This is quite a video; very interesting. I have the same camera, and for some reason, it will kill a charged battery in one day! If I remove the battery after taking a photos, the camera works well. BTW, the shock that you got was from the electrolytic capacitor that is used for the cameras flash. You have to be sure to short it out to discharge it before touching it! Thanks again for the video.

The reason you received an electrical shock is that, even with the battery removed, the circuitry still has capacitors that will hold a charge for varying (but long) lengths of time. You can avoid getting zapped by removing the battery, then turning the device on (this works with other electronic too), then press the shutter button. This will complete the circuit and drain all the capacitors, but since there's no battery the capacitors won't recharge. BTW, I'd rather have a tear-down video with dead air than one that runs like a rabbit on meth. :)

I tried taking my Coolpix S6200 apart so I can convert the camera to capture IR and UV light. But after getting shocked twice, I stopped finished watching your video and realized, it probably wasn’t worth it. Time to build one with a Raspberry Pi. Thanks for sharing!

The shock came from that little silver capacitor that is mounted beside the lens once its not fully discharged it can still have a charge because it charged when you had a power to camera be it batteries or power chord or usb if you find the lead end and ground it to frame it should descharge but be carefull where you discharge it it can wipeout ics components its a high voltage but other than a bee sting feeling it want hurt you works on simular to a lawn mower spark but lower dose lolo this charge is used to fire camera flash

Disclaimer: when taking the plastics off discharge the flash capacitor with your screw driver on the location you are getting shocked from it will look like a little solder after you do that you will be electrically invincible. I hope this helps everyone :D if you have a pace maker don't try to find it the solder by shocking yourself please just put the screw driver on the solder for like 3 minutes

The shock was from the capacitor n the right hand side of the camera.I know because it did this to me as well.

Hello. I had a Coolpix S52 camera similar in this video and i think the internal battery of mine is dead, it needs to replace. Anyone know how to do it, and what kind of button cell battery this Coolpix S52 would use? Thank you.

Funny, I have the same exact camera and I decided to look up a video to take it apart, I find this video and you happen to be using the same exact screwdriver set I have. lol

You didn't take apart the lens. That's what I needed to see.

That's okay. I did take it apart. I think maybe the gears are just worn out. Can't get it to work when put back together. Time to get a new one.
