I work on garage doors and I like how you expressed several safety factors, unplugging the motor, pulling the release and also making sure to say to NOT remove the bottom fixture! I wanted to tell you the reason why the #1 hinge has 1 "tunnel" while the rest have 2, and that's actually not exclusive to every #1 hinge. Any hinge #2 and above has 2 tunnels, 1 is for the pivot of the hinge as the panels move thru the track radius and the 2nd is the actual roller carrier, they are gradually spaced out further from the door as you go up in numbers. The reason for the spacing is due to your track, the track should gradually move away from the wall as it goes up, that is to avoid panels scrubbing the top header when opening. Since the track moves away from the wall, the hinges step out further to keep the door closer to the wall and maintain a good seal on your door when it is closed. I'm sorry for the long post, you did a great job!

I once set out to fix my friend's malfunctioning garage door and thought the spring wasn't under tension. I loosened a bolt and something whizzed past my head. After shanging my pants, I figured out what happened and put it back together. Future garage door repairs will be done by a pro.

Well, I agree with the Tree Service. The gutters can be covered for $300 and you never ever have to clean them again. Void Leaf filter as they are cheap and you have to pay for labor and milliions in commercials. @@r.joseph8911

About a month ago, I installed these hinges, changed my rollers to nylon with ball bearings, insulated my garage door, and adjusted the spring tension. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Smooth, quiet and NO more rattling and air leaking. Now I'm able to heat my garage EASILY is half the time - and it STAYS heated much easier.

Thanks for the video .I will be purchasing the Green hinges in the future.I noticed on your material list that you need a 7/16 drill bit this might be a little confusing for someone who is not mechanical inclined a bit drills a hole where as a you need a nut driver or as Amazon calls them ( nut setter bit ) to remove the screws .also from my past experiences I would use a nut driver screwdriver and remove the screws by hand,because if you look at the screw when you take it out it has a pilot bit on the end of the screw( this is known as a self drilling screw)and it is a little smaller in diameter than the threaded part of the screw this is so you don't need to drill a pilot hole first then install the screw for the hinge.if you use the impact it can enlarge the hole that the screw came out of.When reinstalling the screws you can use the impact but only down to about 3/4 the length of the screw then tighten the rest of the way by hand with socket& ratchet or a nut driver screwdriver to lessen the chance of the screw stripping the hole in the metal of your goor.Hope this is helpful for someone who is attempting this repair for the first time .

So take it out by hand first with ratchet/driver and put back in with drill/impact 3/4 of the way and finish it off with ratchet/driver again to set it in place snug. Thank you. This helps. I'm waiting on the sleeves to install these with the hinges.

I’m not buying this works for one that spring is too small to put enough tension on your door to push it up against the Seal. Another item that they are labeling greens to make it sound like it’s so much better.

No, as soon as the door starts opening the door pulls off the seals due to track backset.

I would like see the angle on the roller stems when the door is open. Probably will end up wearing the inside edge of those rollers. Also I have been in the business for 30 years, when installed correctly you do not have that kind of slop between the door and the jamb

Good video and a great product. I installed these and it stopped the chatter on windy days. And yes my doors were adjusted correctly. Also helps seal out the dirt and dust that would escape the weather-strip. If your door is compatible and you live in a windy environment these are a no brainer. Plus you are supporting a good grass roots company who delivers great customer service and a great value for the money. Just get ya some!

I just "stumbled" over this video and wanted to comment on the Green Hinges. I'm on my second set, as my first set stayed on the door when I moved! One of my first jobs was to swap out the garage door hinges to Green Hinges on the new location. SO much more quiet and my garage heats up MUCH quicker (AND stays warmer, too!) with one of those small 5,000W electric heaters hung from the ceiling! Think about it. IF you had something as "small" as a 1/8th in. gap (some garage doors have 1/4" or more!) around your 16 ft. door it would be like a 2 in. X 12 in. or more hole in your door. You would seal that hole immediately! But because it's "just a small gap" it often goes unnoticed and not dealt with. One other EZ fix is to use a plumbing snake to pull some of the round foam "Backer Rod" you can buy at virtually any Hardware or Home ctr. store. I like to fish a 1 inch diameter into the bottom seal of my doors. That flexible foam works wonders to restore a good seal to a sacked out lower seal. The flexible nature of the round foam also accomodates sealing around some Ice or Snow collection in winter from car tires "imprinting" snow and ice on the door's threshold.

Slim to none. Spring loaded hinges aren’t needed if your seal is done properly.

The hinges will do a great job at closing that space on both side of the door. Otherwise you would have to readjust the tracks. Then depending on your garage door itself. Some are thick and insulated and some are basically just a thin sheet metal. If you have the cheapo door you can insulate it yourself or buy a kit and install it on the door. Either way you would need to make sure the outside seal is properly adjusted to the door. Mine was worn so I replaced it also. The seal kit is easy to replace. They start out at around $20 but I went all out and bought a better quality one for $41

My doors tracks are installed not perfectly vertical but on a slight ankle only coming into snug contact with the weather stripping in the last six inches or so. Yes over the last twenty years it wears on the paint but I have zero panel flex as compared to your half inch. I think your track is installed wrong. It should not be that loose possibly done deliberately by the original installer to give the door opener an easier time. Again my two doors close like a wedge only sealing at the end of travel. Like you said the numbers one through three are because they are progressively taller hinges creating that taper and only sealing at the end. You need to move your track forward a half inch at least.

I’m absolutely blown away that this video was first on my page today. I just had new doors installed two months ago on my detached heated garage, and this is exactly what I was dealing w this morning. It was crazy windy and the doors were driving me nuts. The gap was a good 1\2 inch from the seal, and that obviously caused a nasty draft. I’m glad I didn’t call company and complain. I thankfully seen this video and will be fixing it myself. To be honest, the noise factor is about the same. They do seem to offer a better seal against mild wind conditions, but in a typical northern Ohio winter storm with 20-50 mph wind gusts, those light springs will be pretty much useless. You did an excellent video, clear and concise, no load useless music!

Below freezing, the seal no longer moves with the door like in summer time. You need some movement in the door for it to operate, but below freezing, the seal turns stiff.

@@80SWoods I work in Canada with minus 40 and do people’s weather strpping every day. If it’s the perfect tightness the door will slide freely even in cold and you can press on the door from outside and not see any light from the inside.

You might to add to this video, measure the stems on your old rollers. I purchased the rollers from your video and the 4-inch stem rollers were too short. After installation I operated to door manually after raising the door all the way, bottom of door came out of the track. My old rollers were 5-inch stems. After a little research I found they come in a 7-inch stem roller.

I was just looking at these hinges online and it said to you the green hinges with gold springs if your door is 12 feet or longer. Won't do much of anything for temp difference. Sounds about identical before and after, but the hinge noise is nothing compared to the cable grind when the door is fully open due to improper installation of the door. I'd be surprised if the force limits on the opener didn't need to be reset as doors aren't supposed to be super tight against the opening. Also the strut on the bottom panel is in the wrong spot.

I ordered Sleeves off of AMAZON, I also Ordered the GREEN HINGE SYSTEM, The Sleeves from AMAZON are too Large in diameter to fit the hole in the GREEN HINGE??? (Yes I'am using the correct Hole). The PVC was installed incorrectly, quickest solution and cheapest solution would be to install PVC closer to the door.

It can be close and still leak air (it deteriorates over time). Mine is leaking (just discovered recently); maybe it worked sufficiently well when it was new.

@@michaels3003 The PVC that’s installed on his door is cheap and was Installed with nails. There’s much better quality PVC that could be used that would make a huge difference. I only say this because I’ve been servicing commercial and residential doors for the last 14 years for one of the biggest Garage door companies in my Province. I Have a little bit of experience.

@@Tw0Staxx , I am going to try brush seals. The door's front surface is not entirely flat and that pushes the vinyl flap away in some areas. If it was installed by the builder, I am 100% sure it was cheap. I am a recent second owner.

@@michaels3003 I live in Montreal, QC, so brush weather stripping wouldn’t fly here with our climate. I’d definitely try and find a local and reputable Garage Door company to buy the right PVC, as some companies sell cheap doors and that comes with cheap weather stripping. Here in Montreal we service “Old Doors”, as it’s an old city. It’s always come down to installing the right PVC and no other product.

I have had the Green Hinges for probably for four years now and I love them and would recommend them to anyone! What I noticed was that in the winter my garage stayed warmer plus in the summer I didn’t have the spiders or bugs in my garage!! Both of my neighbors got them too,when they seen mine. I’ve added 1/8 - 1/2 (depending on the existing gap) foam weather stripping on the frame of the garage so when the door comes down to close it compresses the foam for a tight seal.

So after watching your first video and ranting about the idiot engineers that designed this archaic contraption, I contacted the local installer for 80% of the homes here, he said they are made that way because ground/house movement..ha ! He did say one thing tho, my vertical rails have "fingers" to pre-determine the location of rail to roller distance and mine are almost at 0 ! Thiere is no way wind can push the door in. Once again, I commend you on your efforts and passion to help others !

My door is 16x7 wood with nylon berrings rollers 2 torsion springs And its whisper quite compared to yours. Its also a 3/4hp lift chain driven. You need to oil the tracks rollers roller to hinge points and the torsion springs as well the torsion spring end bearings, if you can replace them with pillow block bearings its a lot better then the stamped steel units. Make sure you get oil in the long shafts end bearings if one hangs up you door will lock up one side damage the lift motor and bend the torsion bar. Cost me a 1000 bucks to get that fixed. Yes contractors are crooks.

Sorry I think this is BS, The garage door seal should flex over 1/2 of movement. If installed correctly. With the spring henge you are pushing the door into the wood frame. Sorry Thats the way I see it.

I would love to design a house with a sun porch that has glass garage doors that can be opened in nice weather, but closed right in inclement weather. I’d grow plants in it, like a greenhouse. There’s a restaurant I’ve been to that was previously a auto service station and they have such doors and also screens that come down and keep the bugs out when the doors are open.

These DO NOT work. they push on the seal so hard they ruin the seal & bind the door. A door needs 1/16 to 1/8" play to compensate for wood swell from moisture. Adjust your adjustable tracks correctly & put on new seal if need be, but 27 years in the buss. Im telling you. Dont fall for these.

But you go listen to someone that “claims” to be a “professional”, cough cough. Kinda odd you bell someone is a professional when you don’t know them. And very odd he went out of his way to try and persuade people to not buy something that works 100%. Proven to work. That must be your other account trying to talk people into not buying a great product for some odd reason. You must sell regular shit hinges.

I will not mount it because the hinge does not comply with the safety regulations for garage doors. I mean finger protection because the panels separate in the upper area where the arch for the horizontal rail is so that the hand fingers can be clamped (see RU-vid: Green Hinge Install on a Hormann Garage Door ) (minutes 17:19)

A lot of the comments are blaming the installer for not making the seal tight enough. You need a little bit of movement in the door for it to operate up and down smoothly without binding. The problem is that below freezing, even a properly installed outside seal turns hard and no longer moves with the the door when it rattles. It maintains it’s shape and doesn’t seal as well. The same for the bottom rubber seal. They all turn almost like plastic and can’t do their job as well as warmer weather when they are soft and pliable.
