As a navy recruiter that deals with people taking their asvab every month, this video is a great help. The key thing is not to freak out guys, some people are great at studying but horrible test takers. If you apply yourself and are diligent in your effort, you will be rewarded in kind. Just don’t freak out.

Would you mind answering this question? I'm 34 now but in highschool, I scored in the 98th percentile on the ASVAB, and the Navy was trying so hard to recruit me that it bordered on stalking. I turned you guys down, and I regret it immensely. Would the Navy still take me at 34? What about in poor health and with a criminal record? Do Nukes still skip basic and go straight into job training?

Brad Miller from what I have been learning EVERYONE must go to basic, you can talk to a recruiter about the criminal and health stuff, you may be able to get what they call waivers for stuff and get through it with no problem. If you can pass your age PFA that will tell you if your in good enough health for the Navy.

For those struggling on the asvab. I suggest you take basic math and english course for at least two before taking the practice test. Also study hard on your weakest area.

One tip I learned for learning a subject, is to learn the subject enough to teach it to someone else in simple terms. If you can teach it to a child, then you understand that subject.

If I can pass the asvab, anyone can pass the asvab. I was never a good test taker nor was I a good student in school in general. I took the asvab twice. My first asvab score was SO LOW that I don’t even want to say it here cuz you might actually think I’m mentally slow if I say it. My first score killed my confidence. I was stressed to retake the test after that and it took me nearly a year to find the courage to take it again. Fortunately I got through it. I got two 48’s for both the English sections, a 50 on Arithmetic Reasoning, and a 51 on mathematics knowledge so safe to say I did nearly as average as it gets the second time I took it but I was pleased I passed. Keep your head up if you’re stressing about the test. It took me long and many hours in the library to finally get the confidence in myself to retake it. The moral of the story is to never give up. And here I am today as a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps with over a year and a half of my contract under my belt.

vietmostwanted, there are plenty of practice test websites and they will even break down the math problems to show you how to solve if you answered incorrectly. We all learn in different ways, so understanding how you learn and applying that style is key to success. I have the ASVAB for Dummies (2018-19) book if you need it plus a couple practice math tests 👍 You got this!

Im 23 and I have a cousin who gave me the idea of joining the military specificlly navy branch. I remember vaguely taking the asvab test in highschool but its been awhile. I did two years of college, didnt really workout so well so I decided to not return. So I decided to do a trade and I really liked it and learned a lot. I just want to making a living and have a better lifestyle. Retail jobs are not cutting it and I feel like im wasting my talent at my current job (no offense to the people that been in the company for 5-10 plus years) but thats not me. My family and peers remind me all the time that im way better than my job and that I could be doing so much more due to my drive to learn and being a hardworking man.

I went to MEPS to take the PICAT verification. Unfortunately, my verification test score didn't make it so I had to immediately take the ASVAB which sucked. BOY, I knew I was screwed and started panicking cuz I didn't study AT ALL for the ASVAB. It was my very first ASVAB ever, but luckily got an 85 on it. Not the best, but high enough for the MOS I wanted. Don't sweat it. Everything was just common sense knowledge. Gonna leave this July, Fort Sill, 68W! Fucking excited.

This is going to be my fourth time taking the asvab. Based on my last three attempts, I would end up getting no higher than a 19. I had a 42 on my practice asvab and I thought my third attempt would be a charm, but I guess I went in way too soon. Now that I finished college this past May, I went back to my recruiting officer a little before the semester ended and I was so happy that my score on the practice asvab went up to a 60, but I already knew that I wasn’t ready for the test just yet. Thanks to your video, I was able to take it steady and find the right help I needed! I started off by choosing my top MOS and noticed that 3/5 of those jobs require a high GT score. As I was seeking resources of the GT Enhancement program from the education center in the base my husband’s stationed in, I was able to register online and study off of their materials since they also offer to family members from the service! Once I’m caught up with my study materials, I plan to take the Asvab diagnostic test just to get an idea on where I am. I will be seeing my recruiter soon to see where I stand on the practice asvab, but I know for sure that I will pass the asvab this time! Thank you so much!

Hey Doc, retired Army Chaplain here and my youngest daughter just took a contract as a 68W and leaves for Ft Sill in August for BCT and then to Ft Sam in November. I of course have had a lot of interaction with my medics over my time in and always loved going down the the clinic to hang with them. I graduated high school 3 years ago. I have some college credit built for already completing 2 years. However, I chose to go with the military option due to my current situation. Not as a last resort but because I genuinely thought it through and believe it'll be the fastest way to my dream career. The problem I've run into, which leaves me overwhelmed and stressed, is that all of what I learned in high school I completely annihilated it out of my head. Where I'm going with this is that I'm now studying for the ASVAB test, comfortable with all other subjects, but, you guessed it. Math. When it comes to math and studying for it, there is so much information I need to re-learn that I get overwhelmed and discouraged. I'm looking for any advice on how to break it up for myself to really grasp what I need to learn for the test. I might just be overthinking it but, I honestly can't afford to fail it my first time. Not that it's terrible if you do, but because of my current situation.

Thanks for the info! Way back when I got a score of 67. A few months ago, I took the practice test and scored a 44. I’m definitely not happy with that. I’m trying to study really hard in hopes of getting at least a 75 - 80. I know I’m smart enough to achieve that 🙏

The first time i got in contact with my recruiter i did my practice test and scored a 68. 68 is a good score but i wanted higher because i wanted to ensure that i qualify for any IT MOS. So i studied for a whole month using apps, the kaplan ASVAB prep study book, and grammar hero here on youtube (highly suggest watching his videos for the math knowledge and arithmetic reasoning sections). Two weeks later i took my picat at my recruiter's office and got an 81. The same day we drove over to MEPS which was 15 minutes away. Took my verification test, got it verified, and now I get to keep that 81:) The worst part was probably the TAPAS test that you take right after the verification test at MEPS. The verification test took me 25 minutes to complete but the TAPAS took me a good 45 minutes due to how ridiculous each question sections were haha.

One thing i would suggest is ignore the advice about not taking breaks during the test. Studies show taking a short break from studying may have improved results as we tend to hyper focus on certain aspects of things if we think its going to lead us to the correct answer, even if its far from it. Taking a break allows you to reset and look at everything on an even playing field again, as a studying Software Engineer I have woken up from naps with the answer to some of my problems.

Eduar I’ve learned that the vocabulary and math makes up you overall score. Everything else just helps with job preferences. For math all you have to remember is: how to divide on paper (with decimal quotients too) and how to divide fractions. Also the basics on how to get percentages... math is easy when you know that shit on paper. The word knowledge, not so much. Tons of quizlets will get you familiar with words you’ll see on there.

Nice! When I took the ASVAB, I scored in the 98th and the local recruitment office basically started stalking me, they wanted me so bad lol. If you can get that score on the actual test, they will offer you the world. I didn't take my offer and I regret it. Don't be like me lol.

@@alanagonzales not really. It was in 2003, and I was still in highschool, so things were still very fresh in my mind. Just study, I guess. I'm pretty sure there's a practice test you can take, so I'd maybe do that to see where you are and where you might need to focus your efforts the most.

Everyone is different and everyone has their strong parts and weak parts. You could do a study group online with all the strong parts like I am good at science and English. Then you could have people who are good at math and make it a study group to get high scores. That would be a great idea. I am bad at math but have been studying a lot.

I got a percentile score of 26 with all sections above a 40 and still failed to join the marines. I have purchase a book called ASVAB for dummies and I feel like it is working. I just hope it works because I’m going to see this book as valuable. Trying to leave out by this year. I hope studying 4 times a week improves my score during my 6 month wait.

If this helps then great. After you take the test you can always re-take it, with a one month cool down. They also teach you the thing you need to know to pass, it’s mostly up to you if you want to pay attention to what they say. That’s why it’s very important to listen to everything they say to you during boot camp.

I've taken the ASVAB twice didn't pass. The first time I got a 13. Then the second time I got a 22. Nine points from passing. I'm praying that the third time is a successful outcome. I was suppose to take it on April 13th but due to the pandemic I have to reschedule .

I took the PICAT and had the AFQT score of 62. Because the military screwed me they didn't extend my verification date thanks to covid. My recruiter did not tell me until the day before I left to MEPs which I expected to take the verification. I was unprepared and beyond 👎🏼 ended up failing with a AFQT score of 24 and now have to wait 30 days to take the ASVAB again. My recruiter literally has not sent me any links or helped me when it came to studying, just gave me the same practice until I memorized the answers leaving me to inevitably failure with the actual ASVAB 🙄 Thanks for this video and the links! I'm going to have to study on my own since my recruiter is being extremely unprofessional. On top of that my recruiters boss kept cursing at him while I was there and when I was done at MEPS my recruiter refused to pick me up until the other person I came with was done 6 hours later.

I need a 91 for 68T. I’ve had downloaded every asvab pre test and study guide, I’ve been doing the pretest online. I’m really dedicated to this and I’m just stressing so much because I can not do the mathematics nor the science part because I forgot most of it....
