Hey Guys! Today's video on "How To Stop Procrastinating Using Your Planner", I'm sharing my top tips on how I beat procrastination using my planner. How do you beat procrastination?! Leave your tips in the comments below:
Fear is the main reason why I procrastinate, especially when it’s a big or serious task that I need to accomplish. The fear of making a mistake or expecting perfection when I’m finished makes me so nervous to the point I’ll avoid the task altogether! Thank you for sharing your tips, maybe I’ll try the reward system 💕💕
I feel this! If I’m unsure of how to do something, what the outcome will be, or if I’m scared of messing up I will procrastinate like it’s my job. Thanks for these tips! I’m already thinking about how I’m going to attack the tasks that keep getting shoved to the next day on my to do list.
Guilty as charged! I would keep myself busy with lots of little easy tasks, and the big ones would get pushed back time and time again and become quite intimidating. It's called 'structured procrastination' and is recognised as a potential sign of anxiety and/or depression. The solution is to break those intimidating tasks (which are really projects) down into manageable parts so you're not put off by the overall size of the whole thing. Little by little!
Rewarding yourself and making your environment work for you are helpful because you have something to look for to (reward) and a changed up environment that will likely contribute to you achieving your goals. Great video
This is me! Combination of procrastinating & being lazy! Not I'm the mood to do chores, keep telling myself in I"ll get to it. Then I'm in this vicious circle of avoidance! Followed by guilt for not getting anything done!
This was such a lovely and concise video that cut straight to the point about issues many of us struggle with. I love how soft and feminine your voice is for us to achieve our dreams. Thanks you sis, buying a new planner was on my today list!💕
I am a huge procrastinator 😫 whenever I have a large and unpleasant task, I always put it off until the very last minute, which makes the task even worse! And since I've got a big task hanging over my head, that makes the little daily tasks burdensome, when it shouldn't be. I like the idea of chipping away at it every day. I have inserted an hourly page into my Happy Planner, and it has helped already 🥳 when the tasks aren't open ended and have a clear time, that sort of structure helps me to get it done more effectively. Great video. Thanks! 🦋🌸👍🥳
When I find myself procrastinating something, mindfulness or meditation helps. Like yesterday, I had so much work to finish but I actually ended up browsing etsy instead. Today when I woke up I did a 10-minute meditation and went straight ahead to the tasks, in between when I started thinking of other things, I found it easier to once more remind myself to be present and bring myself back to my work.
YOU ARE A GODSENT TO ME! You are helping me to make changes in my life and I thank you so very much! Since I have been watching your videos, I have straightened and organized my office. I keep a to-do list but I have been writing a few of my tasks either day to day or week to week. (I am working on that one). I have started a faith planner and have been studying my Bible nightly. I have downloaded "The Organized Money" Budget Planner and will be starting that in July. Slowly but surely, I feel the chaos leaving my life, So THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
I find myself always telling myself that I still have 5 days to do this, then 4, then 3, then 2, then I go into panic mode. That usually leads to a less than satisfying final project because I was rushed. 😔
Have you ever heard of the 5 Dynamics? I recently read about it and it reveals that the group “Explorers” (the rear being Excite, Examine, and Execute) tend to procrastinate. It’s about where your energy naturally is in productivity/workflow. Interesting!
First, I have to say the videos where you write in your common place book are my favorite. You have such useful information to share. Next, depending on my schedule, I will do a power hour where I turn off everything and concentrate on my to do list. Whatever doesn’t get done in that time will get done another day. Finally, when my schedule doesn’t allow for a power hour, I set the timer on the microwave for 30 minutes and do what I can. It is a great feeling looking at my planner and checking off tasks.
If I procrastinate it’s usually the next step’ issue I’ve been really helped by so many of the informative videos on you tube. Ex: I just watched the easiest way to change out the discs on my planner👍
Having to rewrite a task over and over is a great way to notice procrastination. I have 2 items on my list that I keep having to write over and over. I realize now that I am, indeed, procrastinating.
Today I began decluttering my bedroom, took everything out and then went into my daughter's room and completely decluttered her desk, bookshelf and closet! Then I braided her hair and my room looks like a bomb went off.
Doing the laundry and washing dishes is definitely not a description of laziness. Laying back watching TV eating a snack maybe. 😝Thank you for your help! Good advice! ♥️
I know I say this every time, but I'm so glad I found you! This video hit home so hard, especially the tip about distractions. Thank you for sharing as always.
Thank you sooooo much for this! I think tip 3 is the advice I needed most. Designating a specific time and time frame to work on it. This will give me confidence to want to work on it more! ❤️
Alaina, I recently found you and I thoroughly enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them. Would it be possible to get “prints” of the pages you write with your suggestions? I saw another video of you doing the same thing and I think it would be fun to create a planner with these kinds of tips in it. Thanks for what you do. Shirley
I know some of areas I have trouble with -the biggest one is phone calls. After working in a call center I truly dislike the phone. Thank you for the tips, your videos have helped me.
I wish I could say that I got a lot done today, but I am listening to some thing online that is so interesting. But I tried something a little bit different, I scheduled movement breaks every 15 minutes. And I made a list of small tasks to do during those slots, and the order didn’t really matter. The beauty is that I could use that time to listen to the online event while doing most of the tasks. I like the idea of breaking up my sit down computer work with chores that I have already written down, so I don’t just sit there and wonder which of the million things I COULD do is going to be the lucky winner. I just start at the top of the list and go down unless I really want to do one of the others further down the list.
I absolutely love your videos & rewatch them all the time! I would love to know what other RU-vidrs do you watch in this particular subject (finances/budgeting)?
Good morning! When I know I have a task, I break it down into smaller bites and do 20 min. sprints. Things seem to go faster using this pomadoro method.
Unfortunately, I haven't beaten procrastination yet. I should have been practicing for the past three days but haven't. This video has definitely given me some great tips to follow. So, off to practice I go in 30 minute increments. Thanks!
When I've got a task that I keep putting off doing I try and add something else that's enjoyable along with it. For me it's always music. When I need to wash the dishes or hang the washing out to dry I'll put a playlist on and jam out to it. Then it's not something I dread doing because I just think of this next part of my day as my sing a long session instead of the time to do the chores lol I put stuff off mainly because I don't feel like doing it. It's boring, not fun, I want to something I enjoy so I make it enjoyable and then I'll want to do it.
I have been a huge procrastinator for years. I've been putting off writing (future #1 bestselling author) due to feeling I don't measure up like My writing isn't good enough and no one would want to read my stories...I'm so tired of being a scary little fool 😪 and I sincerely hope that my procrastination isn't going to rub off on my 6 year old son
Long-term or frequent apathy also may be a symptom of depression so if someone feels this way, please seek professional medical/mental health assessment.....break the procrastinated task into small tasks so you can chip away at them and see that you're making progress towards the giant task
Absolutely - been there. 'Structured procrastination' is a recognised sign that things are going wrong. You fill your time with little tasks that can be done easily, so you feel like you've kept busy, but the big projects just get put off and put off.
Great tips and explanation of procrastination..but what about small things with only one step, those are the ones I write and rewrite in my planner😕 Thanks
I just watched your Home Planner video. Is there a special way you file your online things, like Evernote or something, or do you just use normal files on your Computer?
Super helpful tips, but not what I expected the video to be about. A better title may be, “Overcome procrastination by using your planner.” I thought you were going to help me stop putting off using my planner 😂😅
I have everyone in my house Out of the house!! Then turn on music. I figured out a while back that unless I need help from someone that I am laser focused of the task at hand
Boredom is the root of my procrastination. I can't deal with routines, so I begin to be tardy to things or try to avoid it. I think I need to have an incentive or reward to motivate me to get things done.
I have gotten lazy as I've aged. I worked - ALOT - before retirement. Worked at a job. Took care of house. Worked in a huge garden and fruit tree orchard. Now I'm tired and lazy.
