Til this day I give my dad and my uncles flack for how badly they took care of their records and how scratched and messed up the covers are. I always knew since the age of 5 to really take care of my records, as well as my cassettes and CD's subsequently. I'm still trying to solve my storage problem, but now I got an idea to solve this. +Paulina Angel That's so funny, you have a natural maternal instinct when it comes to records... very much unlike me ( sandy) haha we know about storage problems... its so hard to walk in Matt's room!!! Maybe look into the ikea furniture for the square boxes to put them in?
Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH for not perpetuating the lie that, "You need to wash your record after every time you play it or atleast every other". Thats complete bullshit, I've owned 200+ records for about 4 years now and I've never washed a single new record - Just a quick microfiber soft brush for like 5 seconds and they sound beautiful. The only time I ever wet clean a record is when I get it used and its super dirty. Vinyl is great, but dont be too obsessive :)
Even pinching to get the record out isn't really the preferred method, you can slide it out without pinching. Wet cleaning is so important - the idea of degrading really goes away when you keep the INSIDE of those grooves clean - the debris/dust acts as sandpaper, and when you wet clean you get rid of all of that - even new records are dirty to an extent.
a while back i partied one night and left all my vinyls stupidly out on the floor and went to sleep. When everyone woke up the sun from the open window had completely melted all of them. The carpet and collection was ruined :(((((

Putting a plastic bag over the record create the greenhouse effect it's Ok to put the record itself into a plastic bag then put it into the sleeve But, only put the jacket in a bag if it's falling apart or a really rare jacket or art work cover. I know it probably doesn't make any sense but putting the record itself in a plastic sleeve then into the cardboard sleeves will protected the record a little bit better than the paper sleeves the out side bag will cause the greenhouse effect even in a little heat more so the the inner bag..
Damn it sandy! I should have subscribed before I bought my first record player! It's a crosley! I'm just 8 records into my collection..what's wrong with crosleys? And what do u guys recommend?? And btw I love the vids! I just watched 9 in a row :/ lol

Crosley's are bad for your records because they don't have a built in counter weight or anti-skate like most other tables do, it puts excess wear on your records and often causes them to skip when they shouldn't. Records scratch very easily. Even looking at it the wrong way will scratch it. CDs don't scratch that easily if you take them from the case to the CD player held by the edges. The CD jewel case is designed to hold a CD so it dosent scratch it but records don't have a very good way to store them. The record sleeve can so easily damage a record when taking it out or putting it away.
Well, maybe that wouldn't happen if you took care of it! Halloa?!... CD is durable because, unless you do something to it, it won't degrade. Vinyls degrade JUST from playing them. They also have sonic limitations that don't exist on CDs.
