Froogle, the way you used this aircraft and showed it to the audience actually forced me to purchase it about a minute after watching this video! Thanks for making the videos froogle, great effort!!

You're a terrible tease... a rather brilliant one too. All this video, and you leave us staring at the 'impossible' runway with no cathartic release. I need to see your takeoff. Hearing froogle cope with this is essential to my mood now. It will amuse me. Keep it up, love your stuff.

Fantastic vid as usual! One little nitpicky thing though; DISC on the power levers actually stands for discing, not disconnect. It's the flattest blade angle and usually the furthest back that you'll pull the power levers while taxiing, as it will slow you down considerably without having to go into reverse. Looking forward to the next one.

Hey froogle, mind if i teach you a little tidbit? Okay, the control lock's primary purpose is not to prevent you from applying too much power. Its primary purpose is to lock the ailerons in the neutral position so wind gusts doesnt bang the ailerons around and cause damage, it is on the power levers to prevent you from taking off with it engaged.

In case noone noticed/commented: "out of sync" throttles are not by some error but a feature of dash-8, to help with a turn (while taxiing)!! Cheers!!! Oh, of course, GREAT video, again; bravo Fröögle :) (now I see someone mentioned ... nevertheless, once more, don't hurt :))

The pitot static switch is hidden behind the yoke. You can switch views or click the base of the yoke to remove it and you will see the button on the bottom edge of the panel. As for condition levers you can put them at full or 900 for what is called "quiet taxi"

Hey Pete, little note, the throttle position is not "Disconnect", it is just "Disc" as in "Propeller Disc".

Not sure if I've answered your comment already (since it appears to be a repeat of a few other comments, some of which I did answer). I did this to add some levity to what would otherwise be quite a deep and dry topic - flows and procedures. It was requested by a subscriber on Facebook. I get that some of you don't want this so I won't do it again.

For the people confused about the difference between a Dash-8 and a Q400, the Dash-8 was the deHavilland Canada name for the aircraft. When DHC was bought by Bombardier, the designation was changed to the Q400.

@Sierraalpha211 11 лет назад
Hey Froogle, you had some problems with your "sync" of the propellers. That's normal, that the right engine needs more rps, because youre doing a left turn! Everything okay. Looking forward to your takeoff. See ya!

I have to go with Froogle on this, Every checklist that I have seen, on the Q400 both from Majestic, and other sources, including airlines, has a specific check in the After Start checklist for Condition Levers set to MAX.

Froogle, perfect timing as I just got Dash 8 yesterday. Great video, bring on the rest of them for the Dash 8. I went to your Facebook page and tried to leave a comment but it didn't take. Yes, I would like to get your Aivlasoft flow/checklist file and I would also like to have your EZdok file for this aircraft. I didn't find them there yet so I am guessing you haven't had time to post them yet. Looking forward to them soon. Thanks

@frooglesim
@frooglesim 11 лет назад
Oh dude! Of course it is. Absolutely this is the wrong airport for this aircraft. But the focus here was not on that, it was on flows and procedures. A facebook subscriber had asked for this airport and I was happy to use it if only to add some levity to what would normally be a very very deep and dry topic. That's why it's there. The procedures however are, as far as I know so far, good.

not with an OAT over 5c, in the upper FL's the q400 can reach yes perhaps. Ive flown the Dash 8 in northern canada and encountered ice a few times only when in clouds and cold temps

As always, Pete, your videos are high quality and realisctic, and I don't wan't to be all negative and shit, but there was a major flaw in this video, that was unrealistic - Q400's are WAY to big for St. Barths. In real life a Twin Otter would've flown from St. Barths to St. Maarten and then the Q400 would fly those "party goers" to Miami. :)

Hey froogle, fantastic channel you have created. In my opinion the best fsx channel out there. Just a quick question, I've bought the PMDG 737NGX with fs2crew and learnt most of it with the manual as assistance, your videos inspired me to buy it. So with that, I'm thinking of buying this as it looks great, do you think it'll be satisfying after the flawless and sophisticated PMDG or do you think I should stick on the more complex models? Your response would be great thanks

Perhaps it is not needed in the tropics if there are no birds and such there, but a Embraer 190 captain told me that they normally always keep it on to make the window more flexible so that it can take hits without shattering as easily. Better spend some money on new heaters than get a bird through the window on a commercial plane like this. But I am not 100% certain, that's just what the captain told me :) Eric

Good video, but on the power levers I think that "DISC" means flat prop pitch (i.e.like a disc, what other turboprops call "beta range"), not disconnect. But an easy enough mistake to make since DISC has that meaning several places in various cockpits. :-)

Just a little thing you might want to know concerning the window heating. Pilots normally keep the window heat on as it makes the windows more flexible, which again makes it more resistant to possible bird strikes. Great video! Eric

You always need the Wind-shield heaters on. They prevent the windows from cracking when you are cruising at altitude, because of the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the aircraft. Of course this is not simulated in FSX, but flying with the heaters off for some time would definitely damage the windshield. Think of your bog standard very small crack on the windshield of your car. In the summer, if the A/C is turned on in your car, the cracks will get bigger a lot faster. Same thing applies here, only more extreme.
@zagan1
@zagan1 10 лет назад
are you sure as a real pilot who is flying this plane for real in the rain, you only need de-iceing for the dash8 at 5c and below otherwise you don't need it. also this plane doesn't have any window wipers in real world and it uses the wind to clear the water on the window. he only turns on the window shields so it doesn't fog up not to stop it cracking.
@ParisianZee
@ParisianZee 10 лет назад
That's exactly what I said, I don't talk about de icing, just about windshield heating, which prevents fog and potential cracks at altitude.
@ParisianZee
@ParisianZee 10 лет назад
Also, I'm sorry to question your post sir but this plane does have window wipers and the anti ice activation conditions are far more complex than what you have posted: anti ice should be turned on whenever icing conditions are present, which is to say clouds, humidity, rain or ice with a total air temperature between -10 and 10 degrees Celsius.
@altstiff
@altstiff 10 лет назад
zagan1 As you have been told, the window heaters are on all the time. It makes the windows less brittle during flights at altitude and less likely to crack due to the cold outside.
@zagan1
@zagan1 10 лет назад
I wasn't talking about a FSX plane I'm talking about a real life Dash 8 Q400 being flown from cape town to some other place. The captain records his flights, like mraviation101 and also owns the airline in south Africa and also services airports in the US. he's taxiing and has text saying the Dash8 doesn't have window wipers as the rain are making it really hard to see, and but maybe it's an option? it also has text saying you don't require de-icing until it's below 5c or 40f and he only turns on the defogging when on the runway then turns it off when climbing as it's not needed. I guess the A/C covers any sort of fogging. He takes off in a thunder storm you can see the lighting and he climbs at 5,000 ft a min, to get above the clouds as quick as he can. I've seen this whole video and while I don't disagree with any of it, I'm guessing the beta tester is just doing what ever horizon airlines does which is fine but as the beta tester also says not all airlines will have the same procedures. Plus horizon airlines are in a snowy area I think so things will change maybe that's why they leave the defogging on as they don't need to push the A/C as hard thus save some fuel over the flight as well.

hello frooglesim. Thank you very much. Your video about dash help me a lot and today I have no problem to flight this aircraft. I only have one problem. A big problem to me. I am doing always a good final approach with appropriated speed and angle, and touching the runway smoothly as required ( i guess). However my TD (touchdown rate) have been positive value. With all others aircraft I have the TD is negative and close zero means a better land (eg. -100). Do you have any idea what i am doing wrong?
