For many of us, cigar collecting is as much fun as actually lighting one up. But there are certainly some things you'll want to know as your collection starts to grow. Here are some things I wish I had known before I started my first collection.

smart. I didn't mention it at the beginning of the video, but there are two reasons people get into cigars - the flavor and the community. Sounds like you've got a good fix on both.

After suffering a black mold issue and loosing a bunch of Opus X Angel share cigars having multiple small humidors can help minimize loss of a collection and money. Small humidors can also help separate flavored sticks, brands in addition to being portable.

I use Rubbermaid airtight containers to store mine. Each one holds about 40 6x60 sticks. With 69% boveda packs its stays constant at 70% temp between 63 and 67 in my basement.

Passed 500 a long time ago. I try keeping it down to about 1200. I like acrylic. It is much easier to segregate blends and keep labels and even different RH on certain sticks. Appearance, I keep all the containers in a nice wooden cabinet.

I got the Tooca Cigar Cooler Humidor and a Cigar Oasis Plus 3.0. I also got some spanish cedar trays to help store and easily contain my cigars. During the winter the humidor in my basement it was staying a bit cool. I put a terrarium (lizard) heating pad with a temperature controller in the bottom. I set it at 67 and the cooler at 68 and humidity at 68. Then I try to rotate my sticks around from time to time. Every stick seems to be happy and smoke well! I learned a lot from Tim's Vlog. I hope my experience helps someone else get a great humidor set up. Like Tim says, we are all better when we learn together.

I'm a 65%/55º kind of guy. Picked it up from Edward Sahakian from Davidoff of London after hearing his stories on how and why they began storing at this climate. A nice side-effect they realized was a furthering of light fermentation that really rounds and bolsters flavors of the individual blends. I highly recommend it! 65% bovedas, gallon size ziplocks and a wine cooler is a very effective and relatively affordable way to get this. I also have a small 50ct humidor I keep at 60-65% but room temp 70-72ºF and it just maintains very consistent flavors but one needs to mind the humidity levels, even with a shitload of boveda packs - it can really drop within a couple of weeks.

I started a collection a few months ago. My first recommendation is start with mild to medium strength cigars. I wasn’t fully aware as to what that meant and the effect of a full strength cigar initially. Then I would recommend buying single sticks or samplers. IMO, cigars are too expensive to buy 2 of each just in case you might like it. There are a LOT of cigars out there. If you can’t find more of what you like, you will find another brand you like. Don’t fall for the Cuban sandwich bundle deals with the great reviews. You might realize after the 2nd of 3rd you don’t agree with the reviews at all. I made this mistake with Factory Smokes. Terrible stick, but some people love them. I bought a bunch and ended up giving away 18 of them. Never buy a box or bundle until you have had at least 3-5. I’ve heard some say they never buy more than 5-10 at a time. I like that plan. Read reviews for the physical characteristics of the cigar, not for peoples preferences. Everyone has a different preference in a cigar, and will rate them to their liking. However, reading repeated reviews about bad burns, bad draws, poor construction is helpful information to consider.

I'm brand new to cigars (I've never smoked anything before) and that's what I did. I went straight to the samplers to get a wide variety to learn what I liked and to better understand what's what. I also followed the advice of starting with mild strength cigars, I figured it's easy to move up but if it's too strong I won't even want to finish it. For me at least, your advice is spot on!

I started with the crowder sampler which is awesome to start with. So much variety. I got two of those and then some 4 pack samplers. The biggest thing I’d change is don’t be hesitant to try economy cigars especially now that I enjoy one to two every to every other day. Also like Tim said, keep track of what you love. Try to get the cigars daily review sampler with the book and rate your favorites so you know what to stock up on when there are box deals. I’m still new to it but I love that there’s always more to know and try. So far I haven’t had any that I don’t like. I think I’m lucky and just love cigars or I just haven’t explored enough yet. Can’t wait till I’m out of college, own a home and can have a dedicated lounge so weather is less of a factor as to when I can enjoy them.

I run three humidors and a tupperdore. My smallest humidor is a case of vegas, and a bundle for smoking. The next size up is lights and singles for smoking, and the third is cigars I'm keeping to age. The tupperdore is for overflow smokers, it is by far the easiest to maintain at proper humidity. I buy in threes, one to keep and two to smoke. If I like them I'll buy more and throw another one in the ageing humidor.

I have about a 150ct desktop humidor as my first one. Just started this obsession a couple months ago, I’m hooked already! I get sucked in with the swag promotions and freebies so I have a few too many boxes to fit in the desk top, they live in Boveda bags. I’d like a cabinet like Tim’s but that should wait till we own a house, I think. Next step is Audew 400ct, should be golden for a while with that.

One thing I always wish was cigar humidor sizes were more accurate, instead of always referring to smaller ring gauge cigars. It should have a list of ring gauge sand how many it will fit, so. I matter the ring gauge, or length you prefer, you’ll know better how big a humidor to buy, for the size collection you plan to acquire. Kinda resorts to making you buy multiple humidors, but I’ll have to do that as my collection grows.
@davidd.234
@davidd.234 2 года назад
I think they would reference the count account to the most common ring gauge A humidor that’s a 100 count may hold 100 lancero or 85-90 toro Or maybe 75-80 robusto I believe most popular is robusto which is around 52-54 ring then the 100 should be advertised as 80. The you wouldn’t be disappointed with it when you only fit 78 and excited when you put 100 lanceros in. Or 75-80 mid rings

I have around 50-60 or so cigars, I do sort of keep them by brand in separate tupperdors. All Perdomo in one, My Father in another, Oliva in another and one for my cheaper, every day sticks. Also going to get another one for sampler packs or cigars I'm trying out and are unsure of yet. Tupperware is definitely cheaper but I will soon be upgrading to at least a 150-300 count refrigerated humidor. Just saving my money for one. Thanks for the great videos Tim! Keep em coming! My ammodor has 3 sections: cigars I haven’t tried yet, cigars I tried and have gone back and bought more, cigars I tried and really weren’t my thing so I will share them with friends. I got a brown bag sampler about 6 years ago that had 10-15 cigars and I would smoke one every morning on my hour-long drive to work. It was in that sampler that I found my absolute favorite cigar of all time, a My Father Patriarch box pressed in Corona Extra. Of course they were a limited run and that was the first and only one I could smoke. My understanding is that the patriarch line were a special blend 8 dollar stick he made using the best tobacco to commemorate his father who passed away. I've never gotten such a nicotine high from any smoke ever, it felt like I had absolute peace for the next 4-5 hours, not to mention the flavor was amazing, the burn was razor sharp, ash held on for about 2 inches or 35 minutes, volumes of smoke, I've never smoked nor desire to smoke weed but if someone told me that cigar was laced with weed I'd freaking believe it lmao. Alas, I felt the need to rant a couple minutes to a stranger about that one for no reason in particular and now I'm gonna fire up a drew estate factory smoke.

I get at least 3 of whatever I purchase. One to smoke, 2 to save. If you have a friend over, and I mean a friend, and you offer them one from your selection, they aren't taking the last one. It decreases 'lottery anxiety'. The other side is, suppose your friend has one that you really want to try, and they are willing to trade...same thing, they aren't taking the last one...not to mention, if you decide to smoke one, you're not smoking the last one, which, if you're like me, would be a deterrent. Also, go ahead an buy boxes of the cigars you really cherish. You may be expending budget that you could put towards trying 7 or 8 different cigars, but, if a cigar sells out, and you really liked it, you know what you're missing compared to not knowing the 7 or 8 you didn't try.

If you live in Arizona like I do, get a nice Tupperware container and a couple of Boveda packs and you will be good.

Not sure … IF you have the “wrong” power program, your home will be too warm. If you have solar, much easier to maintain temp. Still, I love my winadors.

What do ppl usually use separators for? How do you separate your collection? Light/mild vs Dark/strong? Origin? Other?

I have a 50ct humidor and a separator. In that section it's only like 2-3 inches from edge. That is where I keep my go to cigars Romeo's my favorites. The larger section is for one's im not sure about yet. Like when I buy a Sampler.

I keep mine in a mason jar with a boveda . I’m cheap and I only keep 5 at a time as I only have 1-2 on the weekend . But my wife says it’s ugly so I might be forced into a humidor of some kind .

I need a temperature controlled humidor because my room gets too hot when I’m not there with the ac on. My humidity is always perfect at 70%. But I get worried cause I’ll get home and the temp can get up to 80 degrees (humidity 70)😬. Should I be worried about that?

@cigarsdaily I plan on buying the 300 stick coolador fro Audew ( currently use Rubbermaid Tupperdors). Are you saying I can't put infused and regular stick in the Audew together, or they just need to be separated (different shelves)?
@lionamongstlambs4119
@lionamongstlambs4119 3 года назад
They will mix just being in the same humidor. It's strongly advised to have a completely separate one for your infused sticks

The only thing I didn’t hear mentioned was seasoning the humidor. My boveda kit says two 84% packs per 50 capacity for two weeks in a new humidor before you put cigars in. Wonder how necessary this is I’m less than 1 month into sticks and have my humidor seasoning waiting for my purchases.

I live on a tight budget my recommendation is buy more than you smoke. For me that was easy I smoke about 1 a week so I got 2 each week. Buy 1 you know you'll like and then buy 1 you've never tried. Eventually you'll buy 2 new ones and 1 you already love.

Hey Tim, I’m in college but really enjoy cigars. I got a humidor last summer for my birthday but have not been able to start a collection like I’ve wanted to due to my budget. Do you have any tips for growing a collection on a college budget? Thanks so much, love the channel!
@ashtonmcmullen6799
@ashtonmcmullen6799 2 года назад
Not Tim, but fellow college cigar-guy. My tips- 1) Cigarbid + sales on other sites are your new best friends. 2) Tupperdors! If you can buy cigars in bulk (cigarbid, etc.), they’ll be cheaper. But more cigars means more storage. Get a few tupperware containers with boveda packs to stick in a closet and you’ve got a really cost effective, space saving way to store the cigars you buy in bulk. 3) Try the sample packs on various different sites to try a bunch of different sticks for a decent price, then bulk buy the ones that knock your socks off. Lastly, 4) Look at the discount/clearance/under $2 sections on sites like Holt’s and other cigar sites. There’s some seriously good sticks mixed in there and it makes it really easy and cheap to add some good variety and discover different blends, wrappers, companies, etc. Makes for cost-effective daily sticks.

There is a real potential market out there, definitely not yet satisfied, for something like a refrigerated 50 count desktop humidor. Probably powered with something like a laptop battery. Because not everyone who lives in a non-air conditioned home in 80+ degree climate has room for an entire mini-fridge just for their 30-50 cigars.

I got divorced, bought a house, payed off all my debts and bought a 6’ tall cabinet humidor for my man cave house. I smoke in every room, don’t care what anything smells like😎. I buy most of mine by the box. 65% humidity @ 64° in the winter & 70° in the summer.
