Worked well for us. Did three 1 pounders at 14 minutes steamed. Perfect. Love the little lobsters.

Do you use a Maryland Old Bay or either J.O. seasoning ?
@wallytuber

So when I steam crabs I use apple cider vinegar and a stout beer instead of water and I cover the crabs with old bay. Is that a bad thing to do with lobster?

That's cool ! but I live on the Great Lakes . Only lobsters I see look like Crayfish . Same method but smaller pot , less water. But Steaming makes them taste Better ..Releases all there waist in the bottom of the pot. Instead of soaking in it. Nice Job ! {no salt needed}

why two inches of water? How many cups or quarts? Who measures water in inches?

OK. At home, they are asking me why you are boiling one lobster, and steaming the 5 on top of it. Does salt matter for the other 5?
@Mainelobsternow
@Mainelobsternow 10 месяцев назад
No! The goal is to replicate the same salinity of sea water! Only way you would add more salt is if you add more water!

Totally unnecessary to add salt to the water or put a steaming basket in there. You should add corn on the bottom of the pot, and then the lobsters on top
@Mochi-sn3ud

I am going to put my redskin potatoes in the water 1st to cook then add the corn and lobster. Love this idea. Thank you so much! What a brilliant idea.)

Steaming is faster than boiling?
@Mainelobsternow
@Mainelobsternow 5 лет назад
The timing varies on the size of the lobster! For more specific timings check out this link www.mainelobsternow.com/cooking/how-to-cook-live-lobster#steam_lobster

Lobster should only be boiled in actual ocean salt water, otherwise steamed... But You should dunk the lobster in ice water briefly to stop the cooking process.. I'm not crazy about her cook time... But steamed usually taste better than boiled... Never overcook....
@daniellepeters1100
@daniellepeters1100 4 года назад
Steaming any type of seafood especially a lobster is not always faster then boiling the person that replied about the size of it doesn't always affect the time.. So yes by logically taking a bigger lobster is gonna take more time over all to fully cook it of course.. But depending on how strong of a steamer you have depends on how fast it takes to fully cook.. So if you have a lower pressure steamer setup boiling would be the overall faster cooking method.. But if you have a higher pressure steamer then steaming would be the faster method

@@robtierney5653 I think as the video says, placing lobster on ice rather than dunking in ice water after cooking is better. Preserves more of the flavor.

I never heard someone say "2 inches" of water instead of saying "cups" so it doesn't mean nothing. Also she doesn't mention how much salt. She needs to learn the right cooking terms.
@RynoKenny

Amount of water depends on the diameter of your pot. For example, a cup of water in a pint glass rises much higher than in her massive pot. The 2 inch guidance ensures you use the correct amount of water regardless of the volume of your pot.

I forget where I put my 2 foot tall pot. She said she likes to remove the bands “ because it make the water bitter”. I’m leaving the bands on because I don’t want bitter water.

You should kill them before putting them in a pot just because you are Squamish doesn’t mean that they can’t feel pain. either kill them humanely or don’t cook them at all
