Hey! My neighbor just gave me a 2008 Ariens 624E blower in very good physical condition, runs. What do you think the value is? Curious! But I'm going to end up fixing it up and giving it to my dad anyways.
Hey BTC! I would say a couple hundred bucks but I would really have to see it to determine that. Working order, newer parts, paint and overall condition play into that a lot. Those are generally good machines. I’m sure your dad would be happy with it. Thanks for watching
ooo a ? 4 u do those underdeck coating work for lawnmowers getting my new hrx and was wondering if the stuff is worth it and what would u suggest, thanks Ray
Hey I’m looking at the Ariens 28 Deluxe and the 28 Deluxe SHO, do you wish that you would of went with the SHO or are you happy with the regular 28 Deluxe? I live in Michigan by the way. Thanks.
Hey Todd! I have the regular deluxe 28 and it has worked perfectly for me these past almost ten years now. I installed an impeller kit on it after year 2 or 3 and it’s an absolute animal! If you have a really wide driveway you may want the extra power to send the snow so it can make it across other than that you should be good! Thanks for watching!
So Ive got the same snowblower.. well its a platinum 30, 16.5hp. I cannot just pull the cord as there is a ton of resistance during some point in the stroke.. not sure why but once its past that point, I can rip thru and it starts right up. So much resistance the cord knob is ripped from my hand! Thoughts? Resolution? Other than that, its a great machine! Your videos are great! Thank you! Cheers from the Hudson Valley 🍻🤙
Hey Eric! I’m not exactly sure without seeing it in person. That is a big engine though so I wonder if it the size of the piston causing that. I don’t think it’s anything to be alarmed about because of its size. If you want to send me a video feel free to email me. Thanks for watching bud!
If there’s more than half a tank of gas left in it, I’ll drain it and put it in the Deere tractor. Then I’ll run the blower until it stops. What’s the “active ingredient” of that Liquid Wrench product?? Seems more companies are recognizing the success of Fluid Film and making products of their own
Hey JS! I’ll take a look at the van and see what the active ingredient is! Seems more oil based but I’ll get back to you! Thanks for watching another my friend!
Draining the gas is always a good. But i only run ethanol free gas so i fill it up full and add a few ounces of Sea Foam motor treatment and run the engine for 10 minutes then shut it off. Always starts 1st pull and runs like it should when i get it out of storage the next winter. Never had a carburetor problem.
Some peoples talk about drying cracking seals/gaskets if flushing gas, could it really happen or bullshit? Personally never had troubles with it and prefer to keep Stabil for the gas can...
I personally never saw this as an issue before but some one told me that this a problem for a specific kind of older blower! Can’t remember which but it was quite old so on a current model it’s no problem! 👍
hey jb I was wondering with the global warming thing going on how many times do u use your blower now compared to saymaybe 10 /15 yrs ago. I live near daytona beach in fl so no sblower 4 me. keep the vids coming, thanks,Ray
Hey Ray, I still snowblow the same amount but I do think our winter shifted. It used to start in November years ago no it appears to start after Christmas and lasts until mid March where it used to last until February. Interesting to think about. Thanks for watching bud!
When is a good time to change the spark plug, I do it every year on my lawnmower, should I do it for my Ariens snow blower as well. Also, can I wait until right before the winter season to put in the oil instead of immediately after dumping out the old. Thanks, love the channel.
Hey SMM! You shouldn’t need to replace the spark plug every year. Spark plugs can last a very long time. In many cases I just clean them and put them back in. My ariens spark plug is almost ten years old and has never been changed. Cleaned twice and still runs fine. I would definitely put oil back in because that will keep the inside of the engine block from corroding. Especially if you like in an area with muggy summers. Thanks for watching!
Thanks JD! If you perform those maintenance tasks now you won’t have to do them in the fall and your machine will be ready to go! In my area we can get blasted with snow early in the season at times. Having the machine all set is a good thing! Thanks for watching
I store a motorcycle for 6 months here in Canada and the general consensus is to fill the gas tank. This prevents the steel gas tank from rusting inside but the recommendation for a snowblower is to drain the gas tank which also has a steel gas tank ? Which is best for a snowblower ? I always store the bike with non ethanol gas.
Hey James! I’ve always drained my gas tank bone dry for the summer months. About 6 months goes by each year. No rust inside. 10+ years doing this procedure with success! Worst case scenario if your tank is rusted, buy a new gas tank right? Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great tips. I bought a brand new Ariens this winter and want to make it last a very long time. Looks like I have next weekends project lined up!
Yes those are both a good idea! I usually will just slightly unscrew the gas cap to let air in to dry things out. I usually don’t like to mess with carburetors if I don’t have to. Thanks for watching BL!
Is there anything that you do to prevent or slow down the rust on the pulley systems within your snowblowers? Drive pulleys and auger belt pulleys? Not sure what to hit it with to prevent rust but that won’t cause the belts to slip or degrade, thanks
Hey Rambo, I would like to do a long term test with cooking spray vs other protectants to see what does a better job! Thanks for watching! You’ve been entered in the giveaway! 👍
@@smallblock412 Kellsport Products, it’s a thicker version of Fluid Film. I use the black color on the undercarriage and chassis of my Ram 1500. Looks as good as new
And it comes full circle. I moved from TX to NY and got a snow blower. I found your video on how to make sure it was ready for winter. I did all that and we had a GREAT time using the snowblower. Now it's time to put her away for the season, and here we are again. Thank you sir.
Good question Henry! I keep oil in it all the time. We live in an area that gets muggy in the summer months. This means metal can rust. I’ve seen engine blocks rust out due to not having any oil. If you keep oil in there in prevents this. If you drain it there may still be some residual oil left behind but I don’t chance it. I fill it right back up to prevent corrosion. Thanks for watching!
Nice! I just got done with mine last weekend. My last task was installing the Garage Gear sticker. 😬 Another excellent vid, JB. Like you said, this is for beginners. If they just follow these basic steps, they will be miles ahead of the guys who do nothing. 👉🏻👍🏻
I think it's finally done snowing here in Utah, so I followed your step by step instructions this morning for my snowblower. Thanks for making it so easy! I have confidence my snowblower will start right up next winter and run great.
I really like your vids on snow blowers. Question. and a bit of fustration with my Areins, when filing up the oil to check the level, do you have to screw in the dip stick fully to measure or just put the dip stick in and pull out without screwing in the dip stick?
Hey Steven! My manual states nothing about resting it on top so I twist it in and take the measurement. I would double check your manual for any info on your specific model. 👍
Godday to you JB. Your precious and expert advises are always very important for me Let me ask you an important question about the snowblower maintenance. Is it safer (in order to avoid oil spills from the filling cap) to turn the snowblower up to service position after you have drained the old oil from the engine sump, but before filling with the new or you can add the new oil too and then turn the handles up to service position ?? Or it makes no difference even if you have added the new oil in the engine ?? Grazie once again and Ciao from the Italian Alps
Hey Giuseppe I would say drain the oil out and then tip it up. Leaving a snowblower in the service position could allow it to leak oil. I’ve seen it before on a machine that was in that position for a long time. Hope this helps and all is well my friend! 👍
I live in New Hampshire and have a 120' driveway. Keeping my Ariens in top shape is a MUST!! I always add fuel stabilizer and turn my gas valve off to drain the fuel from the carb. When I start it in the fall, I add fresh gas to what is left over from the Winter and let it run for about 20 minutes or so. Then after it cools, I always change the spark plug. So far, so good, 6 seasons with my Ariens. I'll be needing new belts and a friction wheel replacement soon. Great job with your videos, your work shop looks immaculate!!
Man I absolutely love your channel, you have so much enthusiasm, I do have a question for ya? I have an older Dynamark mower that restored to mint, I now use for my lawn cutting. I really need the decals for it like the hp with the cutting size (2) also the gear shifter one (1) and the Dynamark name (2) also the choke decal. Do you know where I can get these? If you are able to make them I'll pay what you want. I can email you anything you need
Hey Gary! Thanks for being a cool fan! Cool that you’ve restored that older mower. I don’t know where to locate the decals. Have you tried eBay? I don’t have the ability to make them sorry! Let me know if you come across them! Thanks for watching!
Great updated video. I have been looking for a replacement to the Fluid Film b/c I can't stand the smell. Hoping the Liquid Wrench Rust Inhibitor smells better.
Not just tips for beginners, us "old heads" need reminders too. I purchased a lift so my old self don't stoop low to work on my machine. Getting down to work on it wasn't so bad, it's that getting back up that's a struggle.
Yep you can do that too! Here’s another video on that HOW TO SUMMERIZE A SNOWBLOWER (Small Engine Mechanic Approved) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FYylkEag8mE.html
I completely agree with you on running gas out before summer storage. My Ariens Compact snowblower will be 11 years old this Fall 2022 and I have been running gas out every Spring. It depends on who you take advice from. Donyboy73 on RU-vid also suggests the same. I do all the maintenance on my snowblower, except I did not want to change the two belts or friction disk I have noticed wear & tear after 10 years last Fall. I had a dealership change the belts and disk and the serviceman said he added more gas and a stabilizer to the gas and he told me I could store it as is. He did not tell me what kind of stabilizer he added, but he said he does not recommend Sta-Bel which I have used in my gas year round for my snowblower and Honda HRX217VKA lawnmower during use. I also use Sea Foam every other fill to clean carb. The serviceman did agree with me on that. Thanks for the info and I just wanted to mention I agree with you on running gas out before summer storage, or Winter storage for my Honda mower. By the way, it's snowing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin today April 2, 2022. Don from Milwaukee
Hi JB. Well, here in Montreal, after a full winter, my Arians blower hours were 3.8. (I have a 3 car garage and front walk in the city). I know it to be the hours, based on the attachment you recommended. We had dustings, but only three storms where the blower was worth taking out from the garage. I will definitely be draining the tank, I alwas let the engine run dry after every use. As well, I will be flushing the oil and checking the filter for particles(brand new engine). The gas for the blower that I bleed, will be used for the lawnmower. nothing to go to waste. My blower has two grease nipples in the auger shaft, one nipple midway between two augers on one side and one on the other. I don't know what grade of grease to use. I will be purchasing a home-owner grease gun. Following what I saw on an earlier video about coating parts of the machine with epoxy paint, I will do that for the shoes and the bottom lip of the blower. I followed your videos, Thanks for producing them.
Great Vid, will get the rust blocker, I used car spray wax lol. Seemed like a good idea. Getting 4in of snow in Wisconsin today. I just received my new toro time master. Looking forward to some tips for that in the future
Just got my brand new Airens and love that Garage Gear has these awesome videos to help me keep my Airens running and looking great for years. Great stuff!! Thanks!!
Great tips. I like to drain the tank and carb bowl as shown, but refill with some Trufuel or similar. Shelf life far exceeds pump gas, and then the carb and fuel lines aren’t empty all summer.
great information on how to summerize snow blowers. His snow blower looks just like it cane off the show room floor. I will defiantly watch all his vidios and become part of the tribe.
Great video and those tips are helpful. Most people just put some stabil in the tank and put their blower away then when they go to start they start to rethink that. You just helped a whole lot of people and saved them a lot of money and time.
@@GarageGear Continuing maintenance helps avoid headaches when an item is needed (snowblower, lawnmower, etc.) and it doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to work, or at all!
A lot of motors now have a small nut you can remove to drain the float bowl also. Draining the football removes the old gasoline from the float and helps prevent carburetor problems
Two weeks ago I picked up an old Snapper snowblower from a friend for free. It was actually in very good condition and had very little rust on it. After a tune up, this thing runs incredible. I’m telling you, these old Tecumseh engines they put on these things are built to last until the end of time.
You’re a brave one BCSERK! I NEVER have any luck with those engines ever! Maybe all the ones I got were duds! I’ve had like one successful tuneup with them. Lol
Great video JB! Excellent tips! Spring huh….this is Buffalo! (Or Lancaster) my thoughts exactly. I liked the 2nd name on your white board! Cheers neighbor!
Hey Joker! Awesome you’re from the area! Husqvarna makes a good machine! They use metal parts in the right spots. Not cheap plastic like some other brands. They’re a good pick! Thanks for watching and GO BILLS!!! 👍
I have to disagree with changing the oil at the end of the season. Should wait until the beginning of the season or the new oil will become contaminated. With the heating and cooling of the Spring, Summer and fall days moisture will be collect and your new oil will have to be changed before winter season, unless you are super rich or have lots of stock in the oil companies. Everything else I agree with.
@@js12278 I live in Illinois and can use a good example. Take a cooler and place it where the sun can hit it but not the rain, let it sit for a year and than open it. You will have about an inch of water in the bottom of the cooler. It's like a solar still, the heat during the day heats up the cooler and at night time when it cools it changes to water or solid form. I was taught this in Scouting back in the 50s, I'm 71 now. My sons all the time ask why their coolers end up with water in them when they clean them and put them away for the season.
@@SFCRambo60 I’m in Illinois as well. If the cooler remains sealed it’s definitely going to happen. Leave it cracked so air can circulate and you’ll reduce the chance of the condensation forming. I keep all my small engines in a temperature controlled garage. Oil changes occur once a year regardless of use. It’s a practice, a maintenance routine that makes the difference. Leaving your equipment outside, exposed to temperature change and the elements is going to make a difference on the oil’s “ contamination.” My point was, before or after the season, just have a maintenance routine. It’s the routine that makes the difference. 👍🏻
I agree 100% with you about storing the snowblower with no gas left in the tank and draining the remainder of the gas out of the float bowl. Often people run it out of gas but forget about the gas sitting in the bowl. I have to say I learned a new tip from this video wiping down the machine with a moisture displacement to prevent rust but this was a awesome video for tips on how to summerize a snowblower. Thanks for the video and until the next one take it easy. 👍
I drained the oil before running the gas out. So I added a little bit of oil back in and ran out the gas and the engine seized. Piece of shit or did I monumentally f up?
@@GarageGear so I did add oil, just not a lot, maybe a quarter of a bottle. Ran the mower for maybe 10-15 minutes then it stopped. Costco ended up taking it back thankfully but just wondering if running an engine on that amount of oil would literally ruin the entire machine or was it more a lemon-the mower was only a year old!
@@bluesdemitra38 my guess is that it probably didn’t have enough oil. Definitely want to make sure there is a recommended amount in there before running it. Glad to hear they took it back.
@@GarageGear it’s just crazy I’ve heard of way bigger engines going months and years with little oil and didn’t seize up…so bummed it took 12 minutes to ruin the machine
