Decided to open the Sherman and see if i could update to the newer rim and hangers. While I was at it, I mounted a pirelli angel scooter tire. Test ride and opinion to come...

Happy to help. Im finding 20psi to be my sweet spot so far. Im 130lbs and rode at 20psi on the ohter tire as well. The Angel seems it wouldnt mind going even lower. I ran 15psi, but it started to take more input and 20 felt right. Keep checking back, I hope to do a video ride with my uneducated opinion, soon.

Arrow is in right possition, but you need to mount tire backwards. Thats because your tire is front bike tire. Front tires is always mounted in reverse position, to reduce vibrations/wobblings. So for the bike arrow is correct, but we need a traction wheel, so it should be mounted as rear bike wheel - backwards

@@arcrides6841 They, who? Nah man, this was the first time I'd messed with it. Not much support for working on these. I dont think any how to's were out about the rim/motor yet either. Turn wrenches long enough, you either lose fingers or learn to recognize how not to. I dunno if the motor would lop a finger off or not. I'd go from the bottom tho, so you can see the alignment. No need to lower it by the wires and hope you get it straight. Don't want the weight/stress on the wires anyhow, specially when the rim becomes part of it. Id imagine if you align it badly enough, it could chip a magnet or loosen one as it's snatched into the magnetic field.

interesting, and I don't doubt that it has something to do with wear characteristic. I read something about that and cyclic vibration caused on 2wd vehicles, if treaded same direction. I'm not sure how yours scenario applies to single wheel pavement vehicles, but tis good to know. Perhaps the direction pirelli claims is 'forwards' is actually backwards and they marked it for this very reason? Thanks!

I went with VERY little and weatherstrip, as I've had rtv clog an oil pump before and I've been nervous ever since. Im sure RTV is fine, just be gentle with it. I used medium strength thread locker and torqued in criss cross pattern. My guess is somewhere around 20ftlbs. TIght, but chinese screw tight. It rides more solid and smoother on the sherm than my original. Its more of a motorycycle tire feel, rather than a thin bicycle tire. I've had no problems from mine and its wearing very slowly. Just be prepared for it to be a little more sensitive to turn in. I could see if a newbie tried one, it would end in a little more wobbles, untli they figured it out.

@5:33 RTB? IT PULLS? Care to explain, jag no idea pulling the plug could sort the driver and how can you pull a 3.5mm out "the wrong way"?
@shanesplanetshane3795
@shanesplanetshane3795 2 года назад
"while powered", would be considered the wrong way. The nature of a trs plug means the plug will bridge connections as you plug it in or unplug it. MOST electronics are designed so the 'bridged' connection, doesnt cause a short that can destroy electronics. I read reports that the trs on the sherm, was NOT wired correctly, and pulling the plug while powered, can result in damage. Its a stupid and elementary design flaw, if its true. I havent bothered to check the wiring for validity on the Sherman plug wiring. *RTV Room temperature vulcanizing compound.

@shanesplanetshane3795

Just a few slight differences. Unicycles don't suffer from weight shift in the same fashion as a motorcycle. There's also no trailing tire on a unicycle, which changes water patterns. Unicycles dont track quite the same as a steer nor a drive tire on a motorcycle.

All my stands are purple. The one I used for the sherman is a simple adaptation/resize of a design you can find on Thingiverse. Its not a very good one for the sherm tho, as its a pain to center it up when storing. It also cost near a KG in materials on conservative settings. Thanks for watching!

You also lost some top speed if outer diameter/circumference changed for smaller (or maybe it will just get closer to max rpm) and motor controller is (maybe) made for a specific rolling circumference, so might not behave like before (who knows maybe better).
@shanesplanetshane3795
@shanesplanetshane3795 3 года назад
That occured to me. I do think the 10mm difference will be less than that, as the tire doesnt sag as much now. I also dont think the sherm is 'speed' limited, more like power limited. If thats the case, highest speeds shouldnt be effected much.
@bigbadboogie6842
@bigbadboogie6842 3 года назад
@@shanesplanetshane3795 i think its rpm limited due to hall sensors (like most other wheels). Thats why you have an unloaded free spin limit around 100km/h, it's a very low power draw to spin the rim+tyre to 100km/h compared to propell 90+Kg driver to 70km/h with both friction, mass and air resistance. But if its 10mm on diameter its pretty easy to calculate. And easy to conpensate for speed and distance in euc world :-) 10mm diameter difference should pan out to about 2% error on speed and distance if outer diameter is 18". So likely no loss in top speed, just closer to max rpm by a bit :-) basically the difference between running a knobby that is finished and a new one.
@shanesplanetshane3795
@shanesplanetshane3795 3 года назад
@@bigbadboogie6842 Free spin is defnitiely limited. I think loaded top speed is limited by other factors BEFORE free spin top speed is achieved. Your math is right, but you also have to account for the LOADED rolling distance per revolution. It does seem the off road has more sidewall defelction at given pressure and weight. This could easily mitigate the height differences. Im not overly concerned about the precise math, as I am aware of too many variables, and theres many others Im unaware of. ROlling resistance between the tow tires, could skew our well thought out math as well. At any rate, Im not trying to sqeeze a mph or two on the top end. I coudl prbably offset all the math by simply inflating the street tire. It DOES take off like a rocket at 35psi, MUCH more than the knobby would. Thanks for the response, good info in there!
