I've been on Flomax two separate times, 10 years between them. Both times ended with a TURP. For me, Flomax was a temporary fix, but the PVR (post void residual) kept getting worse, so I had to do something. Be careful gents, keep that PVR down, or you'll stretch out the bladder too much. Prostate is a pain in the ass, literally, haha!
@@webmasterepm Drugs wont work if you have a median lobe obstruction (prostate partially growing inside bladder causing obstruction and is common). Never take a drug until you have a scope done to diagnose the problem. Thousands of people are taking medicine for a problem that is not resolved when a median lobe obstruction occurs. The only way to correct is with Turp. Side effects of those drugs are notable and provided little relief for me. Took Finisteride, Flomax and Sidenifil. Turp is usually 3 days of recovery and can be difficult but is the standard that everything is measured to. After TURP all of my symptoms have been resolved. All depends on the person.
you can skip it once in awhile if you wish...but then you'll be back to the dribbles in short order...it also contains a mild muscle relaxant...which is a plus....
Was on flomax for a while didn't help. My question is why didn't my doctors notice my prostate was 4 to 5 times the size it should've been? Hell they've been sticking their fingers up my ass for years and never noticed it. Also not one offered to buy me dinner. Had the operation to core it out , now it works great. I can put out a highrise fire while standing on the ground. So don't sit back and just let your doctors make the decisions be proactive, it's your life.
Gave me missed beats(heart) stopped taking it and now drink nettle tea(holland & barret) also taking a little bit of Cialis (about 5 mgs) will help urine flow.
I took Tamsulosin for about a month. It decreased my libido, reduced my orgasms to a somewhat "meh" level of pleasure, and eliminated semen in my ejaculations. It did help with the frequent urination at night, but the cost was too great to my sexual well-being. I stopped taking it and a week later my sexual function was back to near normal. A month after stopping, all my sexual function has returned.
I have been taking it 11yrs, for restricted urine flow, from an under active bladder. I have had zero side effects, no reduction in sexual function at all.
Same as you guys I've been taking it for about 6 weeks, but at 74 years of age sex is not an issue anymore , as my wife is not interested , feel sorry for guys with younger partners and wife's.
Did you do some kind of surgical intervention? I am just reading about the different ones ... they all sound awful. The Rezum seems like it might be the easiest, but how long does it work ... and how much does it cost, and will insurance cover it.
I was told to watch for 2 major side effects from Tam..The doc said if I have sever chest pains or have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours , go the the emergency . I had issues with my eyes as things began to move like quick frames and a week later I was in hospital with chest pains & had a stent inserted into my artery . That was 10 years ago ,so I stopped the Tam.. and as my uroligist said no more making babies as the flow ofthe 'little guys' will no longer hit the playpen . He was right ! Check out the pros and cons .
I tried Flomax and every time I stood up I almost passed out. So I switched to Alfuzosin. I didn't notice much of a benefit so I stopped altogether. The prostate issue seems to have resolved itself for now.
All very good information. However, the elephant in the room is not mentioned. i.e. If you are taking Flowmax you MUST MUST be given annual PSA tests to monitor risk of prostate cancer. Flowmax not only relieves the symptoms of BPH but it also relieves the first symptoms of prostate cancer. i.e. Difficulty urinating. I took Flowmax and Finnasteride for 5 years. I got progressively worse haemospermia. My GP just kept repeating "come back in 3 months if it gets worse". After annual check ups, I finally gave up and asked to be referred privately. My GP said I was wasting my money. The first thing I was asked by the specialist was if I had PSA tests. Given that I had not, he included PSA in a battery of tests. PSA was very high and prostate cancer was diagnosed. I stopped taking the flowmax and finnasteride 3 months before my prostatectomy. My Haemospermia (note 1) recovered within a week. A post operation biopsy of my prostate showed that my cancer was nearly at the point of break out. I had literally weeks of margin. I made a 100% recovery without any real ill effects. It is impossible to believe how lucky I was. You might not be. Don't be brow beaten by your GP about PSA tests being a waste of time. Annual PSA tests are your only early warning if you take Flowmax. (Note 1. I filled in a "Yellow" medicines side effects form. The form went into the records black hole. Nothing done and no follow up on this or the PSA testing. Haemospermia and the need for PSA testing was ridiculed so I wasted my time filling out the form).
Doctors don't even want to do PSA tests anymore. Too many false positives they say. At a certain age they start telling you, "Prostate cancer isn't a concern. Even if you have it, you'll likely die of something else before it kills you!"
@@allumpfa This is another key factor that medical staff are very quick to tell you. However, they are missing the other herd of elephants in the room. Diagnosing prostate cancer is about the rate of rise of PSA level above YOUR normal level. The absolute level depends on the individual. Some men are naturally HIGH. Some are naturally LOW. A single PSA test is a waste of time to some degree for diagnosing cancer - within a fairly wide range of values. You need to know YOUR normal PSA level AND YOUR age related rise of PSA. Cancer will accelerate the age related rise - this is what you are looking for. Don't be taken in by the medical agenda. You are 1 in 10,000 other patients as far as your GP is concerned. To YOU you are ONE of ONE.
Don’t ignore your own body and think it’s just age related and normal part of life . Prostate Cancer is no joke . I know I have it , get checked regularly it’s your life !
To add to this, Flomax will hinder ejaculate or retrograde ejaculate into the bladder, thus increasing your chances of prostate cancer. Because regular ejaculation keeps your prostate healthy. I’d rather catheterize myself to urinate then ever take Flomax without Cialis.
Very sensible advice and confirms that of my GP. I take 400mg. Yes ,erections have gone but I am 75 and my wife (76) has a prolapse so who cares? Better than peeing five times (+) a night.
I had a cataract operation coming , and I told the Eye Clinic Dr, that I had been taking Tamsulosin for at least 3 years, he said it doesn't make any difference, the operation will be carried out as intended. So who should I believe ?
When I 1st started taking this drug I was a little light headed. I took it in the morning but switched to taking it about 30 minutes after dinner. No more light headedness and no problems urinating all day.
I had an experience lately with the drug Flomax . I thought that my heart was beginning to fail and my blood pressure would drop like a rock and I thought I was going to pass out. I could not get my breath and my heart would pound. I would not recommend FLOMAX.
Enlarged Prostate due to Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer. Have taken Flomax since diagnosis & was having trouble with blood pressure dropping around about 11 am everyday after taking the tablet as suggested after breakfast. Switch to after the evening meal ( we eat at a regular time being retired) and have to say no problems since even when going through Chemo/Brachytherapy & 28 bouts of Radiotherapy. Cancer has been held back after original terminal diagnosis predicted was 2 years. Still going into my 5th.
My PSA was 27, so i had two round of HR Brachy Therapy in four days. Just shy of 2 years since, the PSA is down to 1.2. It was caught early and hadn't spread. I'm on Flomax every other day. I do have some of side effects, but no girl friend at the moment. I don't have any pressure, and can't force out the urine any faster than it wants to flow. Does anyone else have that problem? I was told that I may have BPH, having nothing to do with the cancer. IDK how long I'll need the Flomax. I have heard of a "balloon" treatment, to open the urethra, if that is still used.
@@elultimo102 Glad to see the lower PSA, mine's been negligible since ending the Chemo three years back. Have heard of the balloon but no experience of it. Catheterization was used after the Brachy on & off for a couple of years but clear now, know a couple of guys who do self catherate which eases retention. I double void. Sexual side hasn't been problem. Three years of hormone treatment has voided any chance there and being old can't be bothered with all the pumps and paraphernalia needed. Wishing you well.
I HAVE USED IT SINCE 2007 AND CONTINUE TO USE IT DAILY. DIAGNOSED IN 2006 WITH PROSTATE CANCER AND HAD 42 RADIATION TREATMENTS. HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS AS THE REST BUT STILL ALIVE.
I am supposed to take one I'm the morning amd one in the evening. I only take one daily, after dinner. I tried so stop taking it a few years ago a few times but then after a coupledays, I couldn't pee. So I will continue to use it daily. I don't have side effects. The prostate cancer ruined my sex life but considering the consequences... I had 45 days of radiation and my PSA was only at 5 when I started. I strongly recommend prostate exams annually. Someone i know didn't. His cancer spread. He now, after radiation gets a shot in his stomach monthly and takes some sort of large pill daily. Prostate cancer is rather common. Don't wait.
Till today I took 45 tablets of Flotrol of Sunpharm 1 tablet per day for last 45 days . & very much comfortable last 45 days. My PSA is 2.56 & prostate gland wt is 53 gms for last 6 years. Biopsy done 2016 . Results are excellent .so no issue .
After TURP surgery I couldn't urinate each time the doctor took the foley catheter out. After months of going threw hell with a Foley Catheter and going to the ER over and over I decided on my own to self catheter and within a week I didn't need the catheter. I've been taking Tamsulosin and finasteride and it seems to be working.
I was prescribed this stuff a few years ago to help pass a kidney stone. Ended up light-headed and actually blacked out at one point. Never take this crap again.
I took it about 4 years.Prostrate got so bad flomsx didn't help.Had green Lazer surgery.Had severe pain when I pissed for 6 weeks.Doctors didn't give a damn about my pain. They wouldn't give anything to stop the pain. Now peeing normally.
Great video and veered informative but if you suffer from the ejaculation side effects, is there alternatives you can take? I've been on it for 24 years and I really hate the side effects. If I don't take it I can feel it in prostate and I get very sensitive in that area. thanks
Whenever my urologists prescribe it to me the side effects doesn’t help me at all and even though they all tell me to take this medicine before you go to bed 🛏️ And it makes me feel drowsy in the morning and it doesn’t work for me!
I tried Flomax for BPH which was preventing me from sleeping properly. My BPH was mush relived but I could not sleep while on the drug. I read Flomax can prevent you from achieving REM sleep which is alarmingly counterproductive. Do you find this to be true? Thanks
i take high blood pressure medication , i took tamulosin and i blacked out , {i fell of a bar stool in my kitchen , i can still hear the thud as my face hit the ground } told a doctor who advised me to try it again , this time when i blacked out i fell from the hall into a bedroom , fortunately the door was open as it is a 15 pane glass door and i would have certainly injured myself had it been closed , and at the time i was employed as a petrol tanker driver and had i told my employer i blacked out i would have been suspended till i was checked over by company doctor { doctor death }, also DVLA would have banned me from driving till it was sorted out so obviously i never told them as it was the tamulosin + BP tablets that caused it , never took tamulosin again .
i started taking Tamsulosin when prescribed by a urologist years ago when I was only 49 when I complained of urgency only after I had surgery for a hernia. He said it was my prostate was enlarged and giving me problems. I also experienced a pain and numbness from the surgery. I was told that taking tamsulosin would help both the pain and the urgency. Biggest mistake I ever did! while it did help with the pain and discomfort i was feeling. It also killed my sex life! It caused my wife distress because she thought that I wasn't interested in her any more. Years went by and i quit taking the crap. It never helped with the urgency and the pain I was having subsided. Still having the urgency issue I read about a drug that treated a weak bladder. I started using oxybutin and the urgency issue is gone! I suspect that my bladder was what should have been addressed all along instead of my prostate. Now at 69 my prostate is fine!
After back surgery and behind cath for several days the doctor ordered a shot of Lomax for me. Within a minute or two , I started itching and the itching quickly spread throughout my body. I couldn't scratch hard enough to get relief. After about 10 minutes the doctor finally gave me a shot of something to counteract the flow. I still itched for several minutes before I quit. I will never allow anyone to give me flomax again. It was horrible.
I have suffered from 'nocturia' for about 25 years. I get up about six times every night, about once every hour. During the day I never have to pee more than once or twice. It only happens when I lie down. Nobody can explain that. Have taken Duodart (dutasteride+tamsulosin) at one time and reduced my PSA from 6 to about 3. However, shock and horror! My last blood test showed a PSA of 16! Good God, sixteen! How is that possible? Is there even such a number? Again had the usual bladder scan and the rectal examination (the finger!) but shows an enlarged prostate of 76cc, a bladder reduced in size (I am 82 years old, so what else is new!) and nothing more. I have no 'symptoms', whatever they may be, and do not even know that I have a prostate. Lately I have again taken Duodart to lower my PSA but after three weeks started to go blind in my left eye, and seeing all sorts of shapes and what they call 'auras' dancing in my field of vision. Stopped taking the stuff at once and am now slowly regaining my eyesight. What next ? Will try one of the 'herbs and spices' like Prostacor that comes highly recommended and will see. I am desperate and will try anything! I have no problem passing urine, it is just the frequency, mainly at night that is a perpetual problem. Any suggestions from anyone?
Hang in there my friend the doctor put me on Dutasteride 0.5 one per day and Alfuzosin 10 MG one per day my psa went from 4 to 1.5 in 3 months but the Dutasteride has caused a lot of side effects my breast are growing no sex drive dry ejaculation I am so tired all the time joints hurt I am 66 years old I am going to stop taking this medication but I am going to talk to my doctor and see what he says. I too get up 5 or 6 times a night and I pee a whole lot less doing the day time and this medicine has not helped about getting up 5 or 6 times a night I don't know what to do they say I have an enlarged prostate but some times I pee and have a good stream and then a day later barely pee with a weak stream. Oh yea I too started seeing odd shapes in my site but it went away in a few hours.
My urologist is recommending an implant that sends an electrical signal to stop the feeling of fullness. I am considering it, since I have low blood pressure and Tamsulosin would put me over the edge on low blood pressure.
When my eye doc found I was taking this stuff, he spun around in his chair. He said it could do un repairable damage and was a big problem when combined with surgery.
That’s interesting. I’ve had cataract surgery on both eyes and had multiple detached retina surgeries on one eye. Both doctors looked at all my meds and neither mentioned any concern about Tamsulosin. I’ve been taking it for over 20 years.
This just in... I was out of town for four nights and neglected to make my Flomax tablets with me. The first day I was fine but the other three days and nights were horrible. I was up five times per night to empty my bladder and I felt like I had to go again immediately thereafter. On a couple of my morning hikes I nearly didn't make it to a toilet. In fact, I was so desperate I had to duck behind some trees to do my business. Enough said, I guess, but I hope this testimony will remind others in similar conditions: Take ALL your meds on overnight trips. Best to you all...
why can't i find anything about this drug when used by women. i am a female currently on a .4mg dose once a day. i experienced a total inability to urinate after anesthesia. i was using a intermittent catheter 6 times a day. after about 10 days of not being able to urinate at all, i began to pee a tiny bit on my own. tamsulosin helped me get back on track and stop using a catheter. does anyone have any information about how long i might have to keep doing this. the drug gave me back my sanity. BTW, i had to give up my blood pressure meds completely. any information would be greatly appreciated.
Took this for about a month and quit. Dizzy and light headed anytime getting up. I take a low dose cialis from overseas. It helps with frequency and no notable side effects.
after 5 years and wasting a large amount of money , nothing i took shrunk the prostate, it covered the symptoms an allowed the bladder to get larger. i went for the turp and i had no serious side effects or excessive pain, now i void very well and empty my bladder.
After two separate episodes while flying, where I had to finish the flights on oxygen from passing out, the emergency doctor told me not to take Flomax while flying for that reason.
Tried FLOMAX issued by the V.A. as a 78 year old male it was time that I started this medication. After a week I stopped taking the medication because of the side affect of feeling drowsy the next full day. I have never had any side effects on any medication that I take for high blood pressure. I did find that taking a brand that’s sold in Mexico is effective and no side effects. Not to mention that it can be bought for pennies compared to the original brand.
Tamsulosin works on relaxing tissue, this medication gave me severe "Ice Cream" headaches. For years I had to sleep sitting up, as when I would lie down, within 30 minutes I would have a serious headache. My doctor sent me to several specialists, and none could help me. Only when I understood how it worked did I get the idea that Tamsulosin might be a cause. I stopped the medication and within a few days I no longer had these headaches. Apparently the tissue in my sinuses relaxed and closed off the drainage of fluid, causing pressure felt behind my eyes. At least this is what I think. Not everything is understood by you professionals, and the drug companies will not tell us all they know. I have had other bad experiences with medications, and do not rely on anyone but myself anymore.
Have u tried Saw Palmetto? I have seen in other vid comments that they have stopped Flomax & went to Saw Palmetto & have not looked back & no side effects & works better than Flomax
Apparently the tissue in my sinuses relaxed and closed off the drainage of fluid, causing pressure felt behind my eyes. At least this is what I think. NO IT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR
I stopped because I noticed eye irritation, poor or blurry vision & dry left eye since I started Flowmax. My eye doc could tell that I was taking Flowmax without me telling him! Flowmax actually caused a small hole in my Dad's left eye that had to be stitched up. I'd rather get up 5 times a night to pee. 50yrs old. Started Flowmax 2yrs ago.
I find this statement rather weird. His title is doctor, there is nothing wrong with that. The individual clearly is stating he is certified in the field of medicine, how is that a bad indicator?
@@egads2 also find this statement lacking a level on intellect that should be common knowledge. Dr is a title, so is Mr, Mrs, Miss etc. They are title used by the society for acknowledgement of a specific status, be it marital or academic. One's birth certificate contains a name given by parents or guardian. A title is assigned based on gender (although that logic is currently being eroded as time continues) He is correct in stating his Title and name, he has done nothing wrong. He worked for his title, allow the individual to use it. As it stands today, Dr replaces Ms, Mrs, Mr...but you already know that. Also note there are no titles for this holding diplomas, BSc and MSc. Professor trumps Dr, and PhD. That is how the world. Once in the past Mr had greater significance than Dr, but things have changed.

With Tamsulosin I experienced slight dizziness, diminished libido, diminished orgasm and zero ejaculation. Went back to my herbal remedies which actually worked better for me without the side effects.
Can diatary changes be used to avoid the need for this medication ? I took Tamulosin for about a year but stopped and instead continued to drink nettle tea, control sugar intake, control dairy product intake (principally by reducing the amount of cheese consumed).
Flowmax put me in a very bad GOUT attack. I could not walk of stand up without help . This went on a long time when I guit I got better a little at a time. Never again.
Tamsulosin will affect the ability of your eyes to be dilated by your eye doctor. My eyes will not dilate and my ophthalmologist says its a side effect of prostate medications.
Anytime I’ve taken flomax, I get a severe stuffy nose, barely get an erection and keeping it hard and also no ejaculation either. It did nothing to help me pass kidney stones which I why they had me on it.
I have been on Flomax for 10 years. The one side effect that is a major positive fit me is it helps me pass kidney stones. I have had surgeries to remove them but keep making them and Flomax helps me pass them. Yes it's still uncomfortable and a little pain, BUT nothing like it would be and keeps me from going to the hospital every time.
I pass a stone like 3 weeks ago for the first time. As soon as I passed it I stopped taking tam. I'm starting to feel weird again so i started taking it. I'm not going through that crap again!!
@@Thejays91331 your not going to pass them till they drop out of your kidney. But when or if they do you will know it as the pain or discomfort is there but not near as bad. Usually I feel like that for a week or so then the pain is completely gone. Soon after when urinating you will feel it and it comes out like a bee bee.
I am taking 0.4 mg of this medicine with brand name as 'dynapres'. This is quite good. I noticed some general improvement also. Surprisingly it has improved my digestion.
My experience with tamsulosin included the onset of ED. And when my urologist added finasteride is when my dizziness and instability started. My advice, stay away from both these old medications. Drs. like to turn to these the moment you walk into their offices. I used these meds for three years before reading the truth. I stopped them on my own last summer and my instability and dizziness are gone. Now I've learned they can stay in your system for years.
It doesn’t eliminate semen in ejaculations, but rather leads to retrograde ejection whereby semen releases into the bladder instead of the normal direction, hence the name retrograde. This is one of the main side-effects and I’m surprised you failed to mention this a single time in the video.
Sorry but it jacks up my pressure to 150...dizzyness. cold sweat. And weakness. I take 1 every other day now..but on the good side i wake up once at night and my stream is stronger than before. Blessings. John UK 060522
Be very carefull with this IF you have LOW B/P or on B/P meds. Had to use this during 2nd treatment for prost cancer and I suddenly passed out and 2 days in Hosp due to low BP, so take care - otherwise OK
I got off Flomax and I am having better results with a blend of saw palmetto, pumpkin seeds, and other natural remedies. Flomax is too complicated with side effects.
hi please which one works better for symptoms like Urgency, Frequency, hesitancy, pushing to pee or trouble emptying the bladder. Alphazosin or Tamsulosin ?
My urologist has me taking Flomax 30 mins after dinner in the evening. It doesn't seem to be doing much. Very weak stream. Should I switch to mornings??? Thank you.
I took one Tablet of Tamsulosin before bed and in the morning i sat on the toilet just finished peeing, felt sick, dizzy and fell of the toilet semi consious, scraped the skin of ny forehead, banged my shoulder and hip, ,i layed on the floor for 10 mins and came round a bit, shaky on my feet for the rest of my day. I only took one tabel and it did this. i now have a full feeling in my ears. ringing, Tinnitus which is keeping me awake, has anyone suffered from Ringing, Tinnitus
Excellent video! I am very happy with my Flomax regimen and it has worked wonders for me! For the past several years my sleep was interrupted by going to the toilet all night long and I faced the morning in a state of exhaustion. No longer! I sleep pretty well one there are absolutely NO side effects for me. Every person is different, of course, but for me... Yes!!!
@@gr8ride411 I take the medicine in the evening, about a half hour after my dinner. So very happy with my results but, of course, everyone is different so best to you!
been taking this med & also with FINASTERIDE 5MG once a day in the morning & my TAMSULOSIN HCL 0.4 MG 30 mins AFTER DINNER been taking this since 2014 & in between that time I would have prostate attacks in which I would have to go to the ER to put an cat., into me to drain my bladder & what wasn't said which I was surprised by this,is it proable to STILL have prostate attecks EVEN when taken those MEDS. YES the only side effect I do have is that I have NO CUM at all I can feel myself cumming BUT nothing comes out but a little bit of pre-cum,That's it,but I can still get hard
Flomax helps my flow a lot but caused me to nearly faint all the time and caused nasal congestion so bad I couldn’t sleep. Now on VESICARE with no side effects I know of and helping urgency feeling a lot. Does cause a little dry mouth and maybe a bit of constipation but all that is easily controllable. Also tried uroxatrol with same side effects as flomax with me.
went thru a bout with those blackouts a couple of years ago...[really scary when you're driving a car]....but it passed and hasn't returned...apparently pretty common in older guys...and can have a number of causes....
Yes I stopped flomax which worked well except for fainting feelings occasionally and extreme stuffy nose at night. VESICARE is working well at night I think without side effects. But in daytime still having some urgency issues if I wait too long. Some of my issues probably due to 48 radiation treatments on prostate bout a year ago. 🤷🏼♂️
Hospital always gives me flowmax on empty stomach and it says not to take it on an empty stomach. Anyone else take on empty stomach? My BP hasn't dropped that I noticed when taking in without food.
My dose in .4 mg twice a day with meals. Been on that for 20+ years and never have leaking or urges nor do I get up in the night. Seems to be working but is it wrong? Just curious. I don't imbibe in alcohol or smoke if that means anything.
Flomax has never done anything good for me except lower my blood pressure. however taking Melatonin somehow reduced the amount of times I had to pee at night and as a result had a more relaxful sleep.
