This one is to show how to replace JUST THE FACEPLATE of a 2006-2010 era GMLAN radio. A cost effective way to repair a broken radio display panel or replace a broken AUX jack on late model Chevrolet Cobalt/Chevrolet HHR vehicles and other similarly equipped GM vehicles. Does not require theftlock to be disabled

It works on a Chevy express I did it. if you have the based model with no aux or cd doing this will give you the option to get those

What if I wanted to put a radio with the usb feature in my car that originally only had the aux cable option how would I do that? Also if I got a face plate from a Chevy which the buttons have blue lights and put it in a Pontiac which are red lights how would I change that?.

So both radios from cobalt and hhr are identical? I'm looking for an aftermarket one thats pnp. And found a nice one. Says its for 07 hhr. Was told it won't work in my 07 cobalt

Although they are the exact same radio you can't put one from a junkyard HHR in your Cobalt because it would be Theftlocked once removed with a code only GM can provide (at a cost). You'd have to have it re-programmed to match your car, this vid just explains how to swap the faceplate if yours gets broken

I read that you should disable airbags when working on this area of your vehicle, would you say that’s necessary for this repair?
@jimmyjimjims7483

Not necessary, you could disconnect the battery if you wanted but we're only touching the radio display here which does not control the airbag SRS system in any way. The only way you could set off an airbag is by tripping the actual sensors (located on the crashbar and in the door pillar) or physically activating the airbag by installing it with power still connected

Can you use one from the chevy malibu?
@jimmyjimjims7483
@jimmyjimjims7483 4 года назад
The Malibu has the square edges on the radio unlike the Cobalt/HHR so it will work but it won't fit in the radio trim

What if you didn’t watch any videos an unplug the radio
@jimmyjimjims7483
@jimmyjimjims7483 2 года назад
In these Chevy Cobalt/HHR models if you unplug the radio completely they lock up and require a code to be reactivated, that's why I didn't unplug it in this video to avoid that. You can get the code from a Chevrolet dealer but they'll have to reset the radio for it to work.

😂he thinks he’s screwing GM like they didn’t design the radio to change faceplates
@jimmyjimjims7483

I am screwing GM, they have the nerve to charge $150 to give me the code for the radio if I replace it with one of their garbage oem units and doing this takes that money back out of their China owned pockets, the absolute balls GM has to ask for money for a radio code after getting bailed out with taxpayer money back when they went bankrupt is astounding. Screw them and their Chinesium
