Used so many of your videos to my advantage! Our trucks are essentially the same spec. Had been lamenting to my buddy that my truck was perfect except for the lack of cruise. Searched up your vid and you inspired me to get it done. Ordered a steering wheel and gonna grab a servo from the junkyard. Can't wait. Thanks for your hard work!
Welp, cruise doesn't work. Think I may have gotten a dud servo. Checked power at harness, ohmed it out, checked brake lights (3rd one was out/now fixed), checked underhood and in cab fused. Nada. Gonna get a new servo I reckon. Install was a breeze with your video though!
If you have an obs ford without cruise control, then it probably also does not have a tilt column. Column swaps are simple on these trucks and if you have a tilt donor just remove the column and install the whole column instead of pull the wheel. Get two upgrades with one job.
This gave me a newfound appreciation for my factory installed cruise control even though I rarely use it. Luckily the harnesses are all the same. Surely this video would be 10x as long if they weren't haha.
As usual, another great diy tutorial Stevie! Now all you need to do is locate a ford steering wheel emblem off I believe an earlier Ford F series truck or perhaps E Series van to glue it on over the molded emblem in the new steering wheel!
@@TheMinuteMasters Thank YOU. Let me ask you something, Does that Milwaukee ratchet has the ability to limit the torque as you wish? I'd like that tool but I don't want to break a thread.
@@zh9119 unfortunately, it doesn’t have the ability to reduce the torque. Milwaukee does make a torque wrench. That’s electronic and a ratchet but it’s super expensive.
That short harness without the fuse in it is the updated harness for the updated sensor. That fuses harness isn’t available anymore. At least to my knowledge, I just had to get a sensor for a truck and they gave me the short harness and updated sensor
Very good, easy to follow video! So I decided to give this a shot on my 1995 F-150. Got a used steering wheel on ebay. Got a servo and cable from a junk yard. Decided to jumper the pressure switch instead of installing the master cylinder and TSB harness. All went well, very much like the video, but the CC doesn't work. Horn works, no ABS light, brake lights work. Just looking for leads on how to trouble shoot what my problem may be. Bad steering wheel switches, clock spring, or servo? Any way to test any of these? Thanks
Ok, I thought I had an issue but I had to make deliberate pushes on the CC buttons. Then wait for it to commence. CC in these trucks isn’t as reactive as newer vehicles. So give it a test drive and see what happens.
I have a question about this, maybe I didn't understand that part of the video, 10:24, I did that, the CC cancels every time I push the brake, that's perfect! but, I can't understand why they installed that release switch. Having that fire hazard even with the new fuse harness, is it necessary to install a new master cylinder with the switch?Anyway, As I said in another comment, you're a genius, you made my whole year!
To be honest, I’m not sure how the TSB harness prevents a fire unless having an inline fuse is the key. The sensor in the master cylinder is just another safety measure. So there are three ways to cancel cruise: 1) steering wheel switch 2) switch at pedal 3) sensor at master cylinder. I think Ford installed the master cylinder sensor as a last ditch effort to cancel cruise in the event the other two systems failed.
@@TheMinuteMasters Great! that means I can leave it like that. Another horrible safety thing to consider on these OBS, the black plastic cover over the throttle bracket, it only has two small screws, if it's loose and moves over the throttle cables it'd act as a cruise control and there is no way to release it while driving. It happened to a friend of mine, he had to figure it out with the brakes and move right away to the shoulder and stop the engine after he was safe to do it. Scary.
Awesome video I came across it as I need to replace my clock spring on my 95 w/o cruise control but it seems as if my local part store option only offers the clock spring with cruise control I’m assuming since you didn’t replace the cs it should be the same… what do you advise???
I have a '96 XL. I finished the first part of the installation this morning (without replacing the brake master cylinder), replaced steering wheel, installed CC module, attached cable to throttle. I went to test it on the highway, very happy and excited! Nothing 😔I got the CC module from a junkyard, maybe that's the reason. I check all the fuses, all good. My truck has all the jumpers on connectors from factory. I'm still not sure what's the purpose of the connectors 10:07, you said the one underneath the relay box goes to the master cylinder sensor, but, the one by the driver's firewall, what's that for?. Both of them have the grey jumper from factory anyway.
So just to verify: the CC on these trucks isn’t like newer vehicles. There’s no indicator lights and it doesn’t kick in quite as fast. My first test drive felt like a failure because I didn’t know if the CC was even on. Anyhow, be sure to firmly press the “on” button and then firmly press “set”. Then give it a good 10 second for the cable to pull. If it doesn’t work try it again. If you have done this, I would test the actually servo (box that actuates cable) and make sure it’s working. Sometimes the weather seal on them broke, and the gears inside would rust together.
@@TheMinuteMasters I'm 56, yeah, I remember them lol. Yes, that's a good idea, I'll check the gears. In the area were I live, the junkyard 1990s F-150s stock is very low, specially XLTs. I have alerts from junkyards all around. I'll check on eBay for another one. They're not cheap though. Thanks!
@TheMinuteMasters You're a genius, watching the video again (it was my fault that I just saw that), I realized the connector that is attached to the lower side of the fuse box 10:06, it has a blank spout connector instead of a real one like the one by the CC module (servo). I got one from a junkyard, today I installed it, IT WORKS! There is another video that the guy splices two of the wires at the harness that goes to the CC module (servo) they're the ones who are in the brake lights circuit, so every time the brake lights are ON, the CC will be cancelled. I also read that it is not safe to do that. Anyway, without having the master cylinder replaced with the sensor, when I brake, it is canceling the CC. Good!
I don't have your email, I just sent you a picture of me to your merchandise website, wearing the MM T-shirt at Cerro 21 (2,600 ft height) Esquel, Argentinian Patagonia today where we hiked with my family (I'm visiting them from US).
Hello I was able to find everything thing I need on eBay motors but I was having some trouble finding the spout plugs? Any recommendations and where I could buy these
Great video. I have an 84 F150 with Sniper EFI installed (i.e different throttle body). It was originally carbureted. Is there still a way for me to add cruise control? Thank you!
@@TheMinuteMasters it did not come with cruise control unfortunately. I hear/see that Rostra makes an universal electronic cruise control kit, so that seems to be one option. I'd ideally prefer an OEM route if possible, but since I ripped out the computer and put in a Sniper, seems that path may be closed?
I just installed cruise control because of this video! Works great! However, no lights to indicate CC is on or in use. Perhaps steering wheel should illuminate CC buttons? 1996 F-150. Thank you.
Good question. You could relocate the cruise control wire to a set of switches on the dash. You would need to disassemble the clock spring and wiring to do that.
This video is making me itch... gotta go check out the local lkq.... but I'm curious I have a 4.9L and the 5spd will the swap still be the same if I have all the same wiring under the hood. 1995 F150 4.9L SC/SB 2WD
Figured it out. The Brake Master Cylinder float was stuck and all I did was lightly push on it until it came up. No more illuminated ABS light and Parking Brake light.
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting company for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
Off topic, I have a '94 F150 with a 4.9l. I need a new radiator, how can i tell if i have a 1 or 2 row radiator, and are they interchangeable? (i.e. i can use a 1 row instead of 2 row, and vice versa)
You should be able to all at the top and see. I kind of double it’s two. If your truck comes stock with a 2 row, then I wouldn’t reduce to a 1 row. You would lose cooling capacity.
Hey buddy, no idea how to message you and I apologize for the long message but, I’ve literally tried everything and I can’t figure out what the issue is with my speedometer. Whenever I go over 75 the speed needle jumps and when I finish driving at highway speeds my abs and brake light come on. I have rebuilt my speedo, replaced the abs sensor on the rear diff, replaced the pigtail that attaches to the abs sensor, and I checked, my truck doesn’t have a speed sensor on the transmission. No codes for the abs. Just that my front airbag sensor is not grounded. What would you recommend? Changing out the abs control module? I have a 94 f150 with the 5.0 engine 4x4
So you have read the codes and no codes are trigger for this problem? Have you fixes the ground for the airbag sensor? If you don’t have a VSS on the transmission then you should have one on the diff. I’d look at replacing that as well.
@@TheMinuteMasters i539 10 - separator code, 17 - front airbag sensor not grounded and 172 lackof heated oxygen sensor. No, I have not. I didn’t think that had anything to do with the speedo or abs.
Any idea where I can actually get my hands on a half decent cruise control steering wheel that doesn't look like it was used by an axe murderer? Everything on ebay is hot garbage.
Honestly the junkyard or a friend is your best bet. I bought this steering wheel off eBay for $140 and it looks like a squirrel chewed it in a few spots. This was one of the best looking on eBay too.
You should try to do a manual to power window conversion… I ask you because your videos are so good and detailed! You definitely have a passion for this!
