+Caitlin Miller +Caitlin Miller I feel your pain. I always have to fill every roll, which makes the process much more stressful, trying to write, produce, direct, and cast. Since I'm only 14 I do not have a ton of time, or the ability to drive which makes networking quite difficult.
I FELL YA All my friends are not interested about moviemaking Seriously, the vids i make are all me. I act in the same scene as two characters and use ADOBE AE .
hi bro .. I like your videos too .. and could you help me .. my trouble to making flim is I have a perfect script and actors but I lack in transform my script what I imagined in my head to screen .. (note : sorry for my English ,it's not good enough )
+RANGUSKI Turn your script into a storyboard. If you cant draw then find somebody who likes to draw give it to him/her and see what they come up with. I find working from a storyboard saves a lot of time and confusion on set ;)
Mr. Taco Sorry you feel that way. I comment on channels I watch and enjoy just like other people. Simon just happens to make some of the best film related videos in my opinion so giving positive criticism in a negativity filled world (you just proved that existed) is always good.
chaseontwowheels I'm a new RU-vidr and I'm trying to get started. I'm already making videos but most of my audience is from my school. It would be cool if I had people watch my videos that I didn't know. I love photography and just bought my new camera and equipment for $500. It would be really nice if some of you could help me out. Thanks.
In Germany we have an Film Award, where you dont have so much time. You have 99 hours to produce a 99 second Short film. So there is not much time for writing a script or drive through a city to search locations. Whatever its a lots of fun to run against time. :)
when I was sent that script, I had already been posting videos on this channel for two years. so my best advice to put yourself out there is to start uploading stuff to RU-vid on a regular basis!
A film is a lot like a living person. It lives and has a healthy life if it's parts work together well, but it can die painfully if 1 or more major elements just don't work out, and you have to rush to fix it before it dies. After all this, after the film is completely finished, you can sit down and remember the good times and memories.
I love hearing your stories. It's different from reading about filmmaking in a textbook, this is real and personal. I've been watching basically all of your videos the past week and I love your channel so much. I just ended my semester of a film class and I miss the creative environment, this kind of makes up for it. It makes me want to keep making movies. Also, the production value of your channel is insane. Great job! I've been recommending you to everyone I know who's into filmmaking.
Thanks for all your tips in filmmaking. Making films has always been my favorite hobby and I'm taking film classes with my friends that are in digital film.
This is definitely one of my favorite episodes in a while! Can't wait to see the crazy journey of making this short film from it's origin to completion!
addicted to watching your videos! It's really inspiring to see somebody so close to my age being able to create such professional work, your going to do so well. Keep up the amazing work and keep on inspiring people
I just want to say, I am a huge fan of DSLRguide! Ive been watching this show for a very long time and it helped my productions in so many ways. When it comes down to techniques, this show is the first thing I look at, (Before FILM RIOT lol) Because we have the same equipment. It's amazing to see the process you have made. I can see that your videos are getting better. Hope to share an Oscar stage with you one day lol. Keep up the great work! - Shawn D ;-)
i am from India and finds it amazing that when you take second bite of that apple in the last shot its still white. also planning to make a short film and had the idea that it will be lot of planning and hard work but didn't really know how much, you gave me a framework to think and plan accordingly. thanks for making this.
Quick Q: So how would you make a budget for casting and all this? do you pay them to audition or how does the business go? or do you list in the ad that's its a ''free'' volunteering film?? Thanks a lot.
This was so good Simon! It was go awesome to see how the project came together all the way from a random script to an official short film with cast and crew. I also enjoyed some of the creative cinematography choices you broke down in the video. Keep up the great work, loved the short film! Also, can't wait for that Amazon video! ;-)
It s not that much that apple thing that I cannot stand anymore here ( beside the fact that the video content is good ) it the noise !!!!! Come on !! Why don't you add some chewing and a " burp " or something to make sure we got it ?
This was a wonderful video! Thanks for making something about pre-production. I've been looking for videos and tutorials on that topic. Also, congrats so much on the short film! It looked amazing. I hope you have a great time making many more films in the future. You're totally cut out for it. Thanks for all your inspiration. I really love your videos.
Wow- that's some great stuff, and not just for creating a film (for me anyway!). I've always struggled with a paralyzingly toxic cocktail of ADHD, perfectionism and procrastination; COUNTLESS "brilliant" ideas in a multitude of hobbies, house projects, business/money making ideas or inventions- all for naught. I've literally watched at LEAST a dozen of my original ideas sit idle until... someone else recognized it and made a fortune. Hell, even this comment all I really wanted to say was: I procrastinate too, thanks for reminding me how much lists help. That's it- but you got my life's story instead. Ah well.
Thanks for sharing and the useful tips! Just uploaded my own first Drama short film and it was so much fun to produce but also a challenge. You learn so much in the process...Keep up the good work!
hi Simon tanx for the video .. I'm also trying to complete my 1st short flim but so many odd things shows up against me .. my prblm is to gather my crew together becoz they committed for friendship & my budget is null .. I gather all my crew together after 50 days from 1st day shoot .. you can't believe this . that a heavy rainfall ruined my shoot .. then I looked up on sky and ask to god .. " why me ??" ..
Love these videos Simon. Currently my way of battling the deadly "procrastination" bug is by setting deadlines for myself and for my channel its the pressure of doing daily uploads. I've been doing it for over a week now and its not as hard as I thought it would be. My next objective is to start working on short films.
Hey! I have been watching your videos because I wanted to use it for my vlogs but along the way I got inspired and decided to film my own short film. A very short at that. Will share it to you within a week!
If you were in Manchester then you should of come on down to the School of Art and talked to some of the filmmakers here. Great way to meet new filmmakers who don't expect to get payed for work and just want to make films.
Even though I love making short films, I like to create other content too! This video was great as the techniques you explained can be applied to a lot of other types of videos!
Thanks, +Simon. We were working on our new project and I was pretty jumbled between how I should line the whole process. This video helped me to sort things in a proper manner. Keep working :)
Can you do a video on equipment that is lesser known about in the filmmaking process that is essential to filmmaking? Like sound mics, lights, camera stabilizers (you did one in that already I know), or any other equipment that an amateur filmmaker might not know about? Thanks man, your videos have really helped me out.
Oh man, so good. What amazes me is how you know all the different parts necessary for making a film. Your script is for free, your casting room looks shabby but the way you handle it is just like it is (I think) with the big studios out there. Kudos, and thank you for sharing.
One of my own rules. If you have to change the story because you can't get in somewhere. Find somewhere else and do not change the story. If you can't afford it. You aren't ready to tell that story. And if it's a good enough story. It's not worth changing. No matter what.
Hey man I have been watching you for quite a while now I was just wondering I have written my own script and I’m and acting and work for eka agent as an extra but I was just wondering how can I make this film I have written into a reality to help me get main parts in film and tv?
