Master the Four Main Swimming Styles: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly.
In this video, we will guide you through the process of mastering all four of the main swimming styles, so you can swim with confidence and ease.
First, we will cover the most popular swimming style, freestyle or front crawl. Freestyle is a fast and efficient stroke that is easy to learn. We will show you how to coordinate your arm and leg movements to propel yourself forward, and the key to keeping your body as straight as possible and keeping your head down and looking forward.
Next, we will move on to the backstroke. This stroke is perfect for beginners or for those looking for a break from the more strenuous freestyle. We will teach you how to lie on your back and kick your legs while moving your arms in a circular motion, and the key to keeping your body flat and keeping your head and shoulders above the water.
Then, we will teach you the breaststroke, which is considered one of the most challenging strokes. We will show you how to coordinate your arm and leg movements to swim in a smooth and steady motion, and the key to keeping your head down and looking forward while keeping your body in a streamlined position.
Finally, we will move on to the butterfly. This is the most advanced stroke and requires a great deal of strength and coordination. We will show you how to coordinate your arm and leg movements to swim with power and efficiency, and the key to keeping your body in a streamlined position and timing your arm and leg movements correctly.
We hope that this tutorial will help you to master the four main swimming styles, so you can swim with confidence and ease. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more swimming tutorials and tips!

I’ve never been the strongest swimmer but after a terrifying incident when jumping out of a boat on holiday I lost all confidence and developed huge water phobia. Your videos have given me so much more confidence and have improved my technique. Still got a way to go to improve my water phobia of the sea (desperate to snorkel in Bali so trying to practice lots but I feel like the pool won’t prepare me enough) I wish you could come to England to prepare me! Your videos are a joy to watch, your teaching is the BEST, so simple yet entertaining! Thank you SO much, subscriber for life ❤

You're welcome Becky! I'm so glad that you're finding our videos helpful. I highly recommend you to avoid swimming in an ocean unless you have a life jacket and someone watching you all the time. Open water swimming is done under the supervision of trained lifeguards. Even by professional triathletes. Regardless, I wish you all the best on your swim journey. I'm really proud on you for not giving up despite the terrifying experience. Stay safe and happy swimming. Don't forget to subscribe and hit the bell icon to get notified about latest videos. The fact that you mention that it is best to breathe out your air as your turning to the side, makes a lot of sense. This is easier than trying to breathe bubbles while your face is under the water, prior to turning the face sideways out of the water and taking a breathe. I have just started swimming again at 67. Haven’t swam since I was in my teens. Thank you this was the instruction I needed. Clear and concise 🙏🇨🇦

I’m so glad that I found you tutorials. I didn’t learn to swim until my late 20’s after many bad experiences in lakes/pools. Also my brother drowned in a rip-current so I was very afraid of the water. It’s been about 34 years since I swam laps in a pool and I’m trying to get back to it despite some fear. I’m almost 67 and really need this because of the low-impact and great health benefits. Your videos will really help me especially your tip: don’t hold your breath. That’s the part that makes me freak out. Thanks so much.

I am a tri-athlete, prior military and a workout warrior. I crash after 50 to 150 meters. My coach instructed me to use the 4 stroke technique to breath. I adapted your 2 strokes. What a huge difference!! I did 600 meters and felt amazing. I am using your "Superman Pull and Catch". Again, huge difference. Recovery, pull and feet kicking were a bonus for me. Thank you Coach Johnny Rocket!!

From a very experienced trainer on youtube who traines olympic athlethes in Europe I learned the following (how to do 600m in opposite to sprinting) 1. Water Resistance is your enemy. 2. Gliding-Phases slow you down! Don’t stop stroking! While gliding though it feels relaxing at first, you are holding your breath!!! And the speed you lost, will make the next stroke even harder! 3. The biggest muscles are your legs! To make miles, use your legs less. Kicking hard wastes a lot of oxygen and increases!water resistance. That is *not* what you want. 4. Relax. Lay doing nothing in the water and calm down. Before you do anything, calm down! Test: If you are really *psychologically* at peace/rest, you can do 25/50 Meters with holding your breath from a break no problem. (Thats only about 30-60 f*cking seconds, right?) 5. Water is calm. Be calm like the water. Be water. Dont make a lot of waves, noise, spashing… Water runs, falls, splashes continuously. 6. Have fun! Does your own training includes games? Challenged (like how far can you go without breathing, or stroking (no joke)) 7. Don’t hurt yourself. Learn how to stroke correctly. Warm up. Correct Shoulder and Back Movement. Rest/Sleep/Eat optimized/Fast enough before training. ps learn from the best

Finally, I found a decent video with clear explanations and recommendations. I have viewed dozens of swimming videos and I have to say thank you so much. I consider myself a good swimmer before watching this video , but now, I realized that I have a lot room for improvement. ❤❤❤ . I am a petite woman in my late 50s, fit , and decided to be a great swimmer before I die 😂, I rediscovered my happy place, the water, the peace that it’s bringing me and , of course the workout. My goal is to swim 1000 m in freestyle before my 58 bday . I am not a triathlete, but I do run, cycle 🔁 and swim, I just keep moving….. daily… anyway thank you 🙏 again..

It's important to remember that open water swimming can be quite different from swimming in a pool, so it's great that you're seeking to learn the correct techniques. Remember to always prioritize safety and practice in a controlled environment. If you have any questions or need further guidance, feel free to ask. Stay safe and keep practicing!

I'm 45 and just starting to learn swimming (a friend has been helping out at an LA Fitness pool in Houston). At this point I have gotten cmfortable with water and I can say I don't have the fear to be alone in a pool. I can backstroke from one end to another no problem because the head is always above water. But I struggle with breast stroke because I am yet to master the technique of breathing out underwater and breathing in at the surface. Hopefully with practice. I really want to drive to Austin for personal training from you Rocket, you are such an amazing instructor. Appreciate all you do man!

Thank you for this! Learned to swim as a child, only breaststroke. However, I soon ended up preferring to "freedive" rather than swim on the surface and now I don't know any other swimming styles and techniques. I'll use this to hopefully become a stronger swimmer.

@@RocketSwimming thanks bro, can you give me some general tips on breathing? I start exhaling before my nose hits the water to prevent it going up my nostrils and keep doing that until I breathe again. But I feel out of breath as soon as I increase my tempo. Should I fully empty my lungs before taking a breath? I just don't know the right procedure. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out here 🙏🏻
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming 3 месяца назад
@@babackd.6485 It sounds like you're already on the right track with your breathing technique. To answer your question, it's generally a good idea to exhale fully before taking a breath while swimming. This helps ensure that you have enough space in your lungs to take in a good amount of fresh air when you do breathe. As for your tempo, try to find a comfortable rhythm that allows you to exhale fully and inhale deeply without feeling too out of breath. It might take some practice to find the right balance, but with time and patience, you'll get there! Also, remember to stay relaxed and calm while swimming. Tension in your body can affect your breathing and make you feel more fatigued. So focus on staying loose and smooth in the water. Keep up the great work, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions!

@@RocketSwimming alright, really appreciate your help man. I had a session fully focused on having a "high elbow catch" as they call it, since I noticed I'm dropping my elbow. Then I tried different kicking patterns and flip turn out of curiosity. Then worked on backstroke catch and breaststroke kick and timing. I'm heading to the pool now. Time to work on relaxed breathing and probably sinking a few times 😅

Agree with @manjuljohn 100%. @rocket swimming, I know this is a swimming channel. Can you also talk about other workout (such as weight training) that swimmers do? Besides the technique, the overall physical condition must be important for swimming too. I also see some people not in shape (not body shaming in any way) can swim well (as in long distance). How does Johnny gets such a lean/fit body?
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming Год назад
Thank you for watching our latest video on how to swim and for your comment. We also agree with @manjuljohn that besides the technique, the overall physical condition is important for swimming. Swimmers often do other types of workouts such as weight training, to build strength and endurance. Weight training helps swimmers to increase muscle mass and power, which is essential for swimming. It can also help to reduce the risk of injury. About Jonny's lean/fit body transformation. It's the result of very strict diet, fasting, hundreds of swim sessions a month, strength training & dedication. It takes a lot of discipline to achieve such transformation. I apologize that we haven't covered other workout in details in our channel yet. But we have a lot of upcoming plans for new videos, and we'll definitely keep your feedback in mind when planning our content. Regarding schedule, Jonny is currently really busy with swimming instruction sessions, but we'll try our best to post new content as often as we can. Thank you again for your support and for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to work hard to provide you with informative and useful content. - Niraj (CDO)

What is your advice for water in ears. I have apparently unique ear canals, catching water/sweat (even in spin class) What to do in the water?😊
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming Год назад
Thank you for your question! My best advice would be to use ear plugs or a swim cap to keep water out of your ears while you're in the water. If you're still experiencing issues with water or sweat getting into your ears, I would recommend consulting with a doctor or ear specialist for further advice. They may be able to offer additional solutions or treatments that are specific to your unique ear canals. I hope this helps!
