mbyrd6713, it is a topic that I wish we didn't need as much as we do in our society. It probably does need to go viral. Thanks for watching.

The reason I'm still with my abusive husband is because it wasn't his fault... it's his childhood that made him abusive and I saw how his dad treats his mom up to now... abusive still. So I am trying to change my husband because he doesn't want to see a counselor. These videos save not only marriages but children's future. Thank you all for saving lives. May God bless you more. Amen

@@LiveOnPurposeTV Thank you for the compliments... that means a whole lot to me. Your compliments assure me that I am not to blame for his choices and reactions. Although it takes 2 to tango and thst nobody's perfect, it helps to know from a doctor like you that I have the right attitude somehow. You are awesome. Thank you for making this world better than you found it. I love you and your videos. God bless you more.

Wow. I never heard of such solution not to take problems personally but to focus on third party which is the past or childhood. I will try this. The possible problem is use the childhood stories against our spouse which discourages opening up.
@LiveOnPurposeTV

Virgie Mata, if your spouse is opposed to opening up to you, he may need a coach or counselor to speak with. It can do wonders, despite the stigma.

inserter400, Sometimes you can't change another person without first changing yourself so start there. If you want to find out what we offer at Live On Purpose, you can talk to one of our coaches at www.drpauljenkins.com/breakthroughcall

The key is thinking more about your wife or husband. The wife spends her life on family such as bringing up the annoying kids, doing housework all the time, taking care of all family. The husband works hard to earn more money to let his family live a good life. If they have different opinions on something, they should take a step back. In the end , there will be smile on their face.

What if your spouse dont wanna open about their childhood/ parents or upbringing ?
@LiveOnPurposeTV

Cooking like a star, you can only control yourself, not others. If there is something serious, you might see if they will see a therapist who can help them to make sense of the feelings and events. Most people close down because they don't have the words to express what happened or know how to deal with the emotions that surface. It is easier to keep it separate.

There may be a child of chaos but regardless of that even being raised in a healthy home relationships can struggle because of sin & people lean toward pride & selfishness and these become habitual. There may be issues & no bad childhood to talk about. Plus going back to childhood about every issue sounds exhausting for husband & wife.

amywjn, there will always be problems and things we need to overcome. Hopefully we can process what has happened and learn new ways to deal with events so we have better outcomes.

@@LiveOnPurposeTV Dr. Jenkins thank you for your response. ☺️ I am trying your 95/5 technique, & will be looking into some of your other 9 techniques, working on what I can do by myself for our marriage. When we try to work on the marriage together, it works for just a bit then he falls back into anger habits & apparently my ways of dealing with them don’t work. Thanks for helping all of us. I am working my way through all your pertinent videos which are simple, practical & actionable. 👍🏼👍🏼

How does one handle having these conversations (even in depth) with spouse, only to have some of those characteristics (negative) from the parents, be used as insults onto me. When talking about these stories years ago, we grew closer, now we’re back in the chaos and most of the negative characteristics my mother had are being thrown in my face. “You’re just like your mother...you just want a warm body and not love...you just want to be taken care of without giving back...” when the truth is I give as much as I can with what I have currently and am working on finding creative ways to help more. But there really is some very Deep and dark experiences in my husband to the point that he will often change any narrative to suite his point in an argument. He’s not bad or cruel but he becomes cruel and will say the most heartbreaking things (for me personally) and after I begin to take action to leave (Bc that’s often the first one) he threatens by saying “if you leave that’s it for good!” Etc.
