Leash pulling is not only a massive issue when trying to walk your dog but it can potentially put you and your dog in a dangerous situation. You will see dogs pull their owners into the street with traffic, you will see dogs pull their owners so hard they fall and the dog gets loose chasing something and these can result in your dog, yourself, another dog or another person to be injured. Not only that when a dog is pulling hard their collar can do actual physical permanent damage to their esophagus. I hope this video helps you out if you have a dog that likes to pull. You may have to step up your training tools from a slip lead to a prong collar to better communicate with them what they want. Nice Fenrir equipment! Had to pause to comment, though: That nifty "trick" of starting a heel-walk from the base position off with the LEFT foot - most people have no idea about this. See, Jason, you always say your're not a dog trainer - but you surely have all it takes to be one. You'd be an amazing balanced trainer.

To stop resource guarding do not feed from a bowl. Hand feed all meals. Once you put the food bowl on the floor, it’s the dogs food and some dogs will protect that food. By hand feeding the dog really never takes possession of the food, so there is nothing to protect or guard.

@@briananthony1143 if your dog is resource guarding toys. He/she can no longer have the toys. Start working on some obedience training and make sure to teach both a leave it and an out command. Once your dog is solid on those cues, you can re-introduce the toys.

If collars with a snap buckle don't work well w your dog, try collars with belt buckles (where you adjust through the holes). I've had leather ones since my dogs were puppies and they're still going strong. Thank you Jason for demonstrating balanced dog training by demonstrating how different tools are used to improve communication. It's odd to live in a world where these tools are considered inhumane while it's "humane" for dogs lose their lives due disobedience

That is awesome Totally getting my mastiff a slip lead. Just for more tools But he doesn’t pull anymore Also it not only injures you’re dog but it can injure the owner. And it’s not respectful for the dog to be a puller. Love you’re videos

Jason I just wanted to say is I like the way you demonstrated how you use the slip leed leash really smart on your behalf. Have you ever used a leather leash before you get more control and better feedback from your dog using a leather leash. Give it a try that's the way I did with my Doberman Winston. And the prong collar works perfectly fine if used correctly. Great vlog 👍

Ya know the double lead? I use that for my dog when she has a harness on, so it's connected to the front and back of the hardness I make the lead short and walk her on my left side with one hand when we're on the street. If she can't go off the lead but there is a grassy area, close to a road for example, I take the front lead off and she can explore a little bit, without pulling me. Then in the park I take her lead off all together but she has a muzzle attached to her side that I can put on for times when she needs it.

I use the halti training style lead with our Labrador ALL the time - if he's not holding it himself to give him a job to do, I mostly have it hands free round my waist. Early in the morning before the traffic, he's a total off lead dog anyway, the lead is mostly to make motorists feel secure since they dont know us. We get a lot of 'aww's or smiles from motorists when he's 'walking himself' though. I also tend to attract lost or stray doggies so I can have 2 dogs (or more) on it. He's very strong and quite intelligent for a Labrador, so it's always attached to his harness which doesnt have a handle, so I use a clip-on handle which lets me have a handle on my dog! And because its removable I can use that on the halti lead especially if i have more than 1 dog on it. When he's off lead the handle is on the harness so I can grab him at a moments notice - I am never not paying attention to him, and he is 99% paying attention to me - 99% because he is a labrador and always looking for food - I do wish people would put unwanted sandwiches, burgers or pizza in a bin, not a hedge!!

If you use reward based training you would never need to use aversive collars such as the e or prong collar. All modern up to date behaviorists do not recommend their use .

Hi mate, watch all your videos here in the uk, love them basically use every method of yours that I can. My dogs 10 months coming along nicely but he’s struggling to listen when I say no. I correct him instantly with either a tap on the chest as you show in your video or stopping him doing whatever it is he’s doing, but he just keeps going back once I’ve stopped him, I.e if he’s jumping up on someone or am stopping him from playing to calm him down or eating grass an mud in the garden, he will stop but then carry on or as soon as I move to go over to correct him because I don’t want to say no until I am next to him to correct him he just runs away then comes back to do it again 😂 just wondering if you could just do a quick video on it at some point, or does he know what i want an he’s just being a teenager now an not listening stage.

From what I’ve noticed from watching these videos, what I think you should try is after you correct him, when he listens you reward him. Whether it’s with affection or food or whatever works. And it seems like your doing this but you have to have sound and touch. So you say no or you growl or whatever sound you choose and you correct at the same time. Go see the puppy video he made recently for an example. Im just repeating what I’ve seen in his videos and Cesar Millan’s videos but im no expert. I don’t even have a dog.

If your imforming people on why it’s bad to use normal collars on dogs that pull than why are you telling people that you should use a slip lead that chokes them? And if your concerned about that then why would you ever use a prong or correction collar?

I assume that loose leash walking began when Bruce was a puppy. If you push a dog with your hand, he will resist. The same with a tight leash: the dog will resist and pull. A loose leash means "I trust you."

We've been using the prong collar on our baby since 3 Mo. We're going on 1 Year this month and he loves to pull more than he should. I get he's a working dog. How do you turn it off? He wants to pull! It's his job... Seems like anyway.

You have been using it incorrectly. Doesn’t matter what kind of leash you use. Before the dog gets to the end of the leash, you say Easy and tug on it gently. Feed the puppy as you walk next to your knee and praise. That way they never get a chance to pull. Not sure why you would let a Corso pull on your leash for 9 months.

When he starts pulling turn around and walk the other way, if he starts pulling turn around again. After a few times he'll get the message.

I've always hated the unfair reasoning that is, let's GIVE someone who already has a successful monetized YT channel a bunch of expensive FREE stuff to SELL to his viewers... I'm a for the underdog kind of gal. I personally would never BUY something from someone who got it free who already has money who'll get a commission off my purchase... But that's just me.
