It’s unbelievable how much easier maintaining cigars has become when I switched to boveda.

I’m off grid mountain man with a several hundred cigar collection. I have a solar system that powers my freezer and lights, but it’s not enough to power an electric humidor to boot. I’m using Tupperdores with Boveda packs for humidity control, and those are in insulated plastic tubs that controls temperature. On really hot days I put a blue ice pack in each plastic tub. With the individual Tupperdores in the plastic tubs, the ice pack doesn’t hurt the humidity in the individual Tupperdores. In north Idaho it gets hot, but we don’t have high humidity, so controlling temperature isn’t really difficult at all. It requires a little diligence to monitor my cigars, but it’s worth it. I’ve got digital hygrometers in each Tupperdore. I rotate the Tupperdores inside the plastic tubs from time to time. I’ve got several thousands of $ in cigars, and so far so good. I haven’t had any issues. I’m building a basement b4 long, and my cigars will be stored there. It’ll be a constant temperature in the basement, and my maintenance of my cigar collection will be minimal. Since I don’t have to buy an electric humidor, I can buy more cigars. I do fantasize about a walk-in humidor though. It would be cool to walk in and look at my cigar collection. Maybe I’ll build one in the basement?

After 5 years out of cigars with focusing on pipes, im now getting back into it. The only real humidity options back then were the sponges soaked in water, or later beads, but they were in their infancy and not very good. This made tupperdores a real issue because of mold. Now coming back i was concerned about expense of buying storage for the modest collection of 100 or so cigars i want (not over 1000 like before lol). But with the Boveda packs now available in large sizes, £30 on a tupperware tub, 2 boveda packs and a hydrometer im good to go. Love it

I’ve used a Basic Wooden Desktop Humidor (50 cigars) with a Cigar Oasis electric humidifier (has a fan and a florist-type thing that held distilled water for a month), which made the humidor hold less (like 40 cigars) for about 10 years and enjoyed; however, it’s a pain to fill, it’s good but not great, as it takes two weeks to condition a refill of cigars because it’s not a tight seal and just now, the Cigar Oasis has MOLD! I’m over it and going to a Wine Fridge Thing! Thank you for the video. I love Diesel too! 😊

Great video. To add to it- - I bought a Goove Blue tooth humidity monitor for $13 you mentioned and it is awesome because I don't have to open my wooden humidor to check the humidity. I just go on my phone every once in awhile and check although being honest it's not changing much which is a good thing. - I bought these tiny beads on Amazon which are for maintaining humidity. They are hard and tiny in a big bag of them. You simply put them in a small small dish, add water and they will grow in size 4 to 5 times. Now you put the beads in your humidor in a little net bag and they act just like the bovo packs but are meant to be rechargeable so they'll never wear out. So far for two months they are working great and keeping me right at 70%. - I like the look and smell of a cedar wood humidor and don't find it labor intensive at all. You're going in and out and getting a stogie everyday so it's not hard to check the status of them. - seasoning the new wood humidor. There was nothing to it I just took a rag that was wet and wiped the entire inside leaving no puddles. Put it a humidity gauge in it and checked it two days later and I was right about where I wanted to be.

I spent around $12 on a tupperware box, another $9 on a hygrometer from Amazon, and $3 for a 69% boveda pack. For around $24, I have a set and forget humidor, allowing me to spend the big money on cigars. No reason to spend money on a humidor unless you simply want to.

I got mine for under 40 bucks and it came with a hygrometer and two cedar shelves, perfect for anyone who's not building a serious collection. You've gotta be careful with the bovida packs, I would recommend switching to 65 percent. The Tupperware seals so well that they tend to run 3-5 percent over the packs you use, 65s tend to keep mine right around 68-70 percent.

@austinbrown5426 Mine actually is usually bang on at 69%, however the temperature is something I need to control, as that tends to sit around 65 degrees. My wife has mentioned getting me one of those mini-fridge looking devices that controls temp, so that might be my next step.

I wish I would have stayed with my first desktop humidor. 30-40 ct, inexpensive, manageable. But, at some point, I dove deep into the world of cigars and convinced myself that needed the 400 ct new air. I’m never going to have more than 40-50 on hand at any given time! I do store wine and bourbon in there as well, but it really is overkill and tougher to maintain humidity due to cost of using multiple Boveda, a cigar oasis, or anything other than water and a sponge.

As someone that smokes maybe 2-3x a month I really like desktop humidors. BUT... The thing with desktop humidors is you often get what you pay for. A lower end desktop humidor (especially glass top ones) is usually pretty leaky. So you end up going through boveda packs like candy. IMO I'd much rather get a tupperdor vs. a low end desktop humidor. A really well made desktop humidor will have a great seal and a 62% Boveda pack is all you need to keep RH 60-62% (I find this range is optimal for flavor and burn for both NW and Cuban Cigars).

One is on a table the other is on lino floor. Tried 3 methods, included bowl for distilled water, multiple boveda packs, 84 then 75s. Also purchased a humidicup and that got it closer, but still not perfect, the top wouldn't hold humidity. Everytime the unit chilled, it would take the humidity out. Door seal isn't perfect, I can shine my phone light through a bit of the seal at the bottom. Used tape to seal it better, but no change.

Will the boveda pack do the same job of little plastic humidifier included in some of the cheaper humidor’s? I’d buy the digital hygrometer I see a lot of negative reviews on an the analog ones.

Do you have any videos regarding re seasoning your humidor? its winter time in New Jersey and my humidor is about 6% less humidity than in what in the fall and summer. I have a diamond crown Wesley 90 count humidor. I put in three 60 gram 72 RH bovedas, and my humidity is at a steady 63% RH. I was told it should be around 69 to 72 RH, is that true?
