I live in south Georgia. Had one move in to my house. I put my 65 gallon aquarium in the window where he liked to hang out. Put a bunch of live plants in it. Some crickets. He moved in on his own and became a family pet all of his own Accord. We could hold him and he would hang out with us. It was cool
I found an injured anole in my yard. She didn’t seem to mind when I picked her up so I took her in. I had a spare enclosure so I put her in there with lots of climbing objects and proper lighting. She is doing better now, and I love her a lot. ❤️🦎❤️
Anoles are very smart. They will amazingly start to recognize their keepers and get excited when they see them. They know who feeds them. Mine will eat from my hands.
I took one in from my backyard that met the wrong end of a weed whacker. Lost her right hand and foot. I honestly thought she was gonna die. She's still here a year later however and now has a decked out vivarium all for herself.
I feed the anoles in my garden mealworms from my hand. They've become my little green buddies. They love the mealworms. There's some big, older anoles that will eat 3-4 of them in a row. One of the anoles is quite large and appears more "seasoned." It looks like at some point something got ahold of him by the stomach area and crushed it in slightly, so it looks like there's a giant chunk missing from his upper half. It's wild. So he's like the wounded veteran of the garden anoles and gets all the respect. But he will surprisingly climb on my hand if I'm feeding him mealworms. So he's a brave boy XD
Thanks man! Just caught a cool male red colored anole sagrei in my mom's backyard.. just got him a big 20gallon vertical tank and a couple ladies! hoping for some babies next spring. Really appreciate you and everybody else that makes these anole care videos!
I really love the agamas in my yard. After creating little habitats all over the yard, the anoles have increased a lot! Oak branches, planted like little trees, log borders around beds, rocks and caves and stumps are what I used. The areas with a lot of small branching attracted the anoles and baby agamas. It offers them protection to hide from predators. There are new juvenile agamas there too.
I just got one and I'm super happy and excited! They're super cool and cute. I have a leopard gecko named Noodle, she's like almost 3 now or something and I adore her. I love reptiles and amphibians, they're definitely some of the coolest and most fascinating animals to exist and really smart too. I pronounce anole the same way you do btw, I've heard it said the other way but I just can't get myself to say it like that lol
I loved these little dudes. I’m in DFW Texas.. we always water the plants late at night bc it just evaporates if we do it during the day.. anyways when watering I’ll get one of these guys thatll jump out and take off (prolly scared to death bc I just chunked an ocean on them while they were asleep lol) but each time I’ll follow it and cup my hands around them to where they have to jump on me to move. The second they land on my hand they immediately go to sleep lol so sweet
I just saw my huge green lizard friend by the front door. I always talk to him and watch him fight with the lower ranking males. When I walked over to say something to him he suddenly ran a couple of feet. I was thinking he was suddenly afraid of me...maybe my white shirt...but he eyeballed me, looked back down, and leapt through the air nearly two feet and devoured a pest on one of my radish plants. Damn he`s fast! All I saw was a blur and him chewing on the huge bug. I help him catch food by putting pieces of fruit or smelly sardines or tuna cans out there with a little left in them. My lizard buddy is eating well and gaining weight. These are amazing to have around and so entertaining.
Thank you so much for the information. I know a lot more about what my anole needs now that I've watched this. One Important thing I want to share with you is that peat moss only covers something like 3% of the earth's surface, but it stores 30% of the earth's carbon. So, it's a huge deal for us to try to use coconut coir instead of peat moss. We should stop buying peat moss, so people stop harvesting it. It grows EXTREMELY slow, so we are depleting it at a much faster pace than it is growing. Having said that, I will get some sand and mix it into the coconut coir I bought to see how that works.
I put cardboard boxes inside boxes outside protected from rain for them to hide in but I live in a 30 ft travel trailer with a steel roof over it so they have plenty of shelter. When the man moved it here there were about 15 lizards already living on it and they came along for the ride and love it here. I`m on a very rural lot with no cats around to bother them and I always make sure they have plenty of structures to hide in or take shelter from the cold and predators. I was worried about them during an extremely cold freeze back in December but all of them survived and were back out sunning right away. I deliberately refused a pet cat in favor of them and the wild birds and bunnies here and feed them. The bunnies have their own romaine lettuce patch right now. And I have an alarm to warn me if a cat walks up.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse If you’re near a Good Will, great prices. That would make a great video! I’ve been eyeing some big cabinets…they’re just sitting there!😉😂
I can confirm they’re called anole like canoli! They’re descended from cuban green anoles that rafted over to florida and expanded out over the rest of their range
Chief mixing his own dirt? Why do I suddenly get a picture of you wearing a pair of big orange overalls, while shoveling sand and peat moss together in a big hole in the backyard? :D Great video, my man! And great point about things costing more at pet-stores (or other specialized places), but if you do a little research and think a little outside the box, you can save a lot of money :D
Does anyone know if baby anoles are okay to house together? My mama laid a bunch of eggs that are hatching and I now have two babies in a separate enclosure. Are they okay to raise together?
Just got a baby brown one thank God I noticed while cutting the backyard the mower could have sucked it right up I have a spare enclosure gonna set it up and keep it as a pet
I found an injured green anole in my driveway 10 days ago. He is blind (both eyes damaged) and will not open his mouth so far. I have only been able to give him water by putting very tiny droplets on his mouth line. They will slowly wick into his mouth. I don't know what or how to feed him except by the droplets. Any suggestions? In the ten days I've had him he has molted and seems to be about as strong as in the beginning. Thanks.
So i have a baby anole lizard so i keep it in a small container i feed it ants he or she loves to climb over me and sleep i think I should move on to crickets now what do I do
I have several green anoles on my property and they know me. I know right where to find them usually in the same general places. I'm from Florida. I really like those guys.
Hey, not asking you to commit here, just asking an offhand opinion. We have an Anole (woo right? lol) anyway, his tank is in the kitchen. He is a green Anole that just stays brown. The thing seems to love hanging out and watching the daily life here. Long story short, we altered temp within expected parameters, checked off the food and humidity. It left the possibility of him being stressed about too much activity and exposure. Note he has a ton of hide areas. So, we put up a three-sided background, thinking that this might solve that. New problem, he is still mucky colored but insists on sitting in 1 corner UPSIDE DOWN, in the dark. Are we anthropomorphizing or is he depressed? Just what i need a neurotic lizard, lol.
Haha no worries. Is there any fake leaves in there with him if you add a bunch of green in the enclosure and tons of branches clutter it up hard he should go green
Most people: I got mine from a pet store! Me: Oh yea i was vibin in class and my teacher screamed cause there was a lizard on her desk so I picked it up with my empty soda bottle and poked air holes in it got home and put it in its own tank and when I went to petco to get stuff i found out was an anole anyway his names Herbert
I found a green anole at 7, lol.. I named him toe, he lived for a month since I didn’t know how to hand him. :( But, I did research. Also this helped a lot !
My green anoles have developed swollen glands on each side of their necks. I have not been able to find out what is causing it. Some sources on Google say it might be calcium storage and I found one research paper that says it's a virus. Do you have any experience with this and do you know what to do about it? They are eating and drinking but I have noiced they're not turning green very often.
I'm looking to buy a green anole and would appreciate any recommendations on where to find one. Are there reputable pet stores or breeders in my area, or should I consider online options? Any advice on finding a healthy anole would be greatly appreciated!
I live in South Carolina and I have 5 greens anoles and I have this 1st 1 her name is nessie and her eye is not feeling good what do I use to heal it looks like her eyes kind of swollen and btw here's my anoles names Anole 1: Nesse Female Anole 2: Rico Male Anole 3: Reptar Male Anole 4: Godzilla Male Anole 5: Indigo
Sup chief, so currently I am caring for a baby green anole that got stuck behind a foam bark background in a terrarium. I am completely stubbed on what to do because the anole has several issues such as: Not being able to jump, Walking issues, will not eat, rarely drinks, and so on. So if you have any advice it would mean the absolute world to me. Thank you💯🙏
He may have parasites. Definitely put some uvb on the tank see if that helps but sometimes these anoles get parasites and start going down hill when the parasites have fully beaten the body.
Soooo, I just saved a green anole and She a baby but I want to know is what kind of calcium powder do you use ? Right now I'm very new to having her but we got her in small tank for now until we do research on her more
I need help i recently got a new green anole and he is pretty young so I have been feeding him meal worms and small crickets and he ate a meal worm and he snapped at a cricket. Can you please help me get him to eat more.
My boyfriend works in a supermarket and one came in on flowers from Florida! He sent me a video and I asked if we're keeping it, the store would kill it, and it'd freeze if we let it outside! It's funny because we wanted an Anole a few years ago and someone told us they aren't good pets, so we didn't get one... a few years later it seems life had different plans! But after watching videos, they seem like great pets to me?! So idk what that person was talking about! Anyways, we planned on our next pet being a lizard, and life just provided that haha! So we now have a female Anole and we're calling her "Ember" Petco here we come!!! Also any advice they maybe wasn't mentioned in the video?!
That’s crazy! Congratulations 🍾 I think I covered everything throw a cricket I. With her see if she eats and mist her cage since she might be thirsty from the trip
Hi chef First of all big support from india ❤ Actaully i wanted yo ask that i use exo terra uvb for my anole so i am using calcium and vitaimin powder with vitamin d3 so can i continue to use it ?
I need help. I don’t know how to position the three lights and how long to run each light daily or nightly for an anole. All videos touch on but don’t show details.. I need a 24 hr breakdown. Trying to keep my daughters green anole alive.
No you can just use a uvb and heat lamp. If it’s already pretty warm around you you may not even need a heat lamp. Sometimes the uvb bulb will give off a tiny amount of heat and that will be enough.
LED lamps are just nicer for plants that are alive, if you have really tolerant live plants or just use silk plants you don’t need an LED but if you want to grow really pretty/harder to care for plants then you should probably have a plant light LED
Hi there. So I saved 2 green anoles from my cat and placed them in a tank I got from the pet store. They never bother each other but today I saw one on top of the other. They were not moving or anything. I thought maybe they were mating but was told they could be fighting as well. I thought they were both males so the mating thing threw me off. Is it possible they are mating, fighting, or something else? They were like that for like 5-10 mins. Thank you for your time.
My cat brought one in and I’m trying to rehab her a little before putting her back out in the wild. I have super worms and large crickets for my Leo which are too big! So I tried mealies and this baby will NOT eat them. Maybe it’s an anole thing 🤔
i need help! hoping you can answer, we had a male, female anole and long tailed lizard co-living in the same tank with no problems, the male anole died (we inherited him and have no idea how old he was) now since the male is gone, the green anole is always brown and not herself... could the two females now be fighting> need advice !
Yes the male was most likely keeping the area under his territory now that he died others are fighting for control. I’d separate them into their own enclosures for good. They will go back to normal after a week.
I want to build a custom enclosure because I'm thinking of getting a green anole. The dimensions are 12 inches by 16 inches by 24 inches (Vertically orientated), and I was curious if that was enough space. The tank is 15 gallons, but I'm worried that 2 feet isn't enough height. Should the tank size be fine for one or two anoles?
They seek shelter in less cold areas away from harsh cold. Inside dead trees under tree bark inside fallen longs around warm houses. They have ways. They don’t live long in the wild mostly due to predators. Birds and what not.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse cool thanks. That makes sense. Just caught a baby one in our house earlier. Gonna see if I can give him/her a safer more comfortable life
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Will it eat small ants until I can get the appropriate food? If not, what household food products will work? The pet stores are closed now.🙄.Ants are the only insects I can catch right now
I live in GA, my 6 year old niece is obsessed with lizards and frogs and im trying to teach her how to care for them if she wants them to stay alive lol
The tall thing isn’t that big of a deal in my opinion since they love to run just as much as they love to climb and as long as you have vines and perches for them to climb they’ll be OK in a long tank, just give them some opportunities to climb off the ground and plants to hide in, but they will use the floor space just as well and you will get a better temperature gradient in my experience
Yeah they are pretty amazing lizards and can definitely live in a long tank. Definitely not too big of a deal but they are arboreal so they do appreciate the tall space.
Yeah they used to be lizards that lived near the ground and at the trunk of the tree but since the introduction of brown anoles they became more arboreal
so i just got two a male and female very docile with each other they cuddle but i managed to feed my male anole a mealworm meanwhile the female didn’t seem so interested and i made sure to get the smaller size but i may need to downsize to accommodate otherwise our boys gonna end up lonely with no m8 ❤
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse ok sweet!! The one I just made was pretty simple so I’ll start looking into this now. I’ve wanted an anole for a while, but the enclosures are so expensive. I just made a 4x2x2 for less than $250.
Does she have any open wounds? If so maybe try to stop any bleeding. If she’s fine and not bleeding she should be fine. If she’s not moving but breathing a vet appointment is recommended
i have 2 green anoles that i found as eggs, one is already one month old and the other will be one month soon, there have been no problems with taking care of them. they like being held and they drink water and like to be inside the small water dish i have (basically a Gatorade cap) BUT im not sure if they are eating, i put ants from outside in the cage all the time but i have never actually seen them eat. My oldest one has grown in size so im guessing they are eating something but idk, i have seen one the youngest one eat a small roach that found its way in the cage, but other than that im not sure. i dont want them to starve but im not sure how to get them to eat, what should i do PLEASE HELP
Order very small crickets online or go to the local pet store and try to find very small crickets. The crickets need to be the size of there mouth. No bigger than there head. Pangea reptiles online you can buy 500 crickets for $20. You could try and find baby crickets outside but it would be very difficult. That’s awesome you were able to hatch them out.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse on pengea reptiles, will they be small enough for babies? also i know right!! im lucky my mom found the eggs outside and told me instead of leaving them in the plants
