This a genuine life saver! I’m on the bay map so there’s no water flow. At first I just had some filters, and stuck my drainage pipes on a island, but it began to go near the city and made people ill, this genuinely saved me so much trouble
Even though this video is from 5 years ago its still works thank you for this amazing tip. I was suffering from water pollution this is a life saver and money saver
Hello, I'm playing this game on a XBOX ONE, and I have test your solution to stop water pollution, but in my city, I have used the Water Treatment Plant and it works!!!!!! And I have tested first with 5 Water Treatment Plants and with 7 Water Pumping Stations to see if it works. After, I have stoped the time and I have put more 5 Water Treatment Plans and more 7 Water Pumping Stations and... It works!!!!! Thanks for this trick!
Sept. 2021 here, STILL WORKS OMG :D thanks for the Trick. Extremly useful for the start of the game if you dont want to pump sewage in the river. Hopefully the GameDevs will never see this video or fix that
I’ve done this before but on Elder Scrolls. now I always try to keep 2 save files of all my games just in case I ever accidentally delete one I have a back up.
Dude you're a genius ! I've just started playing this game last month and I play it on PS4 so I tried this trick. This trick does really work on console and it's nice to see a beautiful sea water. Thank you so much.
I experimented with this trick, and found out that it still works even if you remove the water pumping stations once all drain pipes are up and running.
@@LimitlessGamingRU-vidChannel Huh. I actually didn't think about that. Then again, I did recently delete the city I had this trick on, which I actually extended the canal by quite a bit. However, I think it has the same physics as water, which will cause it to evaporate.
Still works for Xbox One. Only need the same number of pumps as drain pipes, not more pumps. If you put more pumps, they never turn blue indicating their working, so they aren't needed.
Aug. 2020 still working, thank you so much brother, this is an amazing trick. PD. Be careful with this one, you need to put it right next to the water body or it could flood your city
I did this with sewage treatment plants and 4 pumps per plant plus a few extra pumps for safe measure. overflows a little when it rains and when your population goes up so make sure to add enough pumps and extras if you don’t want to keep going back to fix it.
Excellent just what I needed, working on xbox one February 2020. Just follow the instructions, you need to disable the water pumps as they come on. You need to use the inspector to disable them.
@@decapoli156 An Update: my water pipes were almost filled with sewage. The water had no current. With the new setup, I have all the water clean and I'm going to be expanding a lot in the new city :D
Thank you so much for this working. Was running out of water due to river not giving enuff of a supply and ocean polluted. Now the question is how long will it take and can I speed up the pollution disappearing.
@@xnucl3arch1ck3n9 Sorry mate xD, I'm kind of a casual player of Cities Skylines so I don't know anything more, at least that I think is good enough to show. However, maybe you can take a look at "T4rget Gaming" channel, he is a great builder, no mods, maybe you can learn from him how he uses auxiliary roads to make better shapes and have a "better looking" road/highway ;)
@@decapoli156 yeah awesome, thank you! I love the game but I'm also having trouble with highways and major intersections lol, might have a suss. Cheers mate, and again great vid, i like the tutorials that are straight to the point and helpful, this one was exactly that haha
i tried the original way and my canal quickly overflooded. If i keep a ratio of 3 dump stations to 2 water pumps, will it overload a canal? Do i need to keep digging a longer canal?
Yes! It doesn't pump into the water supply because you keep it disconnected. If you stop the video between 0:43 / 0:44 you will see that the "Water Pumping Stations" are connected to each other but to nothing else, and as they still work, pump to nowhere ;) (you have some more info on description)
The problem is the it's making people sick and someone told me that the pumping water is only intended for drinking and I removed the pumping water and then the deep canal started to flood.
xD, super fun! But mate, you didn't get the idea of this! You have to keep the pumps disconected from city pipes, they aren't connected so they don't poison the people of your city! Hope it helps, if I didn't express myself ask again ;) gl!
Do you know of any exploits that are working in game as of now? I know that the “natural disasters” dlc allows for an easy waste solution but thats the only one that I can find.
Sorry, I only know this one. I guess there are a lot more, maybe you could find them on the Steam Cities Skylines forum or the one from Paradox Interactive (searching or asking for them). Good luck with that! ;)
It is! And about how it "works" it's unknown, just a game exploit, something forgotten in programming or something. If you don't turn them off they just stop working (they don't pump any water), they detect it's sewage going to nowhere so they put "Off" (even staying ON) themselves (once it happens you have to eliminate them and put new ones).
Thanks! And, don't worry for that, with time the pollution will disappear. And also, if you want to do it faster, you can use the same method on the sea, which will speed up the process.
@@decapoli156 i have 4 drains and 5 pumps, i have the same system on another side of town thats attached to conpletely different pipes which is completely working fine but this one just stopped out of nowhere
@@turf9131 Hmm... seems it is well build. Maybe you should remove everything that doesn't work and start brand new. Be careful in the part where you have to put the pumps off, as maybe you were too slow and it didn't do the trick. Good luck!
I found out about this by accident, i made a lake that was for fresh water using fresh water pump and pumping station at the bottom off the hole i dug with a waste outlet next to river to keep flow in and out consistent, when it filled there was to much going in and started overflowing so i turned off the fresh pump in and allowed the pump out to carry on until hole was empty, when it was empty turned pump out off and the fresh back on but this time the hole would not fill no matter how many fresh water pumps i used it would just disappear underground under the waste out pipe(which was off) so i repeated using my waste pipes from city and now that just disapears into a hole with no water in it💦🕳️😁
Mate, first of all, thank you for the useful trick. It worked quite well at the beginning but now I have a problem. Water pumps seem inactive and sewage goes out of the water canal. I tried to demolish and rebuild water pumping stations but even though I turned them off after they got blue, they suddenly become grey (deactivated) again. Please help, otherwise, I will lose my city :/
Hey Volkan! Thanks for your comment ;) I think your main problem is due to the number of pipes. Don't demolish them, just build new ones. If there is sewage to pump they will become blue and you will be able to put them off and keep the trick going. I hope I'm able to help, if it is not the case ask again and we will work it out ;) Have a great day!
xD, Sometimes it happens if you don't do the process step by step. Look again into it, specially the part of turning OFF the pumps. Also, keep in mind the number of pumps has to be bigger than the Drain pipes. If it keeps happening ask again, maybe it's something more complicated. Good luck!
Guys if you are going to use 1 water drain pipe then you need 2 water pump station but if you use 4 water drain pipe you need 4 water pump station so if you don't want to flood your city make sure to do it unless rip
Thanks Alex! I appreciate your comment, it's a pleasure reading messages like yours. Best regards for your citizens, but the owner of the video won't pay damages :)
Completely confused as to what was being accomplished by putting sewage pipes and freshwater pipes into the same drainage ditch?? And what about the use of the cleaner sewer drainage treatment plants?
The cleaner sewer are not needed (as all the sewage is "eliminated"). What is being done is using an exploit to eliminate the sewage by using pumps. Hope it answers your questions mate, also, try to read the description and look it again maybe you understand it this time ;) Good luck and thanks for viewing!
@@decapoli156 damn hopefully this works I just tried it and my game is still paused about to find out. You seem like a nice guy based on all your responses. Fingers crossed
Plz help. My river has disappiered. Wtf? And when i put the water pumps to the ocean, the ocean is backing up and the pumps are in the ground, i cant supply my people and everybody dies
Mate, thanks. Your comment really made me laugh. Don't worry, we will solve it! The problem I think you have is related to your massive city population, isn't it? You have so many pumps (to get water to people) that the river and sea aren't enough, so the new pumps just don't have enough water and the sea becomes lower. If this is not the case ask again and we will find something ;) To fix that I would use Water towers instead of so many pumps. Yes, you will need a lot as they have 1/2 of the capacity, but the river will survive. Keep in mind of building the water towers on good soil! Poluted soil will do harm to your citizens. Good luck mate ;)
I did it once. It was like an utter shit storm, a tsunami of crap destroying 96k population city. I was experimenting with making poop give power to my city ._.
@@decapoli156 do you know a way to get rid of the pollution after putting it in a contains area? Because it will even eventually overflow if there's no dish down steam flowing water. Jw.
@@zg3671 I think you can take care of it just using pumps, as the video shows. So, instead of having Drains and Pumps, just place Pumps where all the sewage is ;) You can do the same to make a river dissapear :) Hope it helps!
Good way to stop pollution ... but, it is not a very good way to get rid of pollution, because that makes citizens sick so I need to buy enough hospitals.
Hey mate, It seems that you didn't get the trick, try it again, it should work without getting citizens sick. Maybe, you did not disconnect the pipes from the city pipes. Good luck!
Does this work to clean up existing Water Pollution? There is an area of my bay/ocean that has no current and the Pollution just stays there, even if I'm pumping it to somewhere else...
@@decapoli156 Thanks for the reply =] (subbed!). Let me clarify my question: I have converted my water/sewer system to the method described in your video. It is working to dispose of the sewage from my city with 0% pollution. However, the pollution left over from before is still sitting in my water, and does not seem to be going away. Does it just take a really long time for this to happen? Or do I need to do something like set up another pump system to suck it out? EDIT: I see after playing for a bit more in my game that the Water Pollution DOES slowly move away, even if there is little/no current. So I guess one just needs to be patient, and wait for that toxic sludge to become someone else's problem =P
@@luckyduckydrivingschool3615 Yeah! You guessed it right! However, if you want to speed up the process, you can place pumping stations in the spots where the sewage is. If it is very far away from the coast, maybe the best option is just to let time do the job ;) Thanks for your comments mate
@@decapoli156 Hey, so I just started my game again today and I think I found one flaw in this strategy.... So there was a massive rainstorm which caused the water level to rise everywhere, including in the closed-off Canal. Eventually it flooded and the polluted water spilled out everywhere... luckily I built it near the sea where it was able to drain off and did not threaten my population, but I thought I would just point this out. The Canal is not bulletproof, it may require some maintenance from time to time...
@@luckyduckydrivingschool3615 Yes it does mate! Good find. It's because when you have the same number of pumps and drains it stays in equilibrium. Then you need one pump more, and the job is done again ;) The problem is that it's not easy to place more pumps than drains, as you need water to start the pump and maybe the water never goes near the pump because the other pumps have sucked it. Also, as this video was done not to achive such a high audience, it still has its flaws. I tried to keep it short, but I forgot to mention problems as the one you are describing. However, I hope and see, that you have the necessary tools to fix it :) Thanks for your comments mate, good luck
Hey Courtney! No problem, a lot of times it's just a easy to solve mistake, usually at the last stage of putting off the pumps. I encourage you to try it again step by step from scratch, without looking through your memories which are maybe wrong. Keep in mind this 2 key points: The pumps have to be disconnected in a precise moment (as the video shows, when they turn blue) you have an small amount of time to do it, so maybe you should pause the game once you see one that turns blue. And 2nd point: remember to leave the new pumps disconnected from the main city pipelines! Good luck, if you still have problems just ask again , we will sort it out. ;)
Didn’t seem to work on PS4. I think I did everything right but it just overflowed. Oh well... the attempt will be remembered as the Turd Tsuami of 2020. Thanks nonetheless.
Hello Anthony! xD, well, if you made a mistake it is probably in the ratio of pumps (need more pumps than sewage) or in the last step, once you put them "off" (maybe you did it late). Try to give it a try in another day, "reset" is the best cure for all mistakes :D thanks for sharing and good luck!
Can you help please i have build the thing but the pumps aren't working only the Sawage is working i have sperated the pipes and connected the pipes its still dosent work what is the problem please aswear Also i just found that Old version Shandy shours make the Sawage clean it still come out a bit but it usally clean in Shandy shours and Diamond coast is the hardest to keep sawage out
Mishael, I think you didn't follow all the steps! Try to look carefully at the part where you have tu turn Off the water pumps, seems it's where you are missing something. Good luck!
Hello StillMaths! Hmm... Maybe you have a LOT of pumps because your city is huge? Then your water consumption is so big that the river can't keep with it. I would suggest, if this is the case, that you move your pumps to the sea, then the river can flow and the sea water keeps the city going. If this is not the case ask again! We wil find a solution ;) Good luck!
@@seanthepowerdavies I figured out later that I had messed up the physics of the river and therfore it stopped flowing sufficiently. Nothing to do with the video in the end. Thanks for the advice though.
There is a building with a big (small) toxic leak in st. paul mn. Rice street left hand side (N). It was so bad I could smell it from a mile or two away. It has been there for hmmmmmm maybe 5 months. They could have put sand or dirt on it or something. About a mile and a half up the road is a water filtration place. (Side walk over head view)
This trick should work, but the pumps have to be placed in the lowest spot, so then all the sewage keeps coming to them until it drains it all. Good luck with it mate, anything you need about it just keep asking!
Hey Boston! NSA is always looking for comments on youtube, you are seen. Changing topics, maybe you can place a lot of drains into a dam and then remove the dam? :) good luck with your project!
Hey Caldren! No, it doesn't fill if the pumps keep sucking all the sewage, so if done correctly and the pumps are more than the sewage drains, you will always have a "clean" canal and won't ever fill ;)
@@knightwolf95 No no! Sorry, I meant that you keep them "off" the way the video shows, so they keep pumping forever. In the end what I was saying is that if you do the process described you'll never have a canal fill to the top ;)
Unpopular opinion here... this is like a glitch of the game. Honestly, I am looking for someone with actual expertise telling how to keep a city running without water pollution.
Hello NetDevil! Yes it is, as you can see in the description, it's an exploit, not an in-game friendly function. For non-DLC users it's impossible to keep 100% pollution free water. Once you grow you have water treatment plants, but they aren't perfect. If your city grows (which maybe it will) you will have to deal with excess pollution. And, as I said, there is no way to eliminate it without mods or DLCs. So the video is for those people that want it clean even with this handicap. Hope it helps! About your case, I think you are looking for the Cities Skylines DLC called "Green Cities". Good luck mate!
Hello! I don't know if it is the case, but someone said it doesn't work 3 hours ago. Maybe it has been fixed? don't know, give it another try a day from now, but if people keep commenting that it doesn't work, then can be that it doesn't anymore :( Sorry mate, hope it does!
hi. i make the same to one of my city but ii had big problem all the polution waters was out out after some time and i had again dirty city ..... and i make new canals all over and still the same flooding out all.... and how can i make emty the canals ? plz
Hello Thanasis! I think that maybe you can solve that by adding more pumps. You have to keep the number of pumps higher than the drains or it will flood. Good luck with it ;)
Hey Nitin! Well, I would place more pumps. xD Maybe you already knew, but if the problem is overflow i'll just keep placing more pumps until it doesn't hope it helps ;) gl
Hello Notorious! Maybe you can solve it by adding more pumps. I think your problem is because you have as many drains as pumps and, to ensure it doesn't overflow, it's better to have more pumps than drains Hope it helps :)
