I "eased" into Keto, slowly eliminating high carb foods or substituting them with low carbs bars, this helped me avoid the dreaded keto flu that many people get when they try to make the switch overnight. It took me 40 days to lose my first 10lbs, but five months later I'm down 65lbs and off all Rx's! Oh! And I'm feeling better than ever and have no cravings for my old Faves! Good luck all!

Yeah...that is great but you won't be able to sustain this lifestyle. Your body NEEDS carbs. Keto is just a fad and of course you lost weight because your calorie count dropped. That is all that matters. Calories in vs calories out, NOT carbs. I would suggest you go to the OMAD way of life. It's much much easier and you can just eat what you want. Keto will cause you to have issues with food like viewing carbs as evil.

@@XxsoonerbornxX I responded to you on another thread. I do IF (sometimes OMAD sometimes 16/8 or some other variation of time restricted eating). and KETO. I do allow my carbs to vary from 10-60 per day depending what's going on in my life and I allow myself a cheat and very special occasions (like my neice's wedding I will be going to next week). But special means special, not everyday or even every week. In six months I've stumbled briefly four times and I get right back on it. This is very sustainable for me at this season in my life. I wish you good health! P.S. I count carbs AND calories. My calories range between 1700-3500 per day. I still lose weight even though my calories should be no more than 2950.

@@maryanntupas9522 Dr Berg addresses this in some of his videos, I didn't watch as it wasn't my issue. You can put that question in the search bar and I'm sure you'll get a lot of videos pop up. Always great to check with your doctor first before changing your diet or RXs. Good luck.

I keep it simple. No potatoes, rice or pasta. No sugary stuff. I eat steel cut oats a few days a week with a packet of stevia, toasted almonds, and unsweetened almond milk. If I want a treat I have a small amount of Keto krax, no sugar dark chocolate with almonds. I walk an hour a day 5 to six days a week. Blood sugar was 14 two months ago, is now 6.3.

I've been on low carb high fat for 8 years. I started thank's to a lecture by Diet Dr Andreas I took my overweight mother to. She failed to stick with it but I kept going because it made me feel so good. No cravings, no constantly thinking about food. I was not overweight but it has kept me from getting overweight despite enjoying fantastic food every day. I've had health checks and blood tests and my blood fats are all good. I think one secret to success is to keep it simple. Don't hassle with replacement products and bars etc - but just eat real food!

I just love not feeling hungry anymore. I have more energy and have better skin. My anxiety has reduced significantly and I have been losing weight at a slow and steady pace. This is probably because I was only 14lbs overweight, so it is slower, but I'm happy with that because I've been losing inches everywhere. I want to do it as a lifestyle not a quick fix.

65lbs down in 24 weeks! No cravings. Off all Rx's. Just started feeling well enough to start exercising about 3 months ago. Fast food commercials for my old Faves now gross me out. The best diet is one that you can stick to for life. For me, that's Keto!

Trying to do the same. Been on keto for about five months now. Down 65lbs. My last blood work showed my A1C at 6.58 - that was using metformin and glipizide (but a very crappy diet!)! I'm not using either now and will be getting blood work done next week.

@@XxsoonerbornxX you need both IF AND a lo-carb diet. Keto, like Atkins, is here to stay. Ultimately, the best diet is one you can stick with your whole life. For me that IF & Keto with some supplements thrown in for good measure. Down 70lbs in 26 weeks, off all RXs, waiting to get results back from my blood test yesterday. Nine months ago my resting pulse was 102bpm. Last month it was 81bpm. 62 years old on Sunday, feeling like I'm 50! 90lbs more to go! I wish you good health.

Some folks are not going to want to hear this but the reality is. Many with weight problems would see more/faster weight lost if they could remove these "keto" approved bars from their diet until they reach the weight goals. Great Job diet doctor for speaking up about these foods

So true. I found some "keto" tortillas...great...so of course I read the ingredients, first on the list : Whole wheat...followed by Corn Flour and some others stuff that was not keto friendly. You have to read ingredients. Everything this doctor says is true because I lost weight that I couldn't loose in 8 yrs in 6 months. You feel so much better and you stop craving sugar fixes etc.

Low-carb diet last Tuesday: I lost 8 pounds in 6 days. Today I ate only one meal and did not feel like eating the rest of the day. I had one lemon a day for Vitamin C.

I know that one thing that Dr. Sarah Hallberg mentioned in an interview is that she’s seen in her trials is that people often hit a year-two weight stall for some reason, but that their health markers continue to improve, and that the weight often starts to come off again in year three if people stick with. I’m not sure why that is but I’m pretty sure that she mentioned that she’s observed that in her clinical trials.

I count carbs AND calories and was hitting plateaus left and right. I incorporated another dieting concept called ZigZag cycling. Basically I might have a high calorie day and follow it with a low calorie day or two. This keeps your body from resetting it Metabolic thermostat keeping it burning at the high calorie rate. I still have a plateau every now and then, but it only lasts a day or two and is usually in line with when my plumbing gets backed up. Once the pipes are moving again weight continues dropping. I just started exercising about three months ago. 65lbs down in 24 weeks, 95lbs more to go!

I took my doctor’s recommendation and only have dessert once a week by not going to my favorite bakery/cafe. The cravings didn’t stop, but is much lowered. I now only go to the bakery once a month, and ice cream also once a month. Fortunately, I am not a big candy eater. Rice and bread, however, is really hard to lower, but I am working on it.

Honestly depends; hard keto can leave you feeling pretty spacey for a while, even with salts. But if you've got some leave, take a week off and focus on building new habits. A slower transition can also be gentler for fat adaption which can take months. But ... by having carbs, you'll likely be more tempted to cheat more and may fail to make any real progress. Go full keto if you can, accept you'll feel off for first week.

My research that I have been doing on keto, carnivore, and low-carb is really starting to frustrate me, because there are so many specialists who are completely contradictive of each other. How can so many medical specialists not agree? I thought that they were scientists themselves. Science is science. So how can there be so many contradictions?

I hate it when everybody assumes that a low-carb diet is needed to LOSE WEIGHT! I am a 5'6" male weighing in at 120lbs. I need to GAIN WEIGHT and I ALSO NEED TO LOWER MY BLOOD SUGAR! So how am I supposed to gain weight and avoid carbs at the same time?! "Eat more pasta!" everyone says. I CAN'T! Too many carbs!

Go to the gym and build muscle. Carbs affect more than just your weight. You can still get diabetes even if you are skinny if you eat the wrong foods.

Can you please clear these two things for me? 1. On low carb diet from 30g to 100g carbs. What would your body be running on? 2. Sometimes the food consumed would have high fat and high protein. What happens if on day you'd got more of one source over the other or almost a match between the two? 3. Is it a sustainable lifestyle? I don't want to live on junk food but I'm human, and sometimes there's going to be an event or an instance where I would incorporate something sweet like two biscuits or containing carb. Especially over the weekend but I would still be mindful of not going over 100g. Will that hurt the diet? Thanks for this video, @Diet Doctor

What about fiber here? If you can have limited fruit and no bread etc then meat 🥩 won’t give to you and vegetables are minimal along with nuts. Avocados are high in fiber but also loaded in calories as well.

As someone who's eaten an atkins low carb diet for 30 years now I'd like to make several suggestions. First never start a low carb or any type of diet without seeing your doctor first. Have blood work done at least a couple of times a year to look for diet related issues. Second do your research. I have a forty year old copy of atkins new diet revolution that's the best piece of low carb diet advice I've ever read. Don't believe fifty carbs per day is low carb. It may be acceptable for those active athletes but for the average person it off the charts high in carbs. Personally I allow myself 12 carbs per day and it's not a real issue for me. The induction phase of low carb is always under 20 carbs per day and once you reach your maintenance phase you may be able to increase carbs to 25 or 30 per day. Weight loss is not dependent on carbs. All diets work the same. You eat less calories than you burn and you'll lose weight. Although you aren't required to count calories on a low carb diet you will still need to eat less to reduce your weight. Fortunately a low carb diet gets your metabolism to burn fats instead of sugars and also reduces your appetite so you can eat less food without feeling hungry. I would suggest for those who intend to lose a large amount of weight to not view a low carb diet as what vegetables am I allowed to eat but rather as a carnivore diet where you get all your nutrition from meats, fats, and sea foods. Then allow yourself a couple of half cup servings of low carb vegetables as eating enjoyment. Although greek yogurt is the lowest carb yogurt it's not low enough to be included in the induction phase of a low carb diet. The main foods you need to avoid are fruit, grains, potatoes, corn, rice, beans. None of them with the exception of green beans are allowed on a low carb diet. I keep seeing suggestions for berries but no berries are allowed on the induction phase of low carb. Even nuts and seeds are not allowed during the weight loss phase. Although keto is a low carb diet it's very limited and difficult for most people and unfortunately the word is often used wrongly. Recipes and foods are not keto. They are low carb that may be acceptable on a keto style diet. My 12 carbs per day I allow myself doesn't put me in a keto diet because I don't eat the percents of carbs, proteins and fats that denote a keto diet. I eat an atkins low carb diet and will continue to as I consider it a very healthy diet. Now I'll repeat my advice. Learn all you can about a carnivore diet based on meats, seafoods, fats. Then add a couple of servings of low carb vegetables per day and you should be in good shape for health and energy. Oh and please it's very important to increase your salt intake and perhaps lower your water intake to prevent losing too much sodium from a low carb diet.

You shouldn't drink coffee or tea with your meal, as you can lose a lot of your vitamins. Wait at least 30 minutes before having caffeine

Doc, My functional doc I am seeing for Hashimotos advised to not eat cheese, peanuts, pistachios as it feeds leaky gut. And I am on keto as carbs make me tired and for not increasing my bell fat at menopause. I feel deprived because of no cheese, but was told that even erythritol is made from gmo corn and should not be taken. Stevia and monk fruit are ok per my functional doc. Please provide your insights on these foods. Does keto help heal Candida and leaky gut?

Good advice but where is the information on low-carb fruits? Would be important to mention the role of berries and other low-carb fruits etc, essential for health.

Tomorrow its 3 weeks since i started the so called "Keto" Diet i have given up everything i love. Pasta, Bread, Potatoes, alcohol, Crips and chips etc. Eat only 2 meals a day, can't sleep anymore than 3h a night, and for what ? I lost 1kg in 3 weeks !!!!!!!!!!! All this torture to lose 1kg . No thanks

You can eat any meat. Just avoid pasta, potatoes, rice and sugary stuff like ice cream, candy, soda etc.

A Question to Keto and Low/No carb advocates? Can you explain to me why ? *The Chinese eat tons of carbs, but still most are slim. * The Indians are vegetarians , all what they eat is carbs , but still most are slim. * The Turks, eat tons of bread and carbs, but still most are slim. * The French eat tons of bread , but still most are slim. By the way , all these groups , don’t have an Epidemic Of; Obesity, diabetes and heart disease that we have in the USA 🇺🇸. I have been waiting for an answer, from the American medical community, for 30 years. Any one ?

Hello can this Dr or anyone answer my question as to whether keto is safe when I have these problems 1. naturally low blood sugar with low HBA1C no matter what I eat, chocolate, etc, don’t know why it’s always low. 2. hypothyroidism 3. low blood pressure 4. high cholesterol Oh I forgot to mention 5.
