HOW TO STAY LOOSE WHEN YOU DRAW

Mad Charcoal

One of the biggest challenges for beginner OR perfectionist artists is the ability to loosen up and flow while working so that the attention to detail or the worry of making a mistake does not get in the way of the creative process. Hopefully my perspective shows some ways to forward that skill.

I never was much of an artist in fact I could barely draw a good stick figure or model of something. But your artwork is just something else. It makes me want to become an artist and inspires me. It's unique and different and I love it. You make Great works of art!

During the pandemic I did a bunch of tutorials on drawing facial structure and practiced for months. I can do realistic graphite drawings. I'm now just trying charcoal and pan pastels and knowing facial structure helps immensely, but I'm nowhere as loose as this. Mine tend to appear flat, but I'm getting there. Thanks for the tutorial. I learned quite a bit.

Love your work! Thanks for sharing. Have been trying to get looser. Charcoal is great and you've shown a great way to start. I work on eyes a lot because they're so expressive. And that can come alter. Thank you!

Hi. New to charcoal drawing. Wanting to know if u have video or will do a video that creates an expressionist background to the actual face of portrait. You're a great inspiration for someone who has spent whole artistic life doing hyper realism plants and birds. Thanks

Do you use a fixative when they are finished? Your drawings are gorgeous, accurate in the essentials of proportion and value, without getting bogged down drawing every hair strand.
@todayipaint4667

I would hardly call this accurate in proportion and value, let's not invent the meaning of accuracy.
@7Earthsky
@7Earthsky 2 года назад
@@todayipaint4667 It's not accurate in angle either...Another very important fundamental.

The real challenge for me though is achieving or keeping the likeness or the ability to capture your model's unique features while keeping your portrait drawing "loose". It is not that difficult to draw "generic" heads in a "loose" style in my opinion. Capturing likeness in a loose style is something entirely different. No offense, your drawing is really great but it does not resemble your model.
