Say it louder for the people in the back!!! I think you can draw inspiration from others, but if you struggle with idolizing someone else's journey or copying, then I definitely suggest not looking at all. xo E
The hardest part of getting started for me was just getting my mindset right, I was always afraid of what others would think, afraid to fail, or afraid I wouldn't be good enough. Im here to tell you JUST START, your biggest critic is yourself! 💕
Ollie Marie I definitely agree. I’m about to graduate from college and have always wanted to make a channel but I was so afraid what people would think or that people wouldn’t watch my videos. I’m going to try to do better
I just hit my main RU-vid goal! MONETIZATION I’m just a few months. I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD DO IT! But this info is definitely on point & im STILL learning!! Thanks for being who you are! I’ve been rocking with you since day ONE!!! Love you Erin
we dont know each other but I just wanted you to know how proud of you! I've always wanted to start and I've given up a few times and I appreciate you sharing the fact that you succeeded. thank you for pushing me and congrats ! ❤
Erin omg I just started a channel a month ago and already got an audience of 500 people😍Thank you so much for all the tips and inspiration! Wishing luck to all small and upcoming RU-vidr🌟
The thing that is holding me back is my perfectionism. I'm watching all the RU-vid channels on how to get started and not moving forward with doing it. I'm building up the courage today, and am planning on filming my first video this weekend. Thanks for the great information, so glad I subscribed!
The hardest part about starting a RU-vid channel for me was getting over the fear. And even though I have post a few videos, I still have to over come gear and thinking everything has to be perfect to film.
The hardest part for me starting youtube so far is trying to make sure that I’m relaxed and being myself when I record and also being scared that no one will watch or subscribe
I am right there with you. But I just always remind myself that it is possible no one will watch, which is actually a good thing! You can be yourself and play around because there are not a lot of eyes on you. I got more used to it by posting multiple times a day on snap and insta stories to my close friends. Once I was confident in that, I expanded to everyone on snap and insta. After I felt confident about that I started making youtube videos and doing lives! :) The more you do it, the better it will be. Start making videos that you know you will never post and that will help raise your comfort and charisma on camera
The hardest part of starting a channel is talking in front of a camera. I've done dozens of public speaking in college and I can barely talk to myself in front of a camera. I get so embarrassed to even when no one is watching but the idea that someone will watch it and think it's boring or sucks at talking makes me insecure.
CHELCEA girl I completely agree with you. I tried to do RU-vid for so many years literally since 2012. Now in 2020 is when I’m just getting the courage to put myself out there and start my RU-vid channel with quick and effective workouts. I hope you can check them out💕💕
Watching yourself has to be the most intimidating thing however it is the best way to relate to what your viewers will experience and make the necessary changes if need be. The practice makes perfect. I also just finally decided to be more serious about my Chanel. We can do this 🙌🏻❤️
I was the same some stick a photo of a person they love the most on their camera. Some filmed silly videos. like evening meals they where cooking. For that night just for them to build confidence.
Omg god bless you so much!! This is SO well detailed and straight to the point and you are talking to us as if we are BEGINNERS! Slow and CLEARLY! So many people make it so complicated. You don't understand how much this has really helped me. You're so genuine. I wish you all the abundance that life has to offer. Love you Erin!
My biggest struggle right now is FINDING MY NICHE cause I have such a complex interest in things that it doesn’t fit in one niche, which then leads to me inconsistently posting cause I don’t know what to post to fit such a broad spectrum of things.
same girl, but yes. What are the main 3 things your heart feels content in creating, and you feel has value to others? For me, its 1) Fashion 2) Baking/Cooking/Food 3) Vlogs/Filmmaking. Maybe this helps you!!
@@arselamallick3248never thought to actually narrow it down to 3 general topics... not sure right now but thanks for commenting this definitely does help :)
@@lucytwila i have never actually thought to narrow it down to 3 general topics but i feel like people who come for one thing will be annoyed if you post about another.
@@Swazii_k thank you! I appreciate it! I subscribed to you as well hopefully I'll learn something about photography from you cause I'm horrible at taking pictures lol
I've thought about starting a RU-vid for years. I'm finally going to face my fears and start my RU-vid Channel this year! I'm really excited to see everything come to life. Thanks for the helpful tips! Just subscribed.
I FINALLY started my channel after literally yearsssss of contemplating, overthinking etc and Erin your channel really helped push me. I now have 4 videos up, only posting once a week right now but I’ll increase soon. I’m growing slowly but I’m already happy with it. And I’m actually loving doing videos!!! Shoutout to all my fellow small RU-vidrs 🤍🤍🤍🤍
I cannot wait to see the outcome of the work I’m putting in. 🥰❤️ I honestly believe that everyone journey is different and they should embrace it.

I'm still editing my first video lol but, the hardest part to me is learning new editing skills to make sure my content is up to par with other creators!
Yes, it's like going back to school. I found it helps to just make "practice footage" and do all sorts of silly stuff with it to get used to the different features in the editors.
Oh my that’s what i did when talking about my hair journey. I don’t give 2 craps about the topic but kept making videos because those are the ones that got me to those benchmarks for monetizing my channel. I haven’t posted anything since July 2019 and I’m currently working on rebranding my channel for what i really like to do.
Just something for everyone to know - When you start, your first few videos will be a bit crap and you'll probably act different on camera compared to how you act in real life. You probabskr won't realise you're doing it when you are but when you look back you'll realise. But as you film more videos you'll get more comfortable in front of the camera. Everyone goes through it. Don't compare your now to some big youtubers now bc I'm sure if you scroll all the way back to their first video you'll see they started out the same way. It takes time to become comfortable. Just talk to you camera or phone as if it's your friend not as if you're talking to a camera. Also another thing, I feel like a lot of these videos mention "or you could film on your iPhone" but that doesn't mean you can't film on your Android phone. I think most people forget androids exist bc iPhone is the majority which isn't true. So honestly android or iPhone as long as you have good lighting you'll be fine. Lighting is more key than a camera etc. I recommend just buying a ring light from eBay. They're really cheap. You don't need a big one. Just get a small one
I started my channel at the end of 2019 and I'm so glad I did! I'm still working on not worrying about what people that I know will think about it but I've been making fitness/lifestyle videos and I love it so much! I recently invested in a new camera so I'm excited to test it out and make better quality videos :) Thank you so much for sharing this video
I’m a new mom so that’s definitely my niche but I loveeee making videos about relationships, mukbang videos, and soooo much more. I was stuck at 40 subscribers for a while and now I’m at about 170. I am so happy and just proud of myself because I honestly didn’t think I’d be able to keep up with it! Thank you for the awesome tips Erin😊
The hardest part has been finding my niche, i tried to start and forced myself to talk about my work stuff and I wanted to do waaaaaay too many things at once. Also I didn't do research such as watching videos like this. Got some basics wrong but I am happy that I after my first attempt and taking time to educate myself, I now know what I did wrong and have answered to it. Thank you Erin
When you spoke about niching that really helped me! I just started up my youtube channel and I already felt like I was putting myself in a corner. Now I know I can try to be a little more experimental and creative with my content!
I feel like of all the people who give youtube advice, you give the most actionable advice on things that could actually help. Really great info 👍❤ I'll definitely be implementing this!
And wooooowwwww...I gave up on social media years ago looking for genuine purpose in it, then I get led on a 3 week intense journey from all the right RU-vidrs. What irony. I've learned ways to express my passion and enjoy it and it all ended on today, when I realized, I'm not even trying to be rich, just get recognized for my art and this young lady and her fans makes me purchase all my equipment today..with 100% confidence. Thank you all. I needed all this!! See you all soon! Special thanks Erin!
When you said 37 subscribers I was shocked and felt like you were talking to me because I have currently have that many subs haha. Thankyou for these tips! x
Still watching, but I’ve watched sooo many vids to improve my channel and I’ve still learned a few things so far. Thank you for your grace and sharing your knowledge. ❤️❤️
I just started my channel last week & was feeling pretty discouraged because I also feel like I am so late in the game, but your video really gave me hope!! Also it's crazy that I fall right into your target persona, so obviously you're doing something right;) I really enjoyed this, thank you so much
I’m on the road to starting my channel, I made a RU-vid banner all by myself and I already have a list of 50+ ideas to film. I have no videos yet but I already have 38 subscribers! I’m so exited to start this journey and entertain people. Thank you Erin for your advice and motivation in in this video ❤️💪🏽
The hardest part for me is finding a niche. I know for a fact that I do not want to stick to one subject. I was thinking about having different segments on my page and just have fun. I think that's chiming in on creating different audience personas. This video is very helpful, thank you Erin!🤓
This video popped up right on time for me as I just started my RU-vid channel 2 weeks ago. You gave me so much more motivation to continue full speed ahead. Thank you so much for sharing your experience & giving us some tips & encouragement. I also loved seeing all the supportive comments in the comment section. Great video! Best of luck to everyone starting a new channel!
Love this! 🙌🏼 I finally took the plunge two months ago so fingers crossed it does okay! So far so good and worst case I learned from it and I still love what I do! Thanks for the insight, girl! 🥰
I just started my RU-vid channel a month ago. For so long I was so nervous about negative feedback, but so far it's been the complete opposite. I'm happy I chose faith over fear. 💜
I kept finding different excuses to not start my channel in the last two years and then two months ago I found your channel and now here I am just having uploaded my second video...Thank you, Erin! 🌸❤️🌸
Definitely trying to take my channel to the next level and take it more seriously. I literally just uploaded a video on it as well. You're def one of the inspo's I always head to, aside from others, to make sure I am doing this right haha. Nice video! Thanks for this, more inspo when needed! --- And yes your iPhone video did help me out as well for my vlog style videos!
I've been looking for content like this to help me relaunch my channel. 11+ years ago when I started my channel in order to document my Sisterlocks journey it didn't seem so daunting. I remember thinking "who wants to REALLY watch me talk to myself about haircare struggles?" Now, I'm thinking, "how do I create content that will stand out in a world where everyone is a personal trainer?" However, I really want to share my "behind the hustle" not only becoming a personal trainer, but owning my own studio, cooking videos, client transformations, and just everyday life. Your video was very informative and gave me a much-needed sense of direction. Now, I'm going to watch it again just in case I missed something vital the first time!
As a scientist who brings science to Beauty it has been a challenge honestly… But I’m trucking along I’m staying positive I do love the subscribers that I do have and the relationships I am able to build. I think what has been working for me is to literally ask them what they want for me and that gives me my videos that I end up posting… Which is what they want to see I think that’s the key
My biggest fears of starting (or I should say resuming) my channel is lack of consistency, not knowing what I'm doing, and being judged. I just figured out that I would like to do gaming and travel videos but I worry about what family and friends will think of me. However, I know if I don't at least try, I will be very disappointed in myself. Thank you Erin for the pep talk and information!!
Yasssss did! So glad I found your channel! My biggest fear of REALLY getting my channel started, was thinking I wasn’t qualified to speak and do the niche that I’m in. The devil has a way of making you feel inadequate and doubt yourself. NOT ANYMORE! I’m pushing out content and I feel more liberated as ever! Another thing that I’ve found to be helpful to receive feedback on my videos is joining FB groups that contain likeminded women/mom’s that have the same goals that I do and just want to LEARN! Thank you so much for this video - I’ll be sharing with my network 💖🥰
I wanted to start a channel about 5 years ago and the fear kept me back! But so glad I ran into your videos and videos like yours, Really gave me the push I needed. :)
Wow!!! Where have you been my entire RU-vid life? (6 months) I have been listening to others and still will, but I had to subscribe here. Love your content, energy, and value I just received from the 3 videos I just watched. I'm hooked. Great Job!
Ain’t “only” nothing! I rock with all 70 of my subscribers 😂😭 This video was dope, especially the subscribe links and end cards. Could you do a review video where you watch a few small youtubers and give brief input?
I recently decided that I am going to start a business, and I have been doing so much research on the best strategies on how to do so. The one thing that was holding me back was fear of not succeeding! I am putting all that fear and anxiety into putting forth my best effort to use my passions to serve others through creating content and starting a business to uplift Black voices. There is no reason why I cannot use my skills and passions to provide for myself and help others along the way. Erin, thank you for this video and the content that you are putting out, it is motivating seeing another Black woman use her gifts to help lead others to success!
The hardest part is just starting. You are your hardest critic.. you worry that people won’t watch, that you’ll be boring, that you sound bad. I just bought a ring light. I’d like to hope that it forces me to starts
Hi Erin! Love your content. Started my RU-vid channel (been wanting to do this forever) and launched This week. I noticed you mentioned tube buddy as being helpful in this video but mentioned in another that it’s not that helpful. I’m considering using it and I’m not quite sure which advise to go by.
For me the biggest fear to start my channel was myself. I was afraid what ppl might think and maybe this is not for me. I started my channel a month ago, I have 34 babes who subscribed to my channel and show me so much love. This was a great decision to start and I am a consistency queen, I do my 2 videos a week and I see growth already. Thank you for creating this video, you gave me great tips 🥰🥰🥰
I am here because I am retired and not a person to just sit in front of a TV. You Tube as become another one of my hobbies, I do a lot of things around my home myself and though I could share on RU-vid to people like me and to keep my mind busy, wish you all great success.
I restarted my channel about 3 months ago, and I’ve gained over 130 new subs! I’ve been uploading everyday in April, but I’m struggling with video ideas...
LifeWithLyss people love the cleaning with me videos. Maybe compartmentalize ur house. Instead of cleaning the whole house you can make 1 video doing the living room another video doing the bathroom another the kitchen etc
I've been a RU-vidr for about a month now, and this video was very helpful! As i'm reading the comments, I'm seeing so many relatable posts.Thank you for not only providing the great content but also for hosting this awesome/supportive comment community.
Thank you so much Erin! You are so intelligent! Because of all of your advice...I HAVE FINALLY STARTED MY OWN RU-vid CHANNEL! I can’t wait to keep learning new tips from you! ❤️❤️❤️
I think the hardest part about starting a youtube channel is choosing a niche and figuring out how to adjust as you grow and change as a person. The videos I wanted to post 2 years ago are different from what I want to post now. I think we evolve and enter into different seasons of our life, which makes it hard when your trying to make your channel reflect you! Thank you for the advice! 💖 - Impress Williams
My biggest mistake when I started was wanting to be perfect, wanting to say the right thing and being scared of how my message would be received...but as time goes by I became comfortable and believed in my content. Starting RU-vid is not easy, consistancy is required! Love what you do💚
I have wanted to start a RU-vid channel since 2012 and I always let fear get the best of me. Today, I changed that! Posted my first video and excited for the journey. Thank you for the tips they are very helpful! 💕
@@meesmary Yep! I upgraded to it from iMovie late last year and I've never looked back. LOL...I'm probably barely using all of the features it offers, but it definitely helped improve and speed up my video editing. 😂
The hardest part of this journey for me is the technical stuff. It’s a joy to learn new skills. My noodle is appreciative. I look forward to interviewing you for my channel down the road. Blessings
You are so inspiring I have wanted to start a channel for years, actually got the courage to start a few years back then got discouraged due to the lack of quality gear. Thank you so much for letting me know now is my time.
I half way set up my RU-vid channel in 2018, but only played around with it. I guess I was in a bad head space and have been for some time. You have given me motivation to start I watched some many videos like yours and haven't felt good about it til now. Thank You for your inspiration 🤗
I'm literally on the Verge of starting soon. This video is very helpful. It seems with SOME RU-vidrs when you watch their videos and like them and subscribe. They have this thought that you want to steal content, but truly you can admire another RU-vidr and have a channel of your own without copying 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Love this video! I’ve been wanting to start RU-vid for a couple of years now. I finally created one a few days ago. I really had to overcome my fears and fulfil my dreams. I always talked myself out of it scared of what people will think or say. I’m so happy I did, although my first video was a working progress but can’t stop thinking about improve my next videos. My friends on RU-vid have been so supportive and although I still have some anxiety but it’s so worth it!! 💕
Loved this video! You are truly walking in your purpose. We want to build our brand and start a channel, but have seen so many bad examples on RU-vid that we knew we needed to get trained. My biggest fear is posting a video that is poorly shot with poor audio quality. Your information is so on point!! I couldn't subscribe fast enough!! Looking forward to growing in knowledge with you, sis!
Thank you for all the information. I’m working on starting my channel by the end of the week. Waiting for my microphone. He hardest part is getting started and worry what other people would say or think about your channel. I’m still excited.
This is awesome, thank you soooo much!! At first it was “ I don’t have a good camera set up or enough space to record”, now I’m saying “my camera light and flexible phone holder is coming Tuesday, and my space is set... I’m going for it!”
This gave me the courage to finally start my channel. Don't know what I was scared of, now my little family is growing by the day and I couldn't be any happier. I deal with lifestyle content for any curious person that would check my channel
I started my RU-vid channel a week ago and I thank you so much for these great tipps!! I just changed so many things on my channel, I wrote so many descriptions on my videos. I didn't watch your full video yet, but this is my current update 😃just stopped the video to change things on my channel, lets see whats coming 🙌🏽
This is great advice. It can get very discouraging when you dont see growth or people watching your videos. But listening to youtubers advice, who are where u want to be, definitely helps push us to keep going.💖
I started my RU-vid channel 3 weeks ago and just made it to 100 subs! that's a win for me lol. So much to learn but I am thankful for all the knowledge I am getting for you Erin! Thank you
I LOVED this video, very helpful! I started RU-vid back in 2014 in college and was pretty consistent and that’s where I began to see the most growth. I then went through a whole depression, not sure what my “purpose” is, all to realize today that this is one medium where I’m supposed to be. For me, the hardest thing about my channel is imposter syndrome. I’m starting to infuse more astrology into my beauty content and I feared that because i’m not a “professional” it wouldn’t resonate with everyone. but to hell with it, it’s fine stick with somebody.😛 lol
Thank you so much for sharing this information Erin! I've been doing my research through your channel for what to know in the start of my own. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The HARDEST part about starting my own channel for many years now has been SHIFTING MY MINDSET. I have been so fearful of what others would think, say or do. But, all in all, I am very excited to begin this new journey for not only those individuals who will be positively impacted BUT for my own personal development too!!!!
I totally agree with the Niche option that you made. When I started my channel I was told to have a Niche and focus on it and I didn't like that. So I decided to do me and see where I might possibly gravitate towards. And now I'm slowly finding my Niche which is "informative and educational content" in South Africa there's a lot of us who are not online and I've found my "Getting paid online" videos getting the most views and my "relationship opinions" getting a bit more as well... Thank you. Love you...
The hardest part for me was worrying about what people think about me, how I look, what my friends and family think. I started RU-vid two years ago and I only posted a few videos before I got self-conscious. I regret letting fear deter me away from what I really wanted to do but never the less. I'm back and I'm ready to pick up with where I left off minus the fear. 🙌🙌
This is so refreshing!!! I’ve been watching all these videos and everyone is recommending $1200 cameras to start with and I’m like absolutely not! Not yet sis. Lolol
You inspired me to start blogging my sewing business. I’m working on a ready to wear label. Watched your video yesterday, bought my camera today. thank you 💚
Not new but still so much I need to learn.Started 2 yrs ago and still feel stressed if I need to just stay within a niche cause i love creating variety. Struggling to grow a bit so I love you videos so helpful 💚🧡💛
