In this video, I explain how to stop overthinking. I shot the video in 2020 during my stay as a Buddhist monk in Thailand.
In the night, we process many of our thoughts and activities we experienced during the day. That's why you want to practice these techniques in the morning when you start your practice.
Use breathing technique B3 (breathe normally, focussing on the inside of your nostrils) while staying present and aware. Every time your thoughts take the upper hand, you apply B2 (breathe deeply in and out) or even B1 (breathe vigorously and quickly in and out) to overcome overthinking. Repeat this exercise until your thoughts become more still. This exercise is your first step in breaking the pattern of excessive thinking.

I have had a lot of terrible experiences in my life. I discovered Buddhism a few years ago and it has helped me. I still have trouble with racing thoughts and depression. I still have negativity in my life. It is an ongoing battle within myself, but I am trying. I get up at 3 am everyday to go to work. I will try this technique tomorrow morning. Your videos are informative and I will keep watching....thanks

I've been doing his 3 breathing techniques for months now. They work for me very well. B1 in particular when I'm stressed. Great video.

The most important thing is its not possible to do all this in a room, your location is perfect for doing meditation but in cities this becomes very difficult because there is a lot of things going on side by side

Beloved master, I have a question which made me puzzle for long time, according to budhist teacher's speech, the karma ,when you do some bad karma then bad karmic friut will come to you as quicker than good karmaic fruit. So is that just strategy or law of nature is just like that?

Seems like this is just another method of avoiding/running away from/suppressing your “overthinking”. Why not pay attention to the movement of it instead? Won’t that help you understand **why** you’re overthinking, which is much more important?

Dear Brandon, If you can always observe your thoughts, then you are doing great! It is just that sometimes we are so identified with our thoughts that observing is not yet possible. Using these techniques is then a very effective way to remain mindful and present instead of the mind wandering or resisting. Slowly but surely, these techniques let you detach from strong streams of thought. Once we are detached, observing becomes possible again, and insights will follow. Thanks for the sharp comment!
