I use this tape job everyday on my left ankle for practices and games on my left ankle after I sprained it. I play vollyball and basketball and this tape job works great! This is the best tape job I have ever used. It supports and protects my ankle but I loosen where it needs to be loosened to fit my ankle. Thank you for posting this! I use it almost every day!
its just normal athletic tape that you can buy almost anywhere in the 'medical' section of stores. If they have band aids, they will have athletic tape. Its everywhere!
Hey, I'm a young athelete, there's not much awareness about this kind of stuff where I live, I've never had an ankle injury but i do put a lot of stress on them when I play, would you recommend using tape? Or anything else like tape?
@@whoooshme8898 id recommend u to use it if you feel just the slightest bit of pain or feel like you are putting to much stress on them / doing an exercise that could possibly be harmful for them, but dont use it all the time.i had a bad injury once and wore tape for like a year or more, so when i decided to not use it anymore my ankle was so used to the tape that it was very difficult.
hey man first of all thank you for this great video I have a lot of things I'm going to ask you after watching this! I do have a question though: can I do this using a sock and some duct tape temporarily till I get the products you have on your video? my ankles and my feet at work are getting banged up and I'm trying to keep them having a little more compression. I've been wearing two pairs of socks but I want to put a little tape around the ankle and that's the only thing I have right now on both ankles actually is that possible, meaning is there a safe way you can describe how to do it? Thank you very much!
CueTheAnxiety, when you get ready to tear the tape, place your thumbs close together at the edge of the tape, pull tension in opposite directions, then twist in opposite directions while holding the tape firmly. I prefer the 3M brands. They are more consistent.
Good n cheap tape is hard to tear, which looks like what he might be using. For my AT class, we had to make a “tape tower” to learn how to tape, so the key thing it’s to practice!!
Thank you for sharing your video. My foot was swelling and it hurts so bad, the pain is unbearable. I did this yesterday and it seems to have helped it today. I had even went to the doctor and she didn’t help me. Thank you so much! May God bless you!
Thanks for posting this! I sprain my ankles far too often and nobody i know of knows how to tape an ankle up properly for when i play soccer! Thanks again!
hi doctor I have pain in the heel of the foot, the doctor told me that I had lime in the heel of the foot, calcification .. I can't play sports ... I am in pain help me if you have what i can do to heal please Thank you in advance.. with my respects
i didn't mean to give a thumbs down.. not sure how to remove that??? sorry... fyi... old school rule of thumb is more tape that is properly fit "usually" means more rigidity... this is a classic "stirrup" wrap ... albeit tight:). trust me u want that side support...
Had this done every day for 8 seasons of practices and games. If you have hair in the area you may want to consider shaving. FYI a pair of surgical scissors is the best way to remove it after practice/games (based on my experience).
If I hurt my ankle at practice 6 hours ago and after keeping ice on it for 20 min on 20. Min off and it's still swelled and hurts just as bad should I just go to the hospital
You don't know much. I played Division I college football with both ankles taped like that every day before practice and games. He just demonstrated how every athletic trainer on the planet tapes an ankle.
I personally can't play with it! Usually trainers follow the same method but with less layers. Plus you play football, I play basketball. A lot more direction changes in basketball and less full speed sprints
Omar Khalil That's the point of taping: to constrict the movements in the area. I taped a girl today but she kept complaining it was too tight. Then the athletic trainer came in, heard her problem, and actually taped it even tighter than what I did.
Omar Khalil well if you do it correctly it wouldn't be a problem. You check to make sure theres still blood flow afterwards. The whole point of taping is to provide extra structural support through the tape. However mobility is sacrificed for stability.
Way to tight. After 5 mins of walking on that it was probably more painful than ever. You can't do anything with a taping that tight and thick, might as well just get a cast. Any realistic taping technique solution?
+munoz4104 not bad but you do not allow for your ankles to build up the strength it needs, if you just want extra light support i would suggest spat taping or just ankle spats you can get from your local sports store
Body is naturally clever and therefore lazy. It can stabilise the ankle with it's own ligaments and muscles. Give it external support and you will slowly lower your senso-motoric level of control = worse stability in long term prospective..:-) Passive stabilisation is always a double-edged weapon.
The stirrups pull into eversion for an inversion/lateral sprain. For eversion sprains, you want to pull the stirrups into neutral, meaning tension up on both sides. You never put the ankle into inversion when taping because of the strength of the medial ligaments compared to the lateral ligaments.
I personally can stand tight tape What I do is put on a sheer socks then I tap onto that but not tight Then I put a toweling athletic sock over thatIf I were to tape as tight as this it would cut my blood supply And that feels bad .
+Pamela Najar well tape is only super useful for the first twenty minutes after properly administered. So if your ankle hurts during practice, have your trainer or someone who knows how to tape ankles tape you up and help you. But when you get home take off the tape and ice your ankle
Kinda sloppy, watch the angles when he does the horseshoes & continuous figure8/heel locks and how forcing them creates the wrinkles. This wouldn't fly in my clinicals
Its not PRICE anymore. Now you treat with POLICE Protection Optimal Loading Ice Compression Elevation I think this taping is to much. You dont get any movement. Much better to use kinesiologi or even leukotaping just to stabilize the fibula...
At the end of the wrapping, you would do a capillary refill check, basically squeezing the toes a bit and seeing if they get pink quick to check blood flow. But I get where you're coming from.
Sean Webster hey sorry I meant for Osbaldo Fuentes to reply, I was kind of being snarky in that, I see it as a simple matter of taping looser if its cutting circulation. That being said, based on your comment I actualy did go out and purchace a pair of hi-tops, I can feel already how these will help although I have yet to try them out in an actual game :)
I am a certified trainer, I would advise not using pre wrap and going straight with some strong duct tape. Works better than athletic tape and is cheaper. Side effects may include loss of hair upon removal. Use with caution.
Daniel Ruíz Don't listen to this guy. It's Certified ATHLETIC Trainer, not Certified Trainer, first of all. Secondly, DO NOT use duct tape or super glue! He's just being an ass.
I'm a high school student, and even I know that the method he chose to employ is incorrect when it comes to taping ankles. All the things wrong with this video: 1. He didn't specify which ankle injury he was taping for. It's far more effective to tape according to one's injury, such as an inversion or an eversion, rather than haphazardly slap tape onto an athlete's ankle. 2. He didn't use lace pads or an adhesive spray. 3. He didn't cover the entire ankle with pre-wrap. 4. He dug the stirrups into the foot farther than necessary. 5. He didn't space the stirrups accordingly. Stirrups need to be placed about a thumb's width from the base of the heel. 6. He closed off the tape job going bottom to top. This is bad because when putting on a sock, the athlete will begin to pill the tape, creating more irritation throughout a practice or a game. thanks for coming to my TED talk :)
