No disrespect to lifters who love to shout and get loud to hype themselves up but seeing a man calmly explain technique while pulling insane weight just hits different.
Man that dynamic setup makes so much sense. I need to try this. Going up a bit first with the hips , holding on to the slack with the arms and then down and through with the hips 💪💯 My slack pull is so inconsistent, this is worth a try! Thanks for sharing champ!!!
Your technique is very interesting . It so diffrent from what the super wide spread the floor method. I'm going to try your stacked method and see how it works for me.
@@Pedro-sq6gq I'm new to lifting been deadlifting for 4 months now and after a lot of trial and error I naturally moved to a stacked position where my shins are vertical. I don't have the mobility to create enough leg drive with spread out legs. Now I discovered Jamal and feel like if I copy the details of his lift, I'll be much more efficient cz I'm still really slow off the ground.
Man, you are the greatest sumo lifter EVER! I'm a huge fan. Keep going, we all know that you have that 520kg sumo deadlift - SOON. Greetings from Bulgaria - the place where were born one of the greatest olympic lifters in the world.
SUMO DEADLIFTING IS DEFINITELY HARDER THAN CONVENTIONAL. I’m gonna add sumo to my workouts right after my meet on the 12th of September. High-bar squats too. I’ve always done one or the other of both, but never both lifts at the same time in my training cycle. I commented on the video you did with Stevie Cohen about how to hook-grip and sumo deadlift YESTERDAY. I was complained about the other guys that I’ve never even heard of trying to give advice when everyone only wanted to hear what you had to say. I was mad that they were all up in the video. In my opinion, they ruined it! Anyway, thank you for doing this video. I sincerely appreciate the time to put it together regardless of how difficult you say it was to make. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I will definitely do my best to implement what you have taught in this video.
Using the hips as a shovel essentially with that scooping motion makes A LOT more sense in terms of tensioning the bar. SUMO IS HARDER THAN CONVENTIONAL.
Sumo is harder than conventional. Just look how Jamal sumodeadlift and my Deadlift PR just add 10kg. From the side look, I just got how Jamal set his shin and foot position. Thank for the vedio, I learned a lot.
looking at your start position from your side made me realise how impressively efficient it is. your back is almost vertical yet your feet arent even that wide apart. i also do a similar deadlift stance to yours but my back isn't nearly as vertical so it becomes kind of like a half conventional deadlift
Have always pulled conventional. So thanks for uploading a how to sumo pull video and explaining it so well . I've been meaning to give sumo a good run in my training your vid will give me a good starting point. Thanks again. Patrick
Some great tips, thank you! Been doing traditional for a few years and I'm switching over to sumo - the important points you were making came across pretty clearly - I like the tip about the elbow and hips alignment and general hip trajectory which I could see you do once you explained it. I'll have to watch that again..
I personally think conventional and sumo are equally difficult in their own ways. Conventional works way more posterior chain while sumo is more quad based. I do conventional because I enjoy it, it feels better for me. But sumo is equally as challenging
Even tho i have some lower back issues, i got used to conventional and stuck with it, but lately I wanted to try sumo coz i felt like its gonna be my lift since I'm quad dominant. The only issue when i tried it was that the bar always hit my shins, do i just have to put longer socks? or change technique? Conventional hit my shins at start but now its way less after perfecting it.
Allenex You should move the bar over your shins regardless if you are doing sumo or conventional. Imagine pulling the bar into your body while you leg press the bar up. It helps keep the bar path in a straight line
Hey, could follow your thoughts and your visualisation were very understandable and i think it helped me in my own technigue...keep up the great work! Greetings from germany:)
Love this video my guy best advice you gave me was to act like it’s a leg press when coming off the ground. Definitely gonna get your program on my next go around and dope video.
The vertical que makes complete sense. But not sure how suitable my limbic structure is to keep shins vertical with a 45 toe angle will check it out ! Appreciate the efforts going into the content. Cheers
The first time I pulled heavy sumo I matched my conventional PB, in the same session as well... Makes me think I might be better off pulling sumo, but I just have a special affinity with conventional.
You're an absolute monster! Keep up the great work with these numbers. I wanted to ask - your upper back looks rounded when you initiate the lift. Is that usually an issue?
Really cool putting your thinking into the video :D I dont know how sumo is harder than conventional, only been training conventional. First time trying sumo i beat my conventional.
Sumo is definitely harder way for technical. I was the guy that use to hate on sumo, then my coach threw sumo in as a secondary pull and I started loving sumo, now I might make the switch. I pull very similarly to this when I pull sumo.
I recently started doing sumo deadlifts because I tore my meniscus squatting and this is a movement I can do while it is healing . And I must say I really like doing them . They really work my quads and hamstrings really wel and unlike conventional deadlifts they don’t make my back very thight and all tendens . When I pull conventional I get injured in no time but for now the sumos feel really good. I think I will keep them in my program . And yeah offcourse pulling sumo is harder then conventional but in my opinion safer , or at least for my body .
Sumo is harder than conventional. I hear some good music in your gym. You are inspiration for me to throw some weight on the bar, I will attempt 450lbs soon, nothing special but a big milestone (first 200kg) for me as an amateur. Greetings from Poland!
Sumo is harder than conventional! Been doing sumo for about 4 weeks now, and there’s a significant difference between my conventional weight compared to my sumo.
Thanks for this awesome video man! It would be really beneficial for your channel if you put each warm up weight your doing on screen in all of your videos.
good work man! Im thinking of buying your powerlifting program. Im kinda a new beginner that wants to get stronger and have a decent body. What program should I buy?
I think sumo is just different not necessarily easier . I can do about the same on both . I would say conventional strengthens the lower back more and probably beats you up a little more but the sumo strengthens the hips , quads more . All are important
9:22 Jamal turned to Ricardo Milos xD, but hey.. I am rewatching it now and was even before. Many many times. Thanks Jamal for the video. This really helped me a lot
Hey man, I'd like to hear what you think about super wide sumo. I pull sumo too and it's as wide as yours but I saw so many people having to move their toes inward before dropping the weight because their stance so wide. And there is so little leg drive. I'm all for technical lifting but that is damn near cheating imo.
It’s a no brainer to train sumo, recruits more muscle and strengthens the hips. Still need to train conventional to strengthen lower back tho. Gotta train both.
