I hope this helps anyone that might have a naughty chameleon and doesn't know how to deal with it :) Links: Facebook: / alphareptiles Instagram: / graphicphoenix1
lmfao i shouldn't have laughed as hard as i did but when i had my cham he was a grumpy old man and whenever he fell i'd burst out laughing lol memory lane
This video is was amazing to teach my daughter exactly what kind of a commitment this is for her, and for the WHOLE family. I LOVE you for these videos AND for the way in which you care for your crew. You're awesome!
I'd really like to own a Chameleon. though, I have so many reptiles as is and Chameleons are a little more needy when it comes to their temp and environmental needs. Still super beautiful to look at.
Enjoyed your 'How to tame your Chameleon' vid very much! Thanks for taking the time. For someone like me who CAN'T have a chameleon but adore them, it's a vicarious ownership thrill.
That's exactly what I'm doing, sticking my hand in the enclosure and keeping it there without touching him. He's still a baby of 8 weeks old (named him Oscar), but the younger you can make them to trust you, the better. Next move will be to put a worm on the end of my fingers and try to lure him closer to my hand, by his own choice. Small steps at a time and lots of patience is the key here. ^^ Note that he isn't aggressive (his brother on the the other hand had a completely different character, oh boy, not a very happy boy), but it's better to avoid future problems, right? :)
My 2 month old (as of today) female is doing well. I watched these videos and it really helped! I saw a bunch of things I was doing wrong and I feel quite bad but I'm trying to rebuild my trust with her. Today I was holding a cricket near her and she started making this squeaking noise (she makes this noise like a high pitched squeak and I finally realize that it's probably her juvenile way of hissing) but she was doing it about 10 times in and she even was moving around really fast. I backed down a step and now have been placing my hand in the cage for a minute and carefully putting my finger under her front until she climbs on. I'm only holding her for about two minutes at a time.
I'm not saying he did anything wrong, but in my opinion I never grab my chameleon. I put my hand flat and he will come to me so he never once has tried to bite me for the 6 months I've had him for.
I have a 3 and a half year old panther chameleon and he will be nice one day but the next day he will hiss and puff out he has had a different personality each day
I just my chameleon yesterday and she’s so lovely and I don’t even need to tame her she accepts me to pet her and put her wherever I want I feed her mealworms she was super thin when I bought her but now there’s a big difference in her body
i would get a chameleon. im actually getting one today and im so so so excited. hes a domestic veiled so hes been handled a lot but im just watching videos galore making sure he has a good home. this was super helpful, thank you!
haileyolivia moore hes a dick but hes cute. hes getting used to me though. turns out that when we bought my cham he was supposed to be an adult but the guy said he already sold him so he sold us a mean baby one. :(
oh lord lol i had a veiled bt she passed away from mbd i have a 3 horned jacksons now make sure youre doing your calcium right so he dfoesnt get sick and just work with him hell come around is he wild? or is he captive never pick him up above his head hell take that as youre a predator grab under or let him crawl on your finger
Your video is awesome and I have shared it on a reddit sub about chameleons. People are constantly asking why they're animals are so mad, how to handle them, how to get them to calm down and you pretty much nailed it. I just got a new cham a little over a week ago, and he has been super skittish, it's true, you just need to go slow with them. A bit of a week later and I have a whole new cham now. I just took it slow with him, handled him a bit several times a day (he needed it), and we're pals now.
BACK FROM THE DEAD! Yes, be patient, I've had a 3 month Cham for about a month and he's finally walking out on my hand after daily interactions. If your Cham wants left alone and you don't have to move them, leave them alone! Appreciate their beauty and build that trust! AW
I watched this video with my 4 year old beautiful daughter and it helped her learn all about chameleons. And now she loves chameleons because of this video. She is amazed by how they can change colors and how unique they are as animals.
+Zach McKeever That's awesome glad I could inspire younger generations to love reptiles as well. Help them see that they aren't gross and need to be killed, they are beautiful and deserve to be saved.
I'm in my room 24/7 animating and my female Jackson Cham is right next to me but she still hates me. I've never grabbed her but she never walks on my hand. It's been 5 months...
Ya it can happen, chameleons are definietly a look don't touch animal. If you wanted something you can hold all the time I would not have choosen a cham
NAMLAZ Yeah. Thanks. She's warmed up to me a little bit. She hates other people but tolerates me lol. I still miss my male Jackson who died a few months ago... he was so sweet : (
my situation is very similar with a veiled. I understood they are not to be held before i bought her but it makes me feel bad that she doesn't like me on a personal level. I have never grabbed her from above and she was okay with me when i first bought her. no hissing when getting her out of the pet store cage, no hissing or anything when i picked her up to put her in her new home for the first time. but as soon as she grew a little bit she hates me. :(
I have a month old veiled chameleon. I want to hold it but it always turns black and hisses and runs when I move my hand by it. How can I get it to like me??
Don't move fast and don't grab it make it come to you by using food. Personally I'd say mike was moving kinda fast with his veiled chameleon that scares them remember the cage is there personal space. You don't want to intrude on his personal space
i am so enchanted by these beautiful creatures, they are precious and complex for sure! i just have a general interest in chameleons and your videos are very informative👍
I have a couple of questions... 1. What kind of chameleon is that? 2. I don't want to buy a new tank every month so if i get a big tank can he stay in there his whole life and if so what size tank and what brand would you recommend? Thanks and you have an awesome setup!!
Best to just stop handling if they start getting dark. You're just undoing everything you're trying to do. Let them get used to being near you. Slow man, if he gets stressed with the door being open just stand by the cage for a few minutes. Don't let them get to the poikt where they are black EVER. And if they are black even when you look at them they'll probably never tame down. Chameleons are for looking at and MAYBE once or twice a week come out. But you got a display animal if it is uncomfortable never force
Woah woah!! Only female chameleons turn completely black the males can only turn darker shades of green or whatever their colour is. Please make sure he is on hundred percent a male or you may have a problem. Females don't tend to do so well. Please be careful hope I helped
I would love to have a whole reptile collection, a herp zoo; leopard tortoise, rhino iguana, ball python, water dragon, chameleon, and my dream is to be licensed to have a fly river turtle in a big custom pond. But that's just the dream of an amature zoologist wanabee. ^-^
not my real name but I go by Kai too x,D its my hawaiian name... oddly enough Im looking at jacksons chameleons cause theyre the only damn reptile thats legal here -__-
I'm very glad someone else believes reptiles are smart! My veiled Cham also named rango. He will dance at the glass after his morning bask to let me know he wants out. Mine has moods if he doesn't want to come out and he's basking he will hiss, unny but once he's out he is cuddly... also so people know if you can place your Chams home on a table or shelf high as possible, as they love to have the highest vantage point to feel secure.
If I could have my chameleon back I would take her, I had her for five months and I moved and I had given her to my best friend... I know she probably felt really sad when I left, the first day I had gotten her from the store I was taking her out of the pet store box and she was completely cool with it, she watched the cars and then she began adventuring (she was my first lizard and I kinda didn't do any research on her, which was bad, but when I finally decided that she was the one, I got everything and I set up the enclosure the day I got her, she started out in a 10 gallon, and then was moved to a 15 gallon a month later, she was really small and sick looking but I still loved her. She used to take naps with me and she would make weird purring sounds the were a bit weird but she did it, I got her checked and they said it was just a bond that should never be broken. So I was a bit upset when I left and now I am working on getting a different advanced type of reptile, I have no idea what I should get though... so could I get some pointers on what I should do?
+Cheyenne Arthur Make sure you do your research before you get something - especially if you want an "advanced" reptile. 15 Gallons is WAY off for anything but the smallest of chameleon species - which I really doubt you had because you aren't going to find those at a pet store. Furthermore, saying 15 gallons, makes it sound like you got a glass tank, which is also inappropriate and has been linked to greatly reduced lifespans in many chameleons. You must research the animal because only then will you find out if you are able to properly care for them. They can end up being very time consuming and costing hundreds of dollars - if not more if you run into health issues. It's not heartbreaking to give them away - watching them dying from parasitic worms that are infesting their whole body because you didn't clean up their poop fast enough and they ingested some and you're unprepared financially to take them to a vet - that's crushing. I'd rethink your desire for an advanced reptile - there are plenty out there that are easy to care for but still extremely cool. I'm not meaning to sound overly critical - but I am currently caring for 8 rescued reptiles from people that did not research before hand but loved the "cool" factor of their pet, including one chameleon that was on it's death bed when I took it in. It had been kept in a 15 gallon tank. Hadn't eaten in 3 weeks, avoided heat and UVB, and was shooting it's tongue at the dirt in it's cage. Once I put it in a proper enclosure, he recovered within a few days. I've had that chameleon for three years now.
+Mike Tytula thank you for the feedback because I'm thinking of getting a lizard and I just wanted to ask you so I don't get one and not know how to care for it the right way and have it die
This video motivated me indefinitely just got my chameleon and she’s the same exact way, I hope to get lulu the same as Rango one day, you earned my subscription 👍🏼
Honestly my stance on handling chameleons has changed drastically. Make sure at very least you give plenty of time for it to settle before you even try handling.
I would get another chameleon... I GOT MY NEW CHAMELEON TODAY!!! I'm so happy. I'm re watching all of your videos so I can take care of her and not mess up and do something wrong. I love her so much already and I've already given her a name{pascal} thank you so much for these videos!!
+Mike Tytula I'm really fascinated about Chameleons and was wondering if you could tell me a good cage/vivarium setup and what type of Chameleon would be best for a beginner
if I could get any animal. money and space wasn't a issue I would get both a Colombian Tegu. and a Cuban Rock iguana. but I'm huge on many animals and if money and space weren't a issue I would have a mini petting Zoo. I would give them all my time as well. ha
For people wondering, if you think you can handle a veiled or Jackson's Cham don't even try it. You could possibly handle a panther chameleon , even if they seem calm like this, they are very stressed out and stress to a chameleon can take years off their life because they think you're a predator. They don't understand. Please understand this video is false and mike was still learning in this period of his hobby. Chameleons are very very sensitive and as said before, stress can actually kill them, they're definitely a look but don't touch animal. DO NOT HANDLE THEM!!!
My lil guy Spinoza took an entire two years of hand feeding him for him for him to start coming to me at the front of the cage. Now I finally consider him "nice". He still hates when you wear hats.
I dont know but our chameleon he lets us hold him and he doesn’t do anything he loves resting on our hand. Thing is we’ve only had him for a couple days.
Also you need to ensure they have a large enough enclosure to relax. I have a Furcifer Pardalis. I think chameleons are in a different league to other reptiles and I have kept quite a few over the years.
Bro I got a baby veiled chameleon and named him Rango had him for about a month n a half now just picked him up 2 days ago! I made an Instagram of this homie @Theyounglifeofrango luv the lil homie
i'd get a panther chameleon, but first i'd need a lot of experience with chameleons in general witch i plan to do in the future, plus this video inspired me to get a veiled chameleon so i may have the experience to take care of more advanced chameleons like jacksons and such. so thank you Mike Tytula
If money and space weren't an issue, I would have a Blue-tongued Skink, and a pretty Boa morph. I haven't owned very many reptiles yet, so I guess my dreams aren't too extravagant haha.
Thanks I'll try to lower the temperature a little because he sometimes pants like a dog but I wasn't sure if he was sick or something thanks for your help!
My panther chameleon (zeppelin) loved me after I saved him when he was swinging on the top of the cage, now he loves me, eats out of my hand, and lets me take him out whenever. Unless he's sleeping and I try to show my friends late at night drunk, then he will hiss and bite lol
hi mike my veiled chameleons mated for the first time this afternoon......how many times should i put then together ?? Like should i put them together again in a couple of days?
All I can say is thank you mike my chameleon did not like me! But I watched this video and did everything you say and now my chameleon loves me!!! You are the best and I took insparstion from your chameleon kai cause that's what I named my chameleon!!!
I'd get a yellow ball python, a monitor, a crocodile skink and multiple chameleons and give them all their own individual cages within one big reptile room/ sanctuary! And that's my shortened list
Great video bro, I have a ball python and am moving to a veiled cham. I've been doing my research on them and your video has made a great influence on how I will handle my future baby. Thanks!
My long term goal is creating a massive paludarium which incorporates a dumerils monitor, aquatic prey and various insect species. By the way your videos are extremely clear and even your longer ones manage to be very concise and straight to the point. You have talent both in your hobby and in instructional presentations. I hope your parents are proud dude cause if you were my kid god knows i would be!!!
That's not a tamed chameleon at all, in fact, you can't even tame chameleons, you can only make them believe that you are just a tree branch or something, so they will freely climb on you without fear
