Guys just one more month left!!! Make sure you plan out your time wisely! Example: doing hw / studying for quizzes/exams (Especially finals!! And if you're still going to take an AP assessment, study for that too!), College deadlines!! (enrolling in classes, sending things in, etc), personal time, and then cosplay!! Just an old lil lady passing by here to help ya out! ('specially seniors!)

My advice for con-crunch: 1. Clothes/Outfit > props. Do your clothes first, then your fancy weapons (if you have both still unfinished). You can still be the character you want to be by wearing your outfit, but just walking around with a sword at the convention won't do the same for you. 2. Don't forget your attachments! This goes out to all armor-loving-people: Do not forget to plan some time for making the belts and strings that will hold your armor in place. Your stuff may look finished and making it may have been the major part of your work, but it still needs to be put on you somehow. Do not underestimate that. 3. Try to rather finish whole costumes, instead of forcing yourself to do 3 at the same time, with the risk of having 3 unfinished costumes, instead of maybe one or two who are actually wearable to the convention. Don't hesitate to give up on parts of your cosplay plans for the con crunch.

Am I the only one that finds Bubble baths more stressful than relaxing? I mean, trying to maneuver to get your head under water to wash your hair, getting soap in your eyes constantly, trying to avoid any body part being above water cause it's wayyy too cold, and the fear of falling asleep and hurting yourself.

who washes their hair in a bubble bath tho?? i only wash my hair in showers
@Grrimbark
@Grrimbark 8 лет назад
But you have to get your hair clean somehow! Its way too wasteful to drain a full tub of water and then run a shower just to wash your hair.
@MangoSirene
@MangoSirene 8 лет назад
Just take your bubble bath on a day when you're not washing your hair. o____O (You shouldn't wash your hair every single day anyways, it's very damaging!)

A way to help with Con crunch is: START EARLY I have a con in about two month and I already have my Mettaton Pecies cut and painted. Also instead of spending $100 dollars on a Soul Eater Evans costume, save that money for the con and use an alternative route called the Thrift Store. It helps alot. Trust me.

One way I'm trying to avoid con crunch this year is to have monthly craft hangouts at my place where I invite a bunch of friends and we essentially pressure each other into working on stuff - it's hard not to get things done when everyone around you is painting/sewing/wig styling/etc! Plus it's fun (and educational) to see how everyone works on their costumes!

About making sure you're eating: EAT SOME PROTEIN. Not just instant noodles. A bowl of salt won't help you. Get some chicken or eggs or beans or peanut butter or hell make a protein smoothie just make sure you get some protein

Word of advice- Planning for a con? Start as EARLY AS POSSIBLE. While not a convention thing, I was working on a big animation project. I started 6 months before the date I had to post it because I knew I'd procrastinate. And I still ended up spending the weekend before finishing it. The same goes with my cosplay, some friends and I are planning a week of cosplay towards the beginning of summer, and if you'll excuse me I need to go order my APH Ukraine wig because if I wait any longer, I'll be paying a small fortune for 2-day shipping on Amazon.
@MATAJADAN
@MATAJADAN 7 лет назад
Hey, remember when I said that thing earlier? Well, it's 11 days until said con, and I just ordered my wig today. For a completely different character. My sewing machine is out of alignment, I have play auditions, and rehearsals to do. I don't even really know how to sew, and I've got a pile of fabric sitting in front of me that is sadly not in the form of a costume. Whoops.

One time I was making a very detailed Sneasel (Pokemon) costume, the convention was only 2 days away, I was too focused on another costume that I forgot about it. Since I had a ton of homework I had to do it at 11:00 PM. I told myself to take a break to eat and remember to sleep, but that didn't go as planned. I was so stressed about getting the costume done that I completely missed eating and sleeping and when I finished the costume it was 6 AM... It was the most frustrating cosplay I ever put together. But at least I got it done XD

I experienced con crunch for the first time when I made my Sebastian Michaelis cosplay. I know, doesn't sound too bad but get ready to have a heart attack: I didn't know how to use a sewing machine. It would be my first ever cosplay and my first ever convention. I was finishing the sleeves and sewing on buttons by hand the night before the con!
@koji6745

Izumi Hanjinozuka darling the usual thing is to finish it either 20 minutes before the con, or *during the con*
@Animekippgirl

The tip about knowing when to quit is so true. My first cosplay I ever made was Colette from Tales of Symphonia and I was trying to get her done the night before a con and by 1am I decided to leave her for another con. I was making mistakes and the blue trim I was attacking was getting sloppier and sloppier. So yeah which would you rather? The disappointment that you don't get to wear or the horror of walking around in a half a$$ed and rushed costume.

I've never personally gone through con crunch because I always ensure that I will have the time to make what I'm planning, the money for materials, and that I already have planned out absolutely every single task I need to complete in an exact order. HOWEVER....I always end up getting involved with my FRIENDS' con crunches, even if they are hours away and I'm trying to give them tips and skyping them at 3 am so they don't fall asleep. And while I don't know what a personal con crunch is like, I do know that it's extremely stressful when you are seeing a friend struggle to glue their armsocks and you can't actually hold the fabric for them in that one spot they can't seem to reach 👎
@atlasd.7556
@atlasd.7556 8 лет назад
+Sarah Williams (Ashten) Con crunch is a living hell. The night before Ichiban con I had to make Korra's pants within 2 hours and help my older sister glue on stars for her cosplay. I think I had 4 hours of sleep that night. So keep it up with your schedules.

I wish I could like this a million times. My friends and I have been cosplaying on and off for about 10 years and the con crunch definitely creates unnecessary stress. I'm one of the few who actually likes to start my costumes at least a month or two in advance, but my friends all procrastinate until the week before. Sometimes I want to tell them that it's not fun being around them when they're running on 6 hours of sleep for the week and they're freaking out at every one and every thing, but I know that would lead to them spazzing out at me. As someone who deals with people who put themselves through con crunch all the time, PLEASE EAT AND GET SOME SLEEP. Your body, your friends, and everyone else at the convention will thank you.

You are absolutely killing it with this look. That color coordination tho. A tip I have that I learned from watching a friend suffer just this last week is: Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you have some friends who don't have their own costumes to work on, ask if they can come over and help cut out a waistband or iron something for you while you do the bigger tasks, like sewing. My friend had to complete 6 skirts in one week and those skirts still wouldn't be done if they had been completely alone. Even if it's just picking you up some food or hanging out with you while you work, I think having someone around to keep you sane is a pretty good idea.

My favorite part about con crunch to do lists is the AMAZING satisfaction I feel as I cross something off. My list may have 95 things on it, and I may only have 4 days left, but once those black sharpie lines start covering my page it is the best feeling IN THE WORLD

I've got a con coming up this weekend and back in December I had an idea. A month or two ahead of time, put on some cosplay vlogs and get yourself hyped. Listen to your favorite soundtrack or re-watch the thing you're cosplaying from. Start your con-crunch a month early and see how much you can get done in that week. Don't run yourself into the ground of course, but try re-igniting that excitement well before the con rolls around so you can be motivated to finish it. If you're a worry-ridden workaholic like me, save a couple of small OPTIONAL projects for the week before. If your character has a prop they might carry but don't have to, save that for this time, that way you can keep yourself occupied but if you don't finish it, it's no big deal.

i'm not a super experienced cosplayer but i have been in a con crunch and getting help from others is really good. My mother helped me sewing the last parts of my costume because I wasn't that fast back then. We shared some tasks and I got my cosplay done in time AND i still had enough sleep for the convention that was ahead of me. Don't hesitate to ask for help it is not a shame if you haven't done your cosplay ENTIRELY by yourself!

You sort of touched on this, but when I make a to do list, I like to separate it into things I HAVE to do and things that I'd like to do. I often find my to do list halves because of this, as do my stress levels, when I realise that a bunch of the things left are desirables that can wait until next time.

Another tip is if you know your going to hammer out your cosplay in the hotel room Friday night don't be afraid to leave the con early on Friday to give yourself more time, this is usually the cheapest day and normally super dead! Good luck!

con crunch is addictive. Every con I spend the week before frantically working on my/my siblings' costume while shooing away cats and dogs, with netflix playing in the background. Fortunately I'm pretty good at taking care of myself until the day before the con. I usually spend the morning of the convention finishing costume pieces and sewing on the drive there XD

Rule of thumb: if you can upon starting a costume, estimate twice the time you think it will take to make it to allow for mistakes. My brain is very detail orientated, so I have learned when making things to let go when I reach the "con ready" point. My initial costume runs always lead to tweeks, so I have learned to let go of things being absolutely perfect the first go. It has save much time and heartache.

I found that while having a cosplay workshop with friends is fun it can really slow you down! So don't except to get a whole lot done.

Awesome video Nina :D My biggest tip to go along with con crunch is prioritise! When making a list of all the things you need to do, put them in order of most important to least important! That way you can get the bulk of your costume done without spending time you don't have on small details. Small details come after eating, sleeping and hygiene

Con crunch is the real deal, we arrived at our hotel at 3 am for Denver Comic Con this year due to our procrastination the night before. It's the smallest little things that add up and consume the most time at the end of a costume. Definitely a learning experience.

I've encountered two con-crunches, plus a Halloween crunch. One thing that always helps is having a good work area. Working somewhere loud, where you know you're going to be distracted is a huge hindrance. Also try and keep your space clean. I have spent time looking for fabric, paint brushes, papers, pins and so much stuff in the mess I had created.

It's also always okay to ask for help especially at the dark time of con crunch. (Maybe if a friend or relative already finished their costume, they can help with wigs or sewing)

From my fiancé, Brian: I'm getting ready for a gaming convention, and have been freaking out about my DnD campaign that I'm going to be running at it. Almost all of your tips in this video not only apply t o my hobby, but ARE SO HELPFUL. THANK YOU!

this is why I feel too different from other cosplayers haha. I always planned my costume usually a year or so in advance unless I know it can be done in a week. that way I avoid con crunch because I ain't got time to freak over a costume lol

I'm already having nightmares of not finishing my cosplays for Anime North and having to resort to wearing my old homestuck cosplays all weekend ;-;

The most motivating thing that ever happened to me was when I had a nightmare about wearing my unfinished costume at a masquerade contest. I was stalling so hard on my costume because basically everything was a brand new technique to me and I was scared of messing up so I worked really effing slow. In the nightmare I literally had to hold my costume on to keep it from falling off. Also the bathroom where I was putting on my makeup was haunted. A horrifying wake up call indeed.

I have really bad anxiety, last minute stuff like a crunch is too much for me to handle mentally, I dont mind doing a few last minute touches, but I'm def one of those people, if it's not done by con season, I'll set it aside for next con season.

I'm in con crunch right now! I'm going to a huge con two weeks from now and am working on armor for Saber from the Fate series. I have her sword completed, panels cut sealed and ready to paint, a template for her chest armor and haven't started the gauntlets yet since I'm on spring break and will need help from a friend to get them to fit my hand (hard to make them when you have to wear one XD). I've accepted the reality my gauntlets might not be finished in time but everything has gone somewhat smoothly so far since I'm using familiar materials. Wish me luck!

I utterly failed at Saber's armour last year and ended up giving up and just going in the blue dress (which I had a LOT of help with). I'm trying armour again this year with Erza from Fairy Tail since the breastplate is more straightforward. Best of luck with your armour :D

This was very helpful! Im sadly starting to think I ordered the costume I wanted too late and I was really looking forward to wearing it. But luckily I do have a backup costume I can wear and I shall be okay. Everything is put together and I can still have a great time. It just sucks because I really want that other costume to come in. Thanks for the tips about con crunch Mango! I shall be at Sakura Con in 2 weeks and this will be the greatest weekend this year.

Also you should put your effort more on the parts that are important. Like, you can still use the costume if you didn't finish the prop, but you cant wear it if you don't get pants done even if you have super amazing prop

the best piece of advice that anyone can take from this video is that cosplay is fundamentally a hobby that should be fun! if you're not enjoying yourself, or you're always pulling all nighters, or you're crying from stress, step back and focus on your personal wellness! :)

Con crunch is exactly what I'm trying to avoid this year by starting my cosplay six whole months in advance. Suffice to say I've learned my lesson...
