Be careful! Sherman's rim has a direction! The magnets are shifted a few mm to the side where the hall sensors are located. And this is very important. If you set it the wrong side you'll get the hall sensor error while hard acceleration or hard breaking and the controller will shut down the motor while moving.

@@coolhawk2003 because the magnets are shifted few millimetres to one side and they should be closer to hall sensors otherwise you'll get an E-HALL while moving = faceplant)))

I do like, heating and let cool aluminum becomes very soft and malleable. When you bend/work aluminum it becomes hard again. I have often used this to bend the aluminum bark busters on motorbikes when they become out of shape.

Chooch I love your vids and have supported your channel cus you inspire me so much. Maybe this is just me being anxious and a perfectionist but I see a lot of problems with your method. Anything on the bottom of you shoe could fall into the motor(dirt, little metal shavings, etc). Next you could damage the motor coils with your foot technique. Lastly. The whole motor wire got smashed down directly on the group when it popped out. Which is obviously not a good thing. I have made a rim swap on an EUC as well. And the better method IMO is using a cylinder that is just wide enough to go around the motor with a whole in the middle for the axle. Then just push down with force on the rim.

Be careful to not overheat the magnets - they will demagnetize. I hope it all turned out well. It sounds like you've had a couple wild days. lol Great videos, brother!

I replaced the rim on my v12 but I installed the motor in the wrong direction. Nearly crapped myself when I turned it on and it went full speed, but luckily I was holding it off the ground. I'll re-assemble it tomorrow, hopefully I didn't burn anything.

This bend in the rim was not really significant: probably wouldn't have affected the tire. I would leave it be instead of trying to bend the rim back, because it increases the risk of crack and that's worse. The tool you use even leaves clear dents in the aluminum. Not sure it's a hack that should be recommended. Agree about being super careful with these strong magnets tho! I prefer to have the rim and stator aligned instead of at an angle when putting them back together tho.

Noting view of other EUC rims ending up cracked. I simply went along with the description of it being a "cheep" wheel/rim. Regardless, what would cause a rim to end up becoming cracked?

So I just pulled the motor out of my ks16x, what keeps the motor centered? The motor is sucked closer to one side touching/rubbing against the magnets on the rim. So what keeps them from grinding when I put it all back together??

The dozens of screws that hold the cover plates are what keeps it centered.

There is an easier way. Put a rubber malet under the center of the motor and push down forcefully on the rim. The motor will "pop" out. In your case, just use the axle and press down. Yes, wear gloves, the magnets are powerful and will "suck" the motor back into the rim when you're reinstalling. I like your reinstalling technique.

I saw a clip of a guy doing this to a couple kids hoverboards and making a scooter with 3 or 4 motors on it :-) it's not rocket surgery but it *is* surgery.

it's useful to get a small/cheap benchtop anvil from harbor fright so you can proper mash it against a mandrel. most of the little hammers I bought off amazon came with multiple faces so you could change between hardnesses. small deadblow mallets with shot/sand are super helpful as well. Everything I just listed cost less than fiddy bucks all in lol its not expensive to get the right stuff on your bench and if you break one that means you did the work and you need to buy a better one. :-)
