HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY SELL CAKES AS A SIDE BUSINESS || Friday Fixes Episode 1 

I made cupcake and gave as gift in a very single box that I made, everything handmade and lady loved, and right away she asked me "do you sell? do you take orders? And I said I can try. She wanted for her meeting but she asked me to make mini cupcakes instead of normal size cupcakes. And because I have never made mini cupcakes and also new making cupcakes, I used the same time cooking for the mini cupcakes and dried out some cupcakes. Anyway I appreciated her feedback that the mini cupcakes were a little dried, and I told her that I used the time cooking by mistake. And I told her you pay me whatever you want, and she paid me. Her feedback helped me for improvement. And next time I will be able to give her very moist and not too sweet topping. I adjusted the recipe to her taste.

Janie, This is so spot on. I've been doing decorated cakes for years, and your videos are great.

1. Choose your equipment wisely. 2. Do your research. 3. Do not sell your cakes unless you’re ready. 4. Stay in your cake lane. 5. Know what kind of business you want to do. 6. You can buy premade. 7. Determine your prices early. 8. Get a website. 9. Get a written contract. 10. Time management.

I had a customer negotiating $5 with me, I was like really? What would $5 do to you, if the whole cake cost $45! Seriously!!

Janie!!!! I freaking love you! Lol Great video! Pricing is still an issue for me. I never want to charge "too much" and end up shorting myself A LOT. So another video on pricing would be awesome. I love the "stay in your cake lane" point. I use to feel so much pressure to work with fondant. The fact of the matter is I truly don't enjoy it. I'm a buttercream girl and finally decided that it's just not my thing and if somebody wants fondant covered cakes they are gonna have to go to someone else. The relief I felt when i came to that realization was phenomenal!! Anyway, keep making these Friday Fixes. Totally love it!

So glad i found this channel. I've been baking cakes for a few years. my focus now is to do it full time and leave my part time job. i think i will get great info from this channel. thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

I lost it at cabbage flowers 😂😂😂😂. I'm really grateful you made this video. I am thinking of starting a cake/dessert business. I bake now and then because I have to share my small kitchen with my mom, and it's not possible to bake all the time. And we can't eat cake all day everyday, so I kinda space it out to weekends only. This video actually enlightened me that if I'm starting from the bottom, I don't need everything handmade and premium quality. Who would want to buy a $100 cake from someone without an amazing portfolio and unknown baker??? Imma start slow and and just see where things go. wow are used to work at a hotel in the pastry shop trying to do something on my own I wish I would’ve seen your video for years ago you are so right yes contract I made a cake for 500 people and I did not take a deposit down so guess what happened never again then never showed up .but you guys have to be careful out there and be successful with your own Business try to work for yourself always do you know the schools and everybody tell you that you have to work for somebody try to do something on your own I’m 54 and I got into an accident but don’t make my mistakes . thank you everybody take care
