I just ordered your root rot solution. I will be repotting in well draining soil as well. At that time should I cut away rotten roots? Is this a necessary step within the solution you gave here to cut away every single rotten root in order to save the plant?

I would remove any roots that are mushy, black, and smelly. This might be a small percentage of the root system but it is necessary to stop the root infection. If all the roots look great, repot into a pot that has multiple holes at the bottom and use fast draining soil. This way, you won't need to worry about overwatering. Water your plant thoroughly after repotting with the root supplement and ensure the water drains really well out the bottom drainage holes. I just received your root supplement today. I had to water 3 days ago before I had the root supplement. Should I go ahead and treat it with the supplement now even though the soil is already pretty saturated? Or wait?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
Hi Pat, yes I would treat with the Root Supplement and wait to water again when the top inches of soil are dry. Ensure your soil is draining the water well and the pot your plant is in has multiple holes on the bottom. Place your plant directly in front of and up against your brightest window. I'm in Australia, is there any of your products available in Australia or are there any products available in Australia that you know of that I can use so I can treat ASAP. Thanks from Aus.

We are not available in AUS as of yet, but if you can find a 3-1-2 NPK fertilizer that is the best plant food for this plant!

Hi Claire - I’ve had my FLF for almost a year now, and while it was BEAUTIFUL when I brought it home, we’ve been struggling ever since. I just ordered the root supplement, and it’s in the sunniest place in my home. Is there anything else I can be doing? We’ve lost 5 leaves in 2 weeks & most of the rest have significant damage. We have about 9 new leaves that have come in over the past couple weeks, but the older leaves still keep dropping. What else can I do to help my poor plant? I’m about ready to find it a home with someone who knows what they’re doing 😭

It sounds like you have a great care routine and if it is directly in front of and up against your brightest window the light should be ok. Is the soil taking in any of the water you are giving it or is it immediately draining out the bottom? Is there any gap between the soil and inner edge of the pot? It could be the full root system is not getting enough water. I recommend posting some photos inside our helpful community to troubleshoot the next steps. facebook.com/groups/fiddleleaffigplantresource

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant it’s taking everything in. I gave it about 4 cups with the root supplement today & it didn’t lose a single drop (it’s pretty big, just soo much damage 😫)

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant hey Claire what does it mean if the leaves are curling up at the ends and some leaves have red dots all over it

is there a simpler alternative that doesn't require as much maintenance? I recently purchased two fiddle leaf figs from two separate nurseries and both are browning at the edges. one more than the other, sadly i now believe maybe i'm cut out for this.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
As long as your pot has drainage holes and the water runs through it well when you water, it should be ok. Leave them in front of and up against your brightest window. Remember when these plants are pulled back even just 1 foot from a window, that is not enough light for them to thrive. I recently purchased an 8 foot FLF tree and the soil was completely compacted. I did the meter and it was dry on the top 2 inches. So I watered it. And now I have yellowing leaves that are turning black. So it definitely has root rot. What alternatives can I do if your products are not available to meet locally? I checked Amazon and I won’t get it until the 24th. My plant may not last that long. I’m freaking out as it’s so beautiful and I don’t wanna lose any more leaves.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
Double check if it is root rot. I would aerate the soil and then thoroughly water your plant so the full root system is getting water and it is draining well out the bottom drainage holes. As long as you have ample drainage, it is hard to overwater your plant. Make sure it is placed directly in front of an up against your brightest window. The spots may be due to lack of light.

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant Thank you! I actually joined the Facebook group and the members helped me out. The leaves dropping were a result of under watering so I watered it thoroughly yesterday and my next watering will be a good soak. But there is good drainage. I don’t understand why the nursery I bought it from would deliver it to me that way. But I have hope that it’s taken care of. The group is awesome and I got an answer within a few minutes of posting.

Clair I bought a small FLF for a dollar at the dollar store about a year ago. It’s actually growing well up until now….it has 7 leaves now when it started with 3 but there is a lot of stem growth in between leaves. I have it potted in a large orchid pot , the plastic type with all the little holes it seems happy. It’s sitting in a west window where I shade it in the afternoon when the the sun is most intense. Any suggestions?

@FiddleLeafFigPlant 4 месяца назад
Hello! Black spots can indicate you have an issue with under or overwatering. Best to make sure you are watering when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water fully soaks the soil and flows well out the bottom drainage holes. Remove any excess. Also, make sure your plant is getting enough light by sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. Even when they are pulled back 1 foot or more from a window, it is not enough light for them to thrive. Happy Growing!
