This is the way I journal: the prompt I go with is usually: how are you, really? And then thoughts just come up, maybe I'm doing fine but have some things on my mind, I'd write them down. Maybe I'm feeling super sad, then I'm writing down why I feel sad etc. BUT the best thing is (and the thing I would recommend to everyone is): journal when you're feeling GOOD! And then you write WHY you're feeling so good. For me most times it's because I've been spending time with friends, I've been dancing, I've been cooking some new stuff that turned out great, etc. Just write it all down. And the thing is!!! Whenever you're sad, you flip back to the happy pages and you get reminded about the stuff that makes you feel good! And you're reminded of the positive energy you had when you were writing the happy stuff. The thing is: you really believe it because it is YOUR handwriting and you're reminded of YOUR feelings and the fact that you CAN be happy and how good it feels! Really, It's awesome!
Yes, I love journaling! - I go through all the ideas you talked about, date, place and I start writing 🙂 - It helped me to deal with grief, thoughts, problems, but also set on paper happy times, beautiful days or funny events in a chronicle/essay style or even just few words 🙂 - I write down things happening in the world, opinions, things big or small happening in my life, memories, things I'm enjoying. - I journal also about projects I have, dreams. Even the dreams I have at night, as often they're film like and very curious 😄 - When things get too long, I title them, so I don't forget the main focus. - I apologise to my journal if I write after a long time 😅 - It's lovely to read back what I wrote in the past. It's like going through a photo album and it's like looking at me in a different perspective, making me realise how I change in time 🙂 - I also like to think that someone in the future will find my journals. A niece or nephew maybe or even an archaeologist, who'll wonder about how much language and things have changed and how weird the authour could be at times 😉 Yes, I definately love journaling ☺💖 Edit: it's so lovely to see the approach of everyone to journaling. Be safe people and take care of yourself and of your mind 💖
I usually journal when I’m reading my Bible. I love storytelling on what happened to a particular story that I read and then process it by journaling. I also write down thoughts that bothers me and the things I want to deal with. It helps, really.
I’ve been journaling for about 11 years. I actually journal the same way you do. Journaling is the absolute best thing I ever started doing for myself. Discovered your page to journaling prompts and such. I am so grateful that I found your channel today. Thank you so much for all your videos...I’ve watched 3 in a row now. I can see my life getting better and better. 💕
This is wonderful........ Many people don't 'write' (literally!) anything anymore, everyone is on mobile phones, laptops, I-pads etc. Children aren't focusing on actually learning to write at school as much as they used to as they do a lot on computer. Bring back the art of 'writing' I say! Best wishes from the UK. X
Sadly I agree (italian here). I even know some children (with no learning difficulties whatsoever) who can only write in capital letters and don't know a thing about calligraphy, just cos at school they didn't bother too much and it was enough to read. Very sad indeed.
@@Uapa500 ...... it is very sad isn't it. I even see children being allowed to right abbreviations of words (like when people text) rather than the full word itself. The respective Education Boards need to turn it around before 'writing' becomes a thing of the past!
I could never get into journaling until I tried Future Self Journaling. It was the style that really resonated with me. Figuring out the person I want to be in the future and what I could do to become that person here and now. It’s my favorite!
Megan I have been with you since the beginning when you use to make your monthly favorites videos years ago. Every time I squeal, my husband knows my Canadian girlfriend has posted a new video. This couldn't have come at a better time. I am a 3rd grade teacher and my job has been effected greatly from covid to the point of great depression and having to get on antidepressants. However, I finally said f it and put my self care first and what has been helping me the most has been journaling at night before bed to check on my feelings, my body and what I need. So thank you for all the journaling ideas.
Hey there - it makes me so happy to hear that you've been around for so many years! I remember those favourites videos. I haven't done one in a long time! I'm so sorry to hear that your job has been so effected by covid. It sounds like it's been really stressful for you. I love your 'f it' attitude though - yes!!! Self care is so important. Good for you for working towards turning things around for yourself. I'm glad to hear that journaling has been a part of that! xx
One way I like to journal is by writing a letter to an imaginary friend, sort of like "Dear Diary". The imaginary friend is non-judgemental, but she listens and helps me look at things in a new way.
Loved this video ❤️ i really like writing. About stream of consciouness: i also find that usually, while i'm doing it, i write something and i surprise myself, like "what?? Is that, the problem?" or "it was this that i was worried about??". I aknowledge things WHILE i'm writing 😆 really eye-opening and useful
I recently began embarking on a journey of self care, something I found was considerably lacking in my life. Journaling/Gratitude are practices I have used for a few years and would like to take them to the next level. Thank you Meghan! Downloading your Journal Prompts for further reflection.
I woke up today thinking « I have to try journaling to help me feel better but where to start ? ». First, i found a couple of apps (since I want to write on a digital medium) and now your video popped up in my RU-vid notifications. Thank you so much Meghan 🙏 Beside that, the content in this video is absolutely perfect. It shows off you are not an amateur in journaling haha.
I had a writing(journaling) challenge with those who speak English as a second language. We had a blast and journaling can be good for language learning :) Thank you for sharing those tips!
Thank you I enjoyed the video I will start journaling, gave me the tools. I have so many thoughts that are so negative about myself. Food is always on my mind Thank you.
Oh my gosh. It's been months since I last wrote in my personal journal! It's a blessing to have seen this today, Megan. Thank you for inspiring me to write again. Yes to journaling!
i love journaling! i have 2. One for messy planning, brainstorming, and then I put everything I figured out into my planner. My other journal is one I put whatever in. I will either just write whatever, journal before or after meditation, ask myself questions. I always put the date and time too :3
Oh Meghan I can't tell you how happy I am that you put up this video today! I spoke to my therapist this afternoon about starting to journal and I was really excited after our call and then I realised I had no idea how or where to start. I got a bit disillusioned, but only a few hours later there's your video - yay! ❤️ Congrats on your engagement and I hope you and your family are safe and well x
Yay! What perfect timing! Well I'm glad to hear that you plan on getting started with it. Journaling is such a wonderful activity :) And thank you very much, we're excited!
I used to Journal from 5th to 10th (2014) grade then I stopped journaling. Now, it's 2021, I feel like journaling again, so let's see, where it takes me.
I feel so excited when I start a new notebook. Something about a nice clean page looks so appealing. Although I never write feelings down, mostly just things to remember and workouts. I have to try this out.
I journal for some years, and also do not have a rule of write frequency. Excelent content, it really feels good to listen more things to do and write, Love the questions, I will take some time to answer it. Some will not be the first time, but that's the amazing of it, we could answer them many times in different times of our lives and have always value. Thank you Meghan!
Just to let you know the diagram you were talking about is called a Venn diagram with the two circles. I personally love using diagrams like a mind map. I love drawing out quotes I like too. I actually don't write lots in my journal. Love the ideas thank you meghan.
I absolutely loved this video! It’s so nice to see a bit more of your personality and see/hear you speak about something that you’re so passionate about journaling💕
You all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
I love this!! I am actually in the process of making a "vision board journal"!! (I don't know if that's a thing, but it's going to be my thing. LOL) I have a 5 subject notebook and I am using the dividers to glue pictures of things that reflect the person I want to be and things I want in my life. Still cutting pictures and words out of magazines, but I am getting there! LOL I am excited to start journaling and I want to try my best to make it a frequent thing for myself. Thank you as always for sharing with us and for your quality content!!!! :) Be well and stay safe.
I love the idea of a 'vision board journal' - so creative! I love writing out my visions for things too every now and then. It really helps us tune in to our wants and needs :) Thanks for watching Sandra!
When i start watching about minimalism, my simple notebook is always on me wherever I go,, especially this days of quarantine i really spend most of my time journaling. Im a fan ms. Mhegan from the Philippines❤️❤️❤️
@@erljimenez8824 New York lol but live in Florida right now. Three of my grandparents are from Puerto Rico. My paternal grandfather was adopted but I dont know if he originally had the last name or was given to him by the adopted parents
@@priscillajimenez27 really so glad that youve reach me through this content.. its awesome that i have the same family name puerto rico and new york❤️❤️❤️
I enjoyed this video very much. I used to be a very dedicated journal writer but life has been busy and crazy lately! So this was a great reminder that I need to get back to it. I used to keep a little notebook in my purse and something would happen in the day and I would think: I need to write about that! So I’d jot down a few notes in my notebook. I still do this but now in my “notes” on my smartphone. I always think I’ll remember stuff to write about...but I don’t. Thanks again for this wonderful video today! ❤️
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! I love the idea of having a little notebook in your purse. Although, like you, I often use the notes function on my phone xx
When I first started my healing journey I would write down Everytime I had a panic attack, why I was feeling anxious or what I was thinking about at the time.
Hi Meghan! Your journaling journey is very relatable. I love how you said that there's no need to journal every single day. I love that there's no pressure in doing this practice. But may I ask if there are days that you did not like what you write just after writing it? Have you ever felt ripping off a page of your journal? Love from the Philippines! ❤️
Hey Sam! That's a great question. When I journal I'm usually just writing out what's on my mind that day. I don't judge or dislike my entries since they're just an expression of how I'm feeling or what's going on in my life. However, when I've written poetry, I've definitely crossed out words/ripped out pages because that usually involves more judgment :P But that is sometimes part of the creative process :)
These are really useful. Shall try the drawing / image bit. It's interesting . I do use the stream of consciousness and really helps me , since I think a lot too. Usually do it on loose pages, that I revisit in a few weeks, note down the insights and burn the pages as symbolic of releasing the negative stuff that may have surfaced. Burning usually seems to lift a heavy burden off my chest each time, especially if I'm going through tough times :)
Ohh burning pages? I love that idea, although I don't think I've ever done it. But it sounds like such a good way to get rid of the heavy stuff that we've written down and "letting it go" so to speak :)
I love journaling and my style is really similar to yours ❤️ Meghan, do you keep all your old journals and planners? As a minimalist I sometimes struggle with this as I do not want to have so much stuff but also I love to keep the ones that are really meaningful to me 😊
Hey there - yes I do keep all my old journals. I have them stored in a box :) Every once in a while I'll read through old ones, although I haven't in a long time.
What do you do with a completed journal? Do you recycle it? What if there is personal information in it? Ive always wanted to try journaling but dont know what to do when the journal is full.
Wow! I just discovered you from this video, and there are a lot of good ideas here! Thank you so much for sharing! Your video have helped me choose how I want to journal, I’ve been toying with that idea for quite a while now. Now’s the time to dive in!
So I just read them. Only answered in my head, but had a good little cry. They were so good. The one that stumped me most is what I wish my day looked like from morning to night.... I have two little girls and honestly I just haven’t had the mental capacity to even think about that for the past 6 years.... thank you for the questions. I will go over them again... and probably yearly. -Lindsay
Thank you, great tips, I also use some of them and they are really helpful, but will definitely try some new ones now. I am curious to know what you do with your old journals :) I have a few of those and still haven't found a proper way to store them :D
This is so opening. I dont know why, because it feels so logic, and i know about these things because of bullet journaling. However as a designer/illustator the whole design myself-thing can take from my mind work. So maybe a bullet journal and a just write journal would be nice haha because my mind is thinking a lot lately and i am getting scared of what its thinking about haha ^^;
yay i've been needing new journal prompts! i journal every morning after i meditate!! i love having a morning routine that focuses on my mind, body, and soul (i workout in the am ... thats where i get the body part hehe)
Journaling in the morning is SUCH a nice time to do it! I love putting on nice music in the morning sometimes, doing some stretching/meditation, and journaling :)
I use the app "Journey"; I prefer to type than to write on paper. Also, I mainly use the brain dump method, because I have a lot going on in my head and I write to let everything out. I usually try to write once a week, and found recently that I had trouble sleeping if I did it just before bed (too many things in my head, not the best thing to think about them all just before sleeping). So I'm trying to find a better time to journal, but haven't yet.
