How to Take Your Shirt On and Off after Shoulder Surgery 

I had total shoulder replacement a week ago...i'm a 71 y.o. male....and I live alone...after reading some of these posts....I'm thinking....these people have not read the instructions given them....or are incapable of understanding them...I was changing my t-shirt 3 days after I got home....also getting fully dressed....I've done my laundry twice...I go grocery shopping....and all the time keeping my arm that was operated on....in the proper position....you have got a little leeway....a little but you do have some....don't let this operation scare you into not doing ANYTHING....just sit down....read instructions that were given you....watch a few youtube videos on the subject....exercising is a big part of the whole thing....do a little at first.....gradually increase it if your Dr. says it's ok.....when you get to physio (and I swear by these guys) follow everything you are told....and practice it at home constantly.....this is by far the biggest thing in the whole process....physio and how much you put into it....and practice it constantly is what is going to get you back out there.....back to a more normal life......but you can still live life....I've had both knees replaced....both hips replaced...a double fusion on my right ankle...but get around pretty normally.....no canes...crutches....wheelchairs.....because I didn't want to be that person....I just paid attention to what I had to do....to get my freedom back....and you can too.....be positive....be brave.....and just do it......and you can :)

Great demo having the “patient” actually do everything and with the arm almost motionless in the elevated spot. Very helpful post surgery.

Being a woman, another question,....how do I shave my armpit's??? Total reverse shoulder surgery in ten days!!!! Putting on a bra, all that stuff, ugh! My Dr.s office has sent me a ton of info to prepare but none of these daily items??!!!

I bought oversized shirts with large buttons at Goodwill . Then i sewed velcro on to create the front closure in the event i couldnt maneuver the buttons.

I have a problem, I require both shoulders replaced as I have severe arthritis and snapped tendons in both arms, there is no way I can dress myself because of this, so my wife, who is in her seventies has to dress me. I have already had three operations on my shoulders which made my shoulders worse. The pain is excruciating as I also have spinal arthritis also. I have waited four years for my shoulder replacement and I am dreading going into hospital as I know what I will have to go through.

This is a great video but what about when you wake up from surgery and your husband has to help dress you while already in the sling? Nurses normally let the family member assist which can get awkward quick lol
