Common names do make things confusing because there are a number that people consider "Zebra Plant". But the one you have is likely still in the Haworthia genus.

This a really clear and helpful. I'm not only new to succulents, I'm new to plans in general. I bought a zebra like this last year and set it outside this summer, thinking it would love a little sun. Fortunately I didn't kill it -- brought it inside because a few leaves looked sunburned -- had no idea until I saw this video that it prefers bright shade. Also, the most frustrating thing to me about learning about succulents is that most sites don't say if their watering guidelines are for indoors or outdoors, are give you a sense of the climate they're growing these things in. Big difference between s.w. U.S. and mid-Wisconsin where I am! You did note these things, so now I feel competent to carry on., Thanks!

Very true about the watering. That's why I stress the soak and dry method so much. There is no universal watering schedule that works for everyone. Indoor, outdoor, humid climate, dry climate, all have a huge impact on how often succulents need water. Here's some more tips if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9-yp-JPXENM.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C-zidM4y4ss.html

I have been trying to create a plant nursery for years. I love plants the greenery in the life I have struggled with keeping it alive. I also grew up with a mother with a brown and black thumb which i am sure contributed to my misfortune at keeping plants alive. I recently bought “Spidey” my baby zebra succulent plant and I am determined to nurture my baby to maturation and propagation. Shortly after getting Spidey my parents gave me their Alo vera’s grandchild I named Vera due to a cat mishap they had to quickly be added to the same pot. Which meant I had to quickly learn how to transplant my baby to keep it well. I appreciate your website, resources and RU-vid videos as they will help me do so. I hope to use the tools I learned through my research and most importantly from you and your resources to later show you Spidey as a mother with beautiful children and grandchildren. If nothing else as I learned I will be posting propagation videos next spring.

This is a great video for people that are just getting an interest in succulents. I believe this would be the 1st plant I would recommend to a newbie too. You did a great job of providing, not only all of the information one would need to keep haworthia fasciata happy, but also the basics for most other succs, as well!

I've had a haworthia attenuata for about 2 months now. Got it at a local plant store here in AZ. Repotted it the day I got it. It's required very little care...I've only wattered it twice. And it's grown nearly twice the size from day one. It's also deepened to a beautiful green from a lighter green/red...this video of yours helped me understand why that's a good thing! I find your videos to be so valuable. Thank you!

I have had one of these on my kitchen windowsill for over a year. A friend gave it to me. Now it’s starting to look like it needs some care and propagation, so I’m watching this video to find out how to do it. I’m not usually a plant mom, but I’m grateful that people like you give such good and thorough instruction. I used to have a zebra plant when i was little, i was so fascinated with it when i saw it, like 6 months later it died i never found out why but I think i over watered it because i remember the leaves becoming yellow, weak, and floppy, but that plant was one of the first succulents i had ever owned, and now I'm in love with them and have my collection. I enjoy going outside and watching them grow along with the tiny succulents that sprout from my propagation leaves. I hope I win the succulent tool kit!!! or one of the larger prizes, i'm especially hoping to win that mountain crest garden gift card to expand my collection!!

I started my zebra plant growing indoors. Now I have it outside for the summer, and since I knew that it was summer dormant, I haven't been watering much at all. The information about the crispy yellow or brown leaves and the browning tips showing underwatering was very helpful. I will need to give it more water. I live in Eastern WA state and it has been very hot here lately, but we have very low humidity. Thanks, Cassidy!

I have a lot of experience with various varieties of Haworthia, each with a slightly (or sometimes not so slightly) different appearance. Like most succulent collectors, I'm always on the hunt for new types. Some are striped, some dotted, some variegated, some semi-translucent - very cool! I live in FL, so I definitely keep my Haworthias indoors or in a shaded portion of my lanai. I love that they have structural integrity and good looks sufficient to feature as a solo specimen, and are equally great as accents grouped in a potted arrangement. I still sometimes confuse Haworthia with smaller aloes, although recently learned that Aloes have teeth along the leaves, whereas Haworthias leaves are smooth. Not sure if that's a foolproof means to make the distinction though.
@Succulentsandsunshine
@Succulentsandsunshine 5 лет назад
Oooh, that's a good tip! I feel like I can usually tell them apart but can't verbalize why it's one over the other 😆 The teeth seems like a pretty good tell!

I got little baby zebra from a friend 4 years ago, it has been my easiest plant to take care of. I tend to underwater my succulents, but with this one they seems to be the perfect amount ! It's at a south facing window but there quite some shade from trees there, that seems to be perfect for this one. I was really scared when I decided to break off its 3 first babies last year (who were bigger than the baby I got, but they all made it !

I'm a beginner. I had a zebra plant that I kept in the same pot for a few years, I didn't take care of it properly so it died. Fortunately, before dying, it grew 3 offsets that I planted in their own pot. One of them didn't survive but the 2 remaining are thriving :) I've just discovered your channel, it's very interesting! I've grown an attenuata (alongside my other 'basic' succulents) and sadly it died due to overwatering. The other succulents are exposed to direct sunlight, and I think that's the reason why their soil is drying faster, and watering those succulents once a week seems fine. I also watered my attenuata once a week and since I'm growing it indoors, I didn't notice that the soil is not drying up before I water it, so soon after it died because of root rot. I recently purchased another attenuata plant, hopefully I can take better care of it this time.

Well I'm kind of new at growing succulents and have learned a lot from you. Today was no different. After watching the video I went looking for my Haworthia fasciata. Couldn't find it indoors so finally went looking for it outside. It was sitting in the sun with another succulent and neither one was looking very good. So, I brought them in the house, transplanted the Haworthia, watered them and put both plants near a window where they will get a lot of light, but be shaded at the same time. Looking forward to two healthier plants!! Thank you!

My plant is probably 5 years old and beautiful, i did not however check it for babies until recently and to my surprise there were 32! I gave 7 to a neighbor and planted the rest in containers. The mother grew in a large bowl on my patio partially shaded with other succulents. Now I have 25 new plants and I want to make sure the soil and lighting are correct. I had set them in sun but will promptly remove them and place them back on the patio. Buying plants can become expensive so when you learn to propagate any plant it opens a whole new world of possibilities to you and the knowledge you gain, along with curiosity is fantastic!

I didn't know there were different types, I thought they were all simply Zebra Plants. I just learned something new. :)

I've inherited some haworthias on the property but thought they were fasciata. Your video taught me they're attenuatas! And they're pinkish so getting too much sun.

My plant was over “loved” 😢 it has also fallen apart and the leaves have all detached due to it being soggy. Am I able to propagate individual leaves? Or rescue it any way?

Yes! I was trying to keep these simple, but realized that was a major oversight. There's a close up of it here: www.succulentsandsunshine.com/types-of-succulents/haworthia-fasciata-zebra-plant/?.com&

Hi! Great video, I have grown many Haworthia and they do very well for me. In my house in NY, I grow these inside on a south window. I tend to underwater and that works for most of these. However, my underwatering has caused a few to be stunted. Now I know what to look for as you explained in this video, thank you so much!

Your videos are always so helpful!! The more o buy succulent the more I come to your channel for support. I have about 6-8 Zebra plants and keep forgetting they don’t like full sun. Ugh!!! Thank you again for this video.
