This literally came at an opportune time, as I recover from a horrible bout of d&v. I was away in an hotel, where I asked for flat cola, which I had heard could replace electrolytes. In addition I took sips of water. After 24 hours things were calmed down and I managed to eat stewed peeled unsweetened eating apples. This a remedy I picked up years ago - any good??! Now after 24 hours I feel I can cautiously eat more. I didn’t get raised heartbeat or dry mouth, but I did have headache, which a friend put down to dehydration, but I’m not sure about that? I’m 72, so I was concerned about dehydration. I didn’t know if it was food poisoning or an infection, but thanks to you, I’m thinking it was a virus.

Slippery elm bark and psyllium husk supplements seem to help me very quickly. I assume the slippery elm bark helps with the irritation and the psyllium husk absorbs some water in the intestines... regardless, it's always worked for me and it's worked within hours.

I have suffered from IBS (diarrhoea and stomach cramps) for around 7 yrs. I take 2 Loperamide, 3 times a day....even that doesn't always control it and I'll need to take extra! Eating chilly (Thai style food) seems to help rather than trigger diarrhoea. However, when I have a bout of IBS, I need to eat white bread. It makes me miserable. 😢 I cant drink coffee or tea when I'm not home as I will have a bowel movement within 40 minutes. I have needed major bowel surgery (5 yrs ago) and further surgery a couple of months ago....3 yrs over due. I do drink mostly water. In order to control when and how often I need to open my bowels, I eat once a day only.

I am doing some weight training, for a few years now. A few weeks ago I had severe muscle pain in arms and legs for a few days in a row. After a sudden bout of diarrhea all the muscle pain disappeared. I can’t figure out why muscle pain and diarrhea are connected.

@@billswooooft8373 habve you tried probiotics? Or fermented food? IBS Is thought to be possibly caused by gut bacteria being stripped away makong it harder to digest certain foods. Maybe probiotic foods before meals would help ease the symptoms a bit?

You need to drink bone broth. Boiling big animal bones. Don't eat anything fried avoid fast food sugar and milk. Generally mine is mild but I watch what I eat. I also cannot eat too much meat but if I do I choose chicken or ham. 😅🎉

Can anyone elaborate on what the best foods are to bring the gut back to better health after such a virus. I always have it daily especially when I eat sweet bread ,ice cream milk, meaning one is allergic, or you have your remove your gallbladder, and your enzymes no working properly, or you need to have a colon canoscopy, to see your large intestines for other diseases, as for me I have only half intestines large and small intestines too were removed, chronic gastrointestinal abstraction, no fresh skin fruits or vegetables, I take electrolytes potassium, magnesium. But if you have infection antibiotics like ameximolin, pancillin, talk to your doctor, I do, but tha is me , have you ever had intestinal surgery. ?

That sounds similar to dry fasting. Dry fasting is no food or water and at the end of the fast you will have good bowel movement. Hiking also got your bowels moving.

Last year I ended up in ER after taking Imodium. I had worse upper quadrant cramp’s than when I had cramping from my necrotic gallbladder that had to be removed immediately. There is no way to reduce the pain because it’s gas. My ER doc told me never to take Imodium again.

When I use Imodium I take only half of one tablet. I cut the tablet in half. If I followed the Imodium instructions to take 2 with the first bout of diarrhea and 1 for each subsequent loose bowel movement, I would eventually end up in the ER, as well.

Oh my!!!! The good doctor is so helpful!!! I am so thankful he is an expert in the diarrhea and our defications. This morning I had a massive bowel movement. Brown and stunk very bad. As I was wiping I had a severe cramp in my buttock region and then had a second full bowel movement. It was lighter brown and stunk very bad and also felt extremely hot on its way out. I am extremely worried. I have never had anything like this before. Can the good doctor please help me? I did eat creamed corn yesterday. Could this be the cause? I need help! I am playing in our retirement village scrabble tournament this weekend and can’t afford any bowel issues. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Thanks you I am in my second day of he big D. I had three explosions yesterday and 1 overnight and 7 explosions today. I am drinking Electrolít serum if I continue tomorrow I will seek medical attention. So far I don't have any other symptoms apart of the huge toilet explosions.

I saved the best for last! I remember in 1994 when working on damaged river levees. I started having a problem with Afternoon diarrhea. Then one day I didn't have that problem. What I finally figured out what I did different, was that I drank something else. We would go to the Tavern at high-noon to eat. I had been drinking Lemonade, but that day I drank a soda. So, ever since I have hardly had a drop of Lemonade. Kinda like in the 1990s when I ate some corn and it immediately made me sick. I treat it the same way! That's strange how things you like can turn against you! I heard about a fellow who ended up with an allergy to beer! face-turquoise-covering-eyes🤢

See if you are sensitive to gluten. If you are, stay away from gluten because it could be a great problem, not a simple sensitivity, at the long run it could make us really sick with chronic diseases. ETC...

Capsaicin is the king of molecules. 🌶️🌶️🌶️ What always plays havoc with my digestion is chippy-bought fish & chips. From a decent restaurant, it’s nowhere near as bag, but that probably has something to do with the accompanying vegetables and alcohol. Chilli, no problem. Curry, no problem. My wife and I both had diarrhoea for weeks after getting a second does of covid last year.

Massive handfuls of activated charcoal is best, only eat plain rice and burnt toast. Take soda water with lime juice is possible and minerals + salt. 2 years in India and Afghanistan taught me.

Severe dehydration and chronic underhydration also causes chronic diarrhea, and if untreated, hospitalization, especially in the elderly who refuse to drink the required 8-10 glasses (2 - 3L) of water daily. Which, particularly in elderly women, then leads to UTI's and crazy, nasty, behavior. So, if anyone out there is struggling with an elderly parent or relative who refuses to drink adequate water 2-3L, look out for diarrhea and UTI's, because hospitalization is next.

What about diahorrea that lasts for months? Colon cancer? I believe this is a very important sign?

My husband and I get volatile diarrhea after eating breakfast food when we eat out. Guaranteed to happen within 20-30 minutes. But when we fix eggs, bacon, etc at home, we are both fine. Why is this?
