"Breathe a little bit behind you." That was the solution to my breathing woes. Trust me this little detail brings your breathing-arm coordination together. You can go faster, it's easier, more efficient, you don't tire so easily, you get more time to breathe and the whole process becomes smoother! I discovered it by mistake this past weekend and boy did I start gliding!

Thought I'd give you an update: I commented maybe 10 months ago about breathing tips. I am soon approaching the 1 yr mark of lessons in August...I can swim...and rotate...and breathe...and float...and bob...and tread (mostly-this one still gets me)...now I'm tweaking for consistency and efficiency. Thanks for your videos/tips...it's been super helpful for an overthinker like me. 👍

I'm a beginner swimmer and have invested $$ in about 2 classes each at level 1 and then intermediate. Needless to say I'm back at level 1 because they never taught me this. The video breaks down what I'm challenged with at age 63, breathing and kicking at the same time. I'm overthrowing it, but will try to incorporate what you said here.

Yes!!!! Yes, yes, yes! I go back to my class on Monday and I'm gonna try breathing behind me! Thinking back at how much water I drank, every time I turned my head I was drinking 'bow water'. My instructor says my form is really good, my legs are good, everything is good but I always drink water and it makes me stop. This little difference is all I need to finally go the whole length of the pool. As of now, I can make it about halfway, it's just that breath that messes me up.

Update:I didn't drink any water, it went very well. Now I just have to work on not trying to swim so hard. My instructor says that I'm too tense so I end up using too much energy and then I get tired way too fast. But my breath has made a drastic improvement, it's crazy how something so simple can make such a huge difference.

I’m so excited that I’ve found this channel. Your decision to commit such a large portion of your energy to teaching people how to swim is so inspiring in more ways than you think… LIFE CHANGING MAN!!! thanks for what you do and have done!!! I so bad want to be the guy who can get in a pool and swim 10-20 laps but the fact is, after 1 trip down the pool I need to hold on the edge and gather myself, by the time I make it back to where I started, I’m so physically exhausted I pretty much need to climb out of the pool and lay on the side to catch my breath. Im not sure why swimming is so hard for me as I played multiple sports pretty high up my entire youth and I’m in pretty decent shape as a 40 yr old guy. But swimming requires a HUGE amount of coordination and I just can’t seem to put it all together. Im planning to retire from my corporate job in the next 12 mos and one of my lifelong goals is to become a proficient swimmer and dedicate however much focused energy needed to accomplish this goal. I have 3 young boys and I have a strong desire for them to grow up being able to swim. Let’s be honest (if someone fell in the water beside me and was drowning…. I’d have to run and find somebody who can save them, and if it was one of my kids….. that can’t happen - all because “I can’t swim”. Your videos teach in detail all the things I’m really bad at and do incorrectly. I’m confident that I can learn and become proficient - through your videos and lessons. Thanks man!!! LIFE CHANGING for sure
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming 11 месяцев назад
I want to sincerely thank you for your wonderful comment. Your words mean a lot to me, and I'm truly glad that my videos are inspiring and helpful to you. Your determination to learn swimming and the importance you place on passing on this skill to your kids is truly admirable. Regarding the exhaustion you're facing during swimming, it's not uncommon, especially when starting out. Swimming engages various muscles and requires a different type of endurance than many other sports. Remember, it's okay to start with shorter distances and gradually build up. Focus on your breathing technique and take breaks as needed. Also, try to maintain a relaxed and efficient stroke technique. With consistent practice and gradually increasing the distance, your endurance will improve. It's never too late to learn, and I have no doubt that with your dedication and effort, you'll become a proficient swimmer. Keep watching, practicing, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions along the way. You've got this! 🏊‍♂️💪

Yes, it's gamechanger for a majority of swimmers. Most swimmers tend to breathe on the side and beginners breathe in front of them which is totally wrong. Breathing behind you is the most efficient way when swimming freestyle.

I used to try very hard to breath with one eye under the water, and that was making me struggle (and drinking half a pool in every swimming session) until I heard those words: Breath behind you. Everything changed... Now I can do 50m easily without having to stop mid-pool

I'll definitely be trying the 2 strokes instead of 3 plus looking behind me instead of to the side and see if I can make it to the deep end. I'm always able to make it to the deep end when doing the back stroke but doing the free style i might make it to where the life guards sit on their throne by the poolside so I'm hoping the 2 strokes and looking behind me will up my game🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️❤❤❤🇬🇧🇯🇲

Nice clear simple instruction, exactly what I’ve been looking for👍. . breathing technique is such an important part of swimming, particularly freestyle and have been struggling to get it right. One of the main problems I seem to have is balancing the amount of air inhaled with the amount exhaled, so will give the 2 stroke and breathe method a go. . . also great to get swimming tips from Jack Black!! Subbed from the UK 👍😎
