Would u put pimple patch on every spot that comes out? Or just the larger ones? I'm so scared to purge hence I've not used retinoids even though i know i need to start especially with adult acne
Only the larger ones and ones that you want to cover! I also avoided any type of retinoid (over the counter and prescription) for the longest time up until approx a year ago. I started with retinol/retinAl and then moved to prescription-strength. Purging shouldn’t last more than 2-4 weeks so it seems daunting at first but it’s over before you know it, especially if you make sure you take care of your skin during this time. Not everyone purges so you might be one of the lucky ones! I’d say adapalene is a great way to start over something like tretinoin
@@chareesbeauty I'll tell u what happened to me which put off retinoids for life. Back in 2013 i got adult acne from nowhere. NHS derm put me on Epiduo told me to use it daily. I slathered that stuff on completely ruined my face. Cystic acne hell broke out all over my face & then i stopped at 6 weeks I couldn't take it. I looked awful, messed up my mental health everything so i just never looked at retinoids again until now as am better educated.
Unless advised by your dermatologist to continue use, it would be best to pause using your 20% azelaic acid until you pass through the purging phase of your prescription retinoid. As mentioned in the video, it’s as a precautionary measure as to help mitigate potential side effects of prescription retinoids when your skin is acclimatising to it
Yes, I would try to eliminate/reduce all other actives. If your regular toner/moisturiser contains small amounts of niacinamide or Vit C (for example) then it’s not a big deal but dedicated active serums to target specific skin concerns that have higher % of actives I’d recommend putting aside when you start using prescription retinoids for the first time
