I’m a single mom of five kiddos -life happens- and started Nursing School this year! Time management, letting go of crap you can’t control, delegating chores etc are all ways that help me . At the start of each semester just look at your life in a 16 week segment (or whatever the case is). The sacrifice’s and cutting back you make each semester will pay off in huge ways! Single mom/dad, married whatever your situation, remember you made it to Nursing School and that’s a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT so keep working hard! Appreciate your raw honest videos Alyssa, it motivates me to keep going! Thank you!
I just applied to nursing school, and waiting to be accepted. I’m a single mom of two teens. I’m so scared and freaked out for when I get accepted, how to manage my time with kids, school and part time job. I struggled with balance with the prerequisites 😭 I know this will be 10x worse. I’m trying to enjoy the summer break before school starts, but I feel I’m waisting my time worrying, that I’m not enjoying my time off.
I also had a baby during nursing school. At first I was freaking out because I thought my dream of being a nurse was over. But after I gave birth, I held her in my arms, and realized what a blessing the baby is in my life. She brought me so much joy and has also motivated me so much to get through school. ♥️
You motivate me to start nursing school 🙌🏼 I’ve been holding off because I’m scared and don’t know what to expect 😅 I don’t want my family to fall apart.
I honestly feel like the hardest thing about being in nursing school when you're a parent, is the intense mom guilt you feel over not being able to spend enough time with them. Im really struggling with this at the moment with my son and all my classes. :(
Needed this entirely. 21 years old with a 10 month old and an amazing bf and I’m working on the process of getting into an LPN program. I’m nervous because college didn’t work out for my so well the first time I attempted it, but I’m hoping this time will be better.
I adore your videos! I’m 28 and recently decided that nursing is my calling. It’s been awhile since I’ve gone to school and I’ve been SOAKING in every single video of yours that has to do with nursing ❤️ I have two girls, and I’ll have to commute two hours every day. But the *good* part about that is my kids will be in school in that town while I am, and I’ll be forced to stay there until their class lets out, so I have zero excuses for not studying in between classes while waiting for them to get out of school! I know it’s going to suck some days, but as someone who takes time to really absorb information, it’s really something im thankful for.. and that’s just for my pre-reqs 😳
Love that I found this channel!! I'm a LPN but about to start RN school. I have an almost 4 year old and I'm 20 weeks pregnant with our second girl. Thanks for the tips!
I’m awaiting my nursing school response which I get by the end of this week!🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I have four kids ages 15-20 months old and I’m 41 years old and feel like this talk of semester one being like Bootcamp is sending me to the looney bin 😩. I hope this is doable and I won’t lose my sanity BC after these videos , to be honest , I’m scared 😟. I believe Jesus put me on this path and has continually opened doors for this to happen so I know He 🙌🏻🙏🏻 will get me through this
I’m finishing my pre reqs and hopefully start nursing school in January. The mom guilt is real! Right before I started classes I deleted all social media (is RU-vid social media?? Lol) and that has helped me tons to be present with my kids! I also homeschool my oldest and have two younger kids so I HAVE to be present during school time and then I have to give the babies time too. It was overwhelming with social media!
I try to delete social media also, but it’s hard because I work on social media! The balance is a struggle but I find that I’m way happier when I ditch social media!
Having a baby in June and starting nursing school in August🙃 Thank you so much for this video! This makes me feel much better knowing that other people can do nursing school with a kid! Thank you so so much!
I just stumbled upon your channel and love this video! I always have said the same thing! "If mama ain't happy, no one is!" That's the truth! Nursing student with 4 kids, spouse and pt job. It's tough but definitely doable!
I really like things that pull double duty. My son likes to sit on a big piece of paper and I’ll push him all around the house. Gets your heart pumping and good quality time. He is 2 so results may vary.
Being a mom to a boy who likes a lot of attention is what makes me nervous starting nursing school. You have eased some of my worries. I just hope my fiancé and son can bare with me through this crazy journey.
Glad I found your RU-vid I'm a mom, wife and going to school. Eventually going into nursing school and I feel old compared to all the other students going back to school.
30 year old mom here starting nursing school in January and I too have so much mommy guilt and stress about my house and cooking dinners. I’m terrified/excited but it’s happening! Thank you so much for your insight and advice!
I have searched and searched for a nursing preparation video that I could relate to and then I found YOU. I am getting ready to start nursing school and I have two small children (boys) #highenergy. I appreciate your authenticity in your video and the encouragement you have provided for me to continue to pursue my dream even as a Mom. Thank you! P.S. I have subscribed!
I begin nursing school in January.. We have 3 kids but all of them are in school (well, one goes to daycare, starts pre k next fall)... My husband is a paramedic and works 48 hour shifts... I’m nervous to start but I’m so glad I have a fantastic support system and a friend who just finished the same nursing program 😂
I start school in 3 weeks! I have 3 kiddos, 12,7,3. I have already began decluttering my home and have made my kids help me out on things they didnt before. I communicate with them about almost everything, so I have mentally began preparing them for when I go to school. I try to give them as much attention and time as I can now and just soak up the moments. I'm getting them used to going to the park (free) instead of having to pay for fun. Cutting down on snacks and name brand foods etc. Ya know ...little things.
I love that I found your channel! I’m starting my second semester of the nursing program tomorrow, I have a 2 year old wild boy and I’m 24 weeks pregnant. My husbands in law enforcement and our schedule as a family is insane. But we get by! Loved the segment of the video on mom guilt because that’s my biggest struggle. Love you and your family and congrats on finishing school! 💙💙💙
I start 3rd semester tomorrow. Loterally same situation as you except add a kid and not prego! Good luck with your program and I hope you have a beautiful delivery!
Meredith Morgan hi meredith! I’m also starting my first semester and I currently have a 2 month old, a 2 year old, and a 6 year old. Talk about hectic!
I just ran into your comment & woah! I might be starting nursing school in August, I have a 1 year old & my partner & I wanted to try for another one around September (planned lol) So I might be pregnant during school! Since this post was 3 years ago, do you mind sharing how you did it pregnant through clinicals and studying, if you don’t mind! TIA!
I am currently in Term 3 out of 5 of nursing school. I have a 2.5-year-old and balance of life as a mom, wife, and student has been quite the challenge but I have never been happier! My advice is to find others in your cohort to study with, I get together with a few from my group and we talk things over and test one another. Using ZOOM the conferencing site is sooo helpful for group calls! Thanks for your video Alyssa, really like that you give us all some confidence for this crazy journey we are all in. Also how was the NCLEX? Will you do a video on your preparations and tips?
I'm soooo happy I found you on RU-vid. I'm taking on my nursing degree with miss 5, miss 3 and miss and no childcare. So far so good but I'm going at snail pace here but my grades are good and I'm on my way. As the girls get older I'll take on more but gahhh sooo hard.
Yes! Also you have to utilize your village! All those people who offered to babysit when you had a squishy newborn? Call them up! Your kid gets to go somewhere new and fun and you get an hour or two to study! It is lifesaving!
What every wife needs to know: 6:09 "I had to get over myself and realize he can't read my mind" loool, literally what saved my marriage and brought back my sanity
I know this is an old video but this is super helpful thank you! I was in nursing school in 2018-2019 and I had 3 kids, i was doing pretty well but it was super hard on my husband and family cause I was always the one to take care of everything like you, and suddenly the roles had to change and it caused a huge strain on our relationship, I became pregnant again so I decided to just take some time off and focus on my family and pregnancy and new baby. I’m going back to nursing school this fall and I’m really excited but I just wanted to better prepare myself and my family since I know what to expect now, the to do list is such a good idea.
Just doing pre-requisites right now but I have a toddler, a deployed spouse, no family nearby, I have ADHD, and am in therapy once a week 😅 it’s. so. fun. I’m beyond exhausted.
Yes! You go mama 🙌🏼❤️😭 I’m a single mom of one child and I’m starting my nursing program this August!! I’m so nervous but I know I can do it! I’m doing it to be able to give her a better future 💯
The struggle doesn’t stop after nursing school especially when you’re a parent. You’re going to find that your 12hr shifts are not 12 hr shifts they start turning in to 13-14 hr shifts.
Thanks you're awesome l! I'm applying to nursing school this February, I'm a mom of 3. I'm so ocd with having everything neat and clean, but this past semester I let it be a mess until each exam was over.
Thumbs up to you for surviving Alyssa. I wish my brain could have handled nursing school. I was happy to get my associates. Calendars are so helpful. My phone is my memory. Men love to interrupt. I should definitely do everything the night before. I can’t wake up in the morning. No guilt girl, your kids are loved. Alexa myob. Your hair looks great.
Thank you so much for this! I’m entering and accelerated nursing program this fall with 3 kids (currently they are 5months 2, and 14) and I am nervous as hell! Like how am I going to do this!
Did we just became best friends? No but for real, I don’t think I’ve ever commented on a RU-vid video, or even felt compelled to comment. Yet here I am. Just accepted a seat in an accelerated BSN program that starts this fall, and am for real starting to panic as a toddler-mom with 1700million tons of mom-guilt just finishing pre-reqs this semester. Amazing husband who has been crazy-supportive already, but I don’t think we have ANY idea what we’re in for. I’m currently on the hunt for a rent-a-grandma who can just, like, move in. For free. 😂 For real though, THANK you for this video! Definitely going to heed your advice!
This is just what I needed to hear! I’m a mom of 3, and start nursing school in March and I already feel guilty about be away, and not having the house clean...etc. I don’t feel alone thank u for these tips. I’ll re watch this when It’s closer to March 😅
Huge thank you for this video. I’m a stay at home mum if 3, I work as a career for my mum about 5 hours a week, work as a social media manager 4 hours a week, I just stopped my makeup artistry business as of 3 days ago (still have a few more bookings but not taking on any new ones) because I’m second year in a bachelor of education degree here is South Australia. I have been struggling with the guilt factor, with the issue of a untidy house and having to do it all. I have been watching your bids for a while and think you’re amazing. My kids are 9, 7 and 2 and I’m stressed about having to do placements while having a toddler. Don’t know how you did yours but you’re an inspiration! Thank you ❤️❤️
thank you for this! im returning to school in January for my A.A.S. degree. I'm actually pregnant now and baby will be 5-6 months when i go back to nursing school. So excited!
Mine are 25,22,20,17 I tried while they were small. Hubby was a deputy at the time and two were sick. 25 years later Hubby retired and I'm going back hopefully this fall to finish prerequisites. Your the Bomb Mommy for doing it with small kids.
Great video! We have 7 kids, 5 are still younger.. (Oldest two are 18 and 19).. It's HARD.. I struggle. Between scouts and violin and running around after school, dinner, homework, etc.. It's nonstop. I feel like I never sit down! I worry that it will all be too much and I wont finish. My husband works 7am to 530pm so really all the kid stuff is on me. I worry once clinicals start I wont have the support I need to make it.
I was looking for a video like this! Going back to school to get a master degree after years and marriage and kids. Im trying to be as prepared as possible. Thank you! I know it’s years later but how helpful is this and you’re hilarious, so win win ❤️👍🏾🤗
Thank you for your tips!! I’m trying to get into my school’s nursing program in the fall and have two kids and a husband. My mom also lives with us. My husband doesn’t seem to realize the time commitment school is going to take. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos. Thank you again.
I start nursing school in August..have already started implenting subtle changes for my family so they will be good to go by the time I start. (hopefully) lol
You always make awesome videos. Can i suggest for a different cleaning/tidying video? I suggest trying to sorr and clean using Mari Kondo style. I think you will love it lol. Have a great week Alyssa 😊
I’m a single mom of one with a very supportive ex but no real support system. I’m starting my RPN program in the spring, and I’ve been in Pre-health since September. I’m so nervous 😩😩😩 hearing how hard it is from people who are in much better circumstances (no kids, live at home, nothin crazy going on) is terrifying me. I hope I can stick it out because I have a huge passion for the medical field.
I’m starting nursing school in the end of August and my baby is due in the end of October, I’m so nervous😞 but at the same time super determined to do everything I can. is this even possible?
You are brave mama, my twins were born at 24 weeks and I want to be a nurse but I'm absolutely traumatized of our NICU experience, I never want to step foot in a NICU again.
I recently got accepted into two nursing programs, a dual degree and straight BSN. I really don't know the difference because with both, there both a bachelor's. Can you give any recommendations on which is better?
I’m a single mom trying to become something for myself and my 2 year old. I don’t have family here where I live. I want to go to school but I have to work too so ..I’dk what to do. Ugh
Yeah I have a 3 year old, 4 year old and a 5 month old. I was going into pre med for 4 years then on to med school. And I decided that was a big no no. My marriage was at risk so was everything. It was too much. So now I'm going into nursing school.
