Your lessons are much more worth, than the 3 cafes is have payed today ☕☕☕ I just want to say thank you for your work and chanel ! One of the best lessons i have ever had 👍
This video has given me the confidence to have a go with no dots. I stupidly watched this after 7pm when my neighbours kids are in bed, so I'll have to wait until morning to get my sax out. Pfft! This is the very best of some superb sax channels and I'm avidly watching your videos. Thank you so much for your incredible work, and enjoy the three coffees I just bought!
I used to play the drums so I'm not too bad at the beat. This was my first go at improv and loved it. Didn't want the backing track to stop 👌😁. Brilliant. However my daughter just shouted at me to stop singing 🙈
Been improv-ing for 10 yrs now, and what a great way to start afresh!!! Sheet music's the boogaboo, but always loved improvising, playing whatever comes to mind....thanks so much for the great ideas....
You're an Angel Jaime! You are so incredibly helpful. I believe you to be a testament to the genuine benevolence in people. And I'm sure most people would agree that watch your videos. Your charismatic attitude is infectious and very powerful. You help so many people, it's kinda hard to fathom, the goodness you give, and how it brightens the world. You words right back at chya' "Kudos to you for being just so compassionate and giving".
Fantastic beginning improv workshop Jaime! Logical sequencing with immediate application of each of the ideas. A great introduction to improvisation for any instrumentalist.
this is amazing, it's like you're in my head and you know exactly what I'm dying to work on!! I've lost the chance for so many solos growing up (i was that scared kid in 5th and 6th grade jazz band) for lack of "playing off script"... I actually recently started to write my own music to see if that will get me better with improv and i've been working more and more chord progressions... but yes, rhythm is lost when i'm not sure how to compliment the song with the "right" improv! I can't wait for your new class coming out, this video was AMAZING! thanks again
As a beginner I really appreciated the "simplicity" of the content which came across as logical and attainable. Would love to know if there are any guidelines to improvisation if you're trying to liven up a simple melody.
Thanks. That was awesome, explained in a way that was very simple and made me think about how I need to simplify what I am playing most of the time and not sacrifice my timing. I did want to ask a random question to a pro who plays with other musicians. I have issues in both bands I play in with not being able to hear myself. I play in a covers band and guitars and drums dominate😁. When you perform what is your set up? In ear monitors? Does your sax you go through front of house? Do you use a pedal to control tone, volume etc. Sorry the question is off topic, but you are great with advice and always answer which I appreciate. Cheers. Greg
Hey Greg. Definitely sax goes through FOH. In the old days you used to have a monitor wedge to hear yourself, but now it’s mostly in ears for my gigs. It’s quite high tech though, so more grass roots gigs are still monitors. If you haven’t got a monitor try using a Perspex reflector. You definitely want to use ear plugs as well. It feels weird, but your hearing will get trashed in those bands so don’t ruin your health.
Thanks Jamie. I’m not to the pro level, have checked into in ear system but it is very expensive. So wedge it is. I use ear plugs at practice but do find them difficult at gigs - just harder to hear the mix. Thanks for your advice. Cheers.
Great job teaching the basics and your enthusiasm is fantastic. Thanks for you teaching the next generation of players. You could open this up to trumpet and trombone players as well since you are giving the concert pitches too. Regards Robin
I learn better when the teacher uses a puppet friend like Dr Wally's Ollie puppet. Could you please use a puppet to teach us all how to improvise? Thanks. Your channel SLAPS!
Jamie, you are a hero! Great way to teach. I am a bloody beginner and I appreciate your work. And : thanks for the humor you bring in... so rare in theses days in good old germany where I live. Keep the good work up.
That was great. So happy you actually teach and allow us to practice what we learn. I play jazz guitar, but your music lesson taught me so much. Looking forward to the next one in order. Enjoy the coffee.
Great video Jamie! Finally I start to understand the improvisation. The best video and the best advice is about the home note and 2 tones above and 2 under. This is probably the most important information, because until now I tried to play in the key but wit the home note at beginning and then naturally around the 3rd note of pentatonic scale. After you video I am now confused from the scales, when to play major, when minor and when blues (and which) scale? 😀
Fab and strtaightforward instruction, thanks Jamie. Today's lesson shows me I must listen to the great sax players. I want to play rhythm and blues...anything but Jazz - it's not my thing. Jamie can you recommend the sax players that play this type of music. Thanks
Ann - try Hank Crawford an alto player. Corazon is a good place to start especially after Jamie's lesson. Simple lines - at least at the start! and a great groove. He was musical director for Ray Charles. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y5pb8xcwfrU.html
@@GetYourSaxTogether @@GetYourSaxTogether Thank you for taking the time to send this. Much appreciated. Will listen avidly. Well, will hijack son's Spotify account:)
Hey Jamie! I just have a little request. I’m starting to get a handle on improvising and studying Ornithology at the moment and transcribing bebop for the first time. While I can think through the changes quite well, I’ve noticed on recordings that my technique is pretty sloppy sounding. I scoop too much which makes me sound out of tune so am working on that. I’d love to see a video showing what a sloppy player sounds like playing a line and what you do as a pro to make it sound so crisp and even. Perhaps you already have something on that? Thanks!
Yeh I’ve done bits like that before. Your best bet is to watch my Lives. Go to my live playlist and watch the viewers video submissions. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hKKwEr5pvGc.html
Hey Jamie, great vid! Looking forward to the next course coming up! On a side note, I'm thinking of purchasing a Yamaha YAS 280 to replace my faulty saxophone. I just wondered if you thought this is a good choice for a beginner (
I`m still here Jamie , where can I get the backing music to keep practising ? I couldn't find the coffee emoji so you will have to have buy some chips 🍟 :-)
Btw - I see you’ve unsubscribed from GYST? Is that right? You need to be subscribed to get the info on the course so you might want to go to www.getyoursaxtogether.com and sign up? 👍🏻
Living in a townhouse my problem is mental in that being too loud for the neighbors and not sounding good in the first place,is there a device I can put on the sax to quiet it?can probably practice more confident
I just don't get it - the first few times I picked up the sax I could sustain notes easy... Just picked it up for practice again today and couldn't sustain a single note.
@@GetYourSaxTogether youve piqued my interest. What do you mean by expanding what I can hear? Do you mean like accessing different genres of music or ear training (modes, scales, intervals)
