Great video explained everything perfectly I have to change both belts in my 1.9 and now I feel confident enough to do it my self so thank you for such a great video !!
Just A little alternative suggestion with the power steering pump belt, as it can be a little fiddly trying to get the first bolt, shims and belt together in the right position to begin with, as I've discovered last couple of days, the suggestion is to concentrate first on getting the shims and two sides of the pulley and the bolts in for the first couple of turns, as the bolts are still slack there's stacks of space between the two sides of the pulley to then slot the belt in and then up and over the crank pulley. Just an alternative if you're finding it fiddly.
I've always fitted the alternator belt with the back of the Belt over the top of the water pump It's never made sense to me to run ribs on a flat pully and it also puts more belt around the alternator pulley I've never had any issues doing it this way and the belt lasts longer no belt slipping at all Just my 2 cent Worth hope it helps Ps same belt so no need to get longer one
Any advice on my 1990 T4 V belt, 2.4D auto. V belt keep twisting, loosening or snapping. Now had a new alternator fitted and it's still having the same problems. Garage hasn't been able to sort it!! Thanks in advance 👍🏻
Hi m8, can a slipping belt give a similar effect as a slipping clutch plate ? Also if you have lost a shim plate can you use 3 washers instead? Cheers PeaceFromOZ
Hi mate sorry for the late reply If the belt slips it can make the steering jerky an intermittent and normally u will get a lot of belt noise on fall lock Regards tel 😊😔
Great vid ? Think my power steering belt needs replacing as I’m getting an almost grinding noise on full lock. However, I can’t find the belt anywhere. Any suggestions? T4 2.5tdi 102bhp 2002 plate.
Hi mate as in u can't find any where that sells one if so I think I no what's going on 😊 On the 2.5 they only have one belt that dose all the alternate and power stearing and ac if u have it so u just need to look for a new drive belt 😊
What alternator belt is fitted? I've tryed 5 belts so far on my tdi and non of them have fitted. The belt that was on ran over the top of the water pump pulley though 🤔
Sometimes people fit the belt over the water pump by mistake - it's meant to run with the grooves, not the back of the belt, running over the water pump pulley (ABL/1X).
