I alway carry a pin or use a spare hook if I ever get a knot and the golden rule is never pull at the tails always pick at the heart of the knot 👌

That makes sense mate. Shall pass that on. Thanks for your support

Thank you for this 👍🏻 I've been fishing for years, but only recently swapped to braid as a mainline. First time out on the north east coast of Scotland I nearly launched everything into the water 😂 Went out today and with these tips, absolutely no loops, tangles or dramas. Thanks 👍🏻

Some solid tips here,found myself nodding in agreement. The only time I really suffer from wind knots is the first few casts after re- spooling I remedy this by increasing the distance on each consecutive cast and applying the techniques you mention. Eg:start by casting 10 yds,wind in and re cast 20yds etc ,etc. Only then will I give it the big one and go full distances . I still get the occasional wind knot,but the above certainly helps minimise them

Agree there. Forgot to add about using new braid. I still get them but usually when I am tired.

Cheers! I had a frustrating day yesterday first time trying braid. Had some horrible knots casting onto the wind. I found casting too enthusiastically was the worst. Throwing the lure too hard. I couldn’t believe the huge knots that formed in mid air. Luckily they were all within 10 or so yards from the end.

It can also help to cast lower when fishing into the wind. Good idea with new braid to cast gently at first to wet the line and so bed it in better. Hope that helps

I have been using the improved Albright knot very easy and reliable to tie not any bigger than the FG knot which is a pain in wind to tie.

It is a pain on the bank when it’s windy, especially when using fine lines. I use an Improved Albright like yourself if im fishing up in the water. It is very strong. I used to make Carp Combi rigs with it

You're the only one I've ever seen do exactly what I do. Only difference is I slow the bait with my left hand but not a hard stop , a controlled drop with tension. Pinch the line with thumb and index finger to slow it right before hitting the water.

Sounds a good idea. Glad I’m not the only one.

Nice one mate! What’s the deal with the penn slammer? How much lower should my line be from the top of the arbor? If using 20/30ib braid would I need mono backing on 2500? Cheers
@TheConstantAngler
@TheConstantAngler Год назад
Mono backing will help grip the spool can’t remember if spool is braid friendly or not now, will have to look but it might allow you to use less braid. Just knock back a couple of millimetres braid than you would normally.

What’s the extended knob on the opposite side as the handle I have a stradic and mine has a normal knob
@TheConstantAngler
@TheConstantAngler 3 года назад
It’s a little reel stand. You can pick them up on eBay etc for your particular model of reel. If you find one for Penn slammers let me know. Allows you to put reel down resting on it. Don’t do up too tight as will stiffen up when winding
@Charlie-cc3jl

So you can put it on the ground?
@TheConstantAngler
@TheConstantAngler 3 года назад
Yep that’s the idea. Some are longer than this one.

Newbie here! If I want the lure to sink several meters down before i reel in, this technique wont work?
@TheConstantAngler
@TheConstantAngler 10 месяцев назад
You can still stop it before it hits the water and allow it to sink before pushing over the bail arm.
@georgedixon8105
@georgedixon8105 9 месяцев назад
Yes it will , just pause before you start winding the job is done on the spool and your line will get taught as it sinks.

@@TheConstantAngler you should visit the Avon dam little spinners and LRF soft plastics work well up there and it’s free fishing

How are you stopping that line
@TheConstantAngler
@TheConstantAngler Год назад
Here I’m stopping it with my little finger. If your using heavy setups I would wear gloves and cup the spool with your free hand
@byrny111
@byrny111 Год назад
@@TheConstantAngler ive always stopped it by my trigger finger that was holding the line thru the cast whilst keeping my hand on the rod in the same position as you. Is there a reason you touch the spool vs just using the index finger again
@TheConstantAngler

@@byrny111 to be honest I think I might do both at different times. Will have to see what I actually do?
