impossible or not I will go for it until it touches the ground and is no longer in the air. I have asthma. I hope ill make my team this helps me a lot thank you
I made my school team this year (I'm in 8th it's co-ed) and I'm really not athletic at all, I could barely condition because I get tired unlike the other boys/girls who have muscle.I really try my best though to keep up, I push and push to my limits. I'm not your ideal volleyball player, people make fun of me for my body shape. But I'm really good at passing and setting. I'm a defensive specialist and a setter :)
I'm 16 and I genuinely want to tryout for a club team. I've been playing on school volleyball teams for about 7 years, and I feel like club would really help me improve my skills. I've been playing the Libero position ever since I entered high school. I feel as though my skills don't compare to those who have been playing club for years .. I'm also really short aha. I feel discouraged every time I think about it, but to be honest I'm willing to work for it. Thanks for the tips! You really inspired me!
I have tryouts in a few hours. I’m pretty confident in my skills and i’ve been playing since 7th grade and i’m a sophomore now. im still super nervous, wish me luck. i’ll update people if i made the team when i get an email. 🙈🙈
